Lake Tahoe Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia (4K)
Filled with over 39 trillion gallons of pure Sierra snowmelt and pushed a mile into the Californian and Nevada skies, Lake Tahoe is the USA’s largest alpine lake and one of the country’s oldest, year-round vacation playgrounds.
Lake Tahoe has forever drawn travellers to its shores, from the Native Americans who call this place Big Water, to the trappers, timber cutters and pioneers who followed.
When you’re ready for a little alpine magic, take the four-hour drive from San Francisco to the sunlit shores of Kings Beach. Set on Tahoe’s northern end, this beach was named after local card shark, Joe King, who used his winnings to develop some of the lake’s earliest lodgings. On the lake’s southern shore, is Pope Beach, where you’ll find another Tahoe institution, Camp Richardson.
From Pope Beach follow the bike path to the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. An open-air classroom for the entire family, the center features fabulous interpretative walks such as the Rainbow Trail.
Nearby, at DL Bliss State Park, follow the spectacular Rubicon Trail into neighboring Emerald Bay State Park. This park is home to the Eagle Falls Trail, a moderate two-mile hike that takes in some of the Sierra high country’s finest views.
When the ponderosa pines bend with the season’s first snow, Tahoe transforms into the nation’s favorite winter playground. Whether you’re looking for snow-capped peaks or crystal clear coves, places to bond with loved ones or pockets of pure solitude, The Lake in the Sky has it all.

Driving from NEW YORK to VERMONT through a breathtaking scenic route
New York is a state in the Northeastern United States. New York was one of the original thirteen colonies that formed the United States. With an estimated 19.54 million residents in 2018, it is the fourth most populous state. In order to distinguish the state from the city with the same name, it is sometimes referred to as New York State. The 27th largest U.S. state in land area, New York has diverse geography. The state is bordered by New Jersey and Pennsylvania to the south and Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont to the east. The state has a maritime border with Rhode Island, east of Long Island, as well as an international border with the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the north and Ontario to the northwest. The southern part of the state is in the Atlantic coastal plain and includes Long Island and several smaller associated islands, as well as New York City and the lower Hudson River Valley. The large Upstate New York region comprises several ranges of the wider Appalachian Mountains and the Adirondack Mountains in the Northeastern lobe of the state. Two major river valleys – the north-south Hudson River Valley and the east-west Mohawk River Valley – bisect these more mountainous regions. Western New York is considered part of the Great Lakes region and borders Lake Ontario, Lake Erie, and Niagara Falls. The central part of the state is dominated by the Finger Lakes, a popular vacation and tourist destination.
Vermont is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States. It borders the U.S. states of Massachusetts to the south, New Hampshire to the east, New York to the west, and the Canadian province of Quebec to the north. Vermont is the second-smallest by population and the sixth-smallest by area of the 50 U.S. states. The state capital is Montpelier, the least populous state capital in the United States. The most populous city, Burlington, is the least populous city to be the most populous city in a state. As of 2015, Vermont was the leading producer of maple syrup in the United States. In crime statistics, it was ranked as the safest state in the country in 2016.
Crossing USA Canada Border by Greyhound
Going through customs Canada to USA by Greyhound
The bus stops on Canada side.
You have to take everything with you: all coats, sweaters, books, carry-ons etc.
The bus has to be completely clear when it gets inspected.
While you are inside the customs office someone comes on the bus and inspects it, I saw one guy leave a small bag in one of the compartments. He ended up being taken to the side and questioned about why he did that.
So, the bus stops you get off, take all belongings with you, they unload your luggage at the side, and you take that with you too, inside to the gates.
You have a declaration form that you've already filled out, which they want to see, along with ID, Passports etc.
And they will ask you a few questions. You put your bag up to go through a scanner of some sort. (they dont help with this)
They may do a random check of luggage, and they send you back to a secondary gate for more questions, it depends on the customs agent that first questions you.
So after you do that, you keep walking, through this door to this waiting room, and you are now officially in the United States now.
You walk outside and the bus is still in the same spot as when you got off the bus, so it is still in the Canada across the border.
So you cant walk back and get on, cause now you are in America and the bus is still in Canada.
Once it has been cleared and inspected, it will move forward a few feet and be in the USA too.
The luggage is loaded back up again, and your good to go again. I think most of the passengers actually loaded their luggage back onto the bus, the bottom compartments. there were no additional greyhound attendants to help the driver.
so once you're all done waiting for the few people who always manage to take longer than everyone else, your good to go. (minus the people who were held back for any reason)
