Yesan is a county in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. Famous people from Yesan include independence fighter Yoon Bong-Gil. Sudeoksa, a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, is located on the southern slopes of Deoksungsan in Deoksan-myeon, Yesan County. Its main hall is daeungjeon , Korea's oldest wooden building and National Treasure 49. In 2009, Yesan was designated a slow city, one in which traditional cultures and communities are preserved.

  • 3. Haemieupseong Fortress Seosan
    Haemieup-seong is a fortress located in Haemi-eup near Seosan, South Chungcheong Province in South Korea. Haemi Castle was built between the 17th year of the reign of King Taejong and the 3rd year of Sejong the Great's reign in 1421 during the Joseon period. The fortress was completed in the 22nd year of the reign of King Seongjong. On January 1963, it was listed as South Korea's Historical Site No. 116 and was renovated in 1973. The castle was the background of the Donghak Rebellion in 1864. This fortress, originally built to protect against Japanese pirates, was a historical site where thousands of Catholics were executed during the French Invasion in 1866.

Its main hall is South Korea's oldest wooden building, having been constructed by Goryeo in 1308. This Mahavira Hall is National Treasures of South Korea 49.

    Gim Jeong-hui , also known as Kim Jeong-hui, was one of the most celebrated practitioners of calligraphy, epigraphists, and scholars of Korea’s later Joseon period. He was a member of the Gim clan of Gyeongju. He used various Ho : Wandang , Chusa , Yedang , Siam , Gwapa , Nogwa etc. . He is especially celebrated for having transformed Korean epigraphy and for having created the “Chusa-che” inspired by his study of ancient Korean and Chinese epitaphs. His ink paintings, especially of orchids, are equally admired. As a scholar, he belonged to the Silhak school also known as the Bukhak . He was related to Queen Jeongsun, the second wife of King Yeongjo, and by his adoptive mother, Nam Yang-hong, he was a cousin to Namyeon-gun Yi Gu, who was destined to be the grandfather of King Gojong ...
