I'm a South African vlogger currently living in Wild Wild Somerset West, but I've kinda stayed all over the place - from Cape Town, Betty's Bay, Villiersdorp and even ... ehem...Kuilsriver. i'm not sure what the end game will be from this vlog. Right now I'm really just having fun recording and capturing parts of my day to day life. I find the editing process fun, challenging and massively rewarding.

VLOG TROUT FISHING DU KLOOF LODGE

We headed out for the day to Du Kloof Lodge for some trout fishing, it's about a 1 hour drive from Cape Town with a very scenic route. It was my first time fishing there and was quite fun. You allowed to fish between 3 dams on the premises, the larger dam at the bottom is the most difficult, as we struggled to catch anything other than getting our bait taken off, but there were most probably some big fish in there. We managed 3 trout for the day, I caught 2 small trout and 1 decent size trout was caught by Mohammed. The place is situated on a trout farm and charges an entry fee of R 80.00 per person. There's a no catch and release policy, so anything you catch you keep, which is charged at R 175.00 per kg. We ended up paying R 300.00 for the fish we caught, they gill and gut your catch on site at no extra fee, so it was worth it for the experience. I would definitely do it again and next time try my luck to catch a 20 inch trout!

Fire fighting continues near Prince Albert, Karoo

Fire fighting efforts have been intensIfied in an attempt to contain a massive veld fire raging for a week, near Prince Albert in the Karoo.
Two helicopters have now joined ground crews to contain the blaze.
The Prince Albert fire brigade, assisted by various teams including Cape Nature and Working on Fire are also assisting - with help too from local farmers.

Clearing of invasive alien plants begins in valley

In early November WESSA began a month-long IAP clearing project in the Baakens Valley. In partnership with the NMBM and funded by Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, WESSA is employing 16 Walmer township youths to conduct follow-up clearing of the sites cleared in the Lower Valley in 2013 and 2014. WESSA supervisor Luthando Gxowa conducted the training of these youths yesterday, most of whom were recruited from the youth interns that the Wildlands Trust had trained in the Valley last year, conducting trail maintenance. In this way, WESSA is giving these youngsters the opportunity to capitalise on the skills that they have previously gained.

Avro Shackleton

The Avro Shackleton was a British long-range maritime patrol aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and the South African Air Force. It was developed by Avro from the Avro Lincoln bomber, itself being a development of the famous wartime Avro Lancaster bomber. It was replaced by Nimrod maritime patrol aircraft in the 1970s. The aircraft was also adapted for airborne early warning roles within the RAF, replaced by the Boeing E-3 Sentry in 1990. The type is named after the polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton.
Entering service with the RAF in 1951, the Shackleton was used primarily in the anti-submarine warfare and maritime patrol aircraft roles; it also became used as a search and rescue platform and for performing several other secondary roles such as being a troop-transport. In later life, a small number of the RAF's Shackletons were subsequently adapted for airborne early warning duties, performing in this capacity until the type's retirement in 1991. The Shackleton was also procured by South Africa, and was operated by the SAAF between 1957 and 1984.
