Hiking @ Riding Mountain National Park + Wasagaming // Road Trip 2019
We saw 2 moose and a baby bear!! First time seeing both, really exciting and memorable. We also saw countless deer, and had our eyes peeled for an elk but didn't catch any. Riding Mountain National Park is really a great place to see wildlife, right from the road as you pull over and sit in your car. Really great!
The next morning, we took a short 9.2km hike, and then checked out Wasagaming. The hike was fairly uneventful but it only took 3 hours. Afterwards, Wasagaming was a real surprise. We've never seen a small town with restaurants and attractions for kids in a National Park before. The beach was full of families and people of all ages enjoying the sun on the Canada Day long weekend.
All in all, Riding Mountain was a great stop on our road trip! Now on to Saskatchewan!

Kicking off 3+ Months of Travelling in Canada & US // Road Trip 2019
Woooooooooooo!
Day 1 and 2 of our road trip! We are always excited to travel, but we are especially excited for this adventure. On the road, baby!!
Our goal is to spend $0 on accommodation for the next 3+ months. It sounds difficult, and it probably will be. We plan to camp on crown land -- publicly owned land that won't have proper campsites on it. It could be gas station parking lots, behind wal-marts, deep in the forest, boat launches, or truck stops. As long as it's free and legal, we are in! Some people call it boondocking. We call it roughin' it! Or road trippin'!
We intended to set up a tent every night, and inflate/deflate an air mattress. It turns out, this was a pretty silly idea. We got eaten alive by bugs on our first night, and also found some of these free campsites are more like parking spots. Uneven ground, bushes, wet, and rocky. So we re-vamped the back of our truck and built a bunk-bed type sleeping arrangement. It turned out pretty well!
We stayed around Killarney Provincial Park on our first night, and decided to head for Lake Superior Provincial Park on our second night. Of course, we won't be sleeping in the Provincial Parks -- rather the crown land that is nearby to the parks. We took a little detour into some small islands near Manitoulin Island for lunch, and arrived at our campsite around 8:00pm.
It's day 3 now as we edit and post this video -- and we are quickly realizing that finding a decent place to shower is going to be our next hurdle. Wet naps only do so much! We will figure it out.
In any case, plenty more videos to come!
Thanks for watching!
