Japan culture
Hanami
Hanami (花見, flower viewing) is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the transient beauty of flowers; flowers (hana) are in this case almost always referring to those of the cherry (sakura) or, less frequently, plum (ume) trees.
The Japanese people continue the tradition of hanami, gathering in great numbers wherever the flowering trees are found. Thousands of people fill the parks to hold feasts under the flowering trees, and sometimes these parties go on until late at night. In more than half of Japan, the cherry blossoming days come at the same time as the beginning of school and work after vacation, and so welcoming parties are often opened with hanami. Usually, people go to the parks to keep the best places to celebrate hanami with friends, family, and company co-workers many hours or even days before. In cities like Tokyo, it is also common to have celebrations under the sakura at night. Hanami at night is called yozakura (夜桜, night sakura).

WHY JAPANESE FESTIVAL ARE THE BEST | CHIBA | 千葉祭り| 親子三代 | BON ODORI
Chiba grand summer festival held at Chiba Shi Central Park last August 19, 2018. Japanese street dance were performed from different barangay of Chiba. Different kinds of Japanese food were sold in the area, you can also enjoy alcoholic drinks. Despite the amount of alcohol being consumed, the atmosphere feels safe and friendly (especially compared to some western festivals) as families with young children cheerfully mix with old couples and young drinkers.

Uchikuroda Hadaka Mairi - Japanese Naked Shinto Pilgrimage in Boxers 裸参り
Hadaka Mairi is a naked pilgrimage done to shrines where men wear very little clothing as they visit a shrine in winter or in early spring while splashed with water in order to get stronger blessings to pray for the health and the upcoming harvests of the community. These pilgrimages have their roots in shugendo - severe Shinto and Buddhist spiritual training
Uchikuroda Hadaka Mairi is a centuries old small festival in Yotsukaido, Chiba Prefecture where a group of men (habaka bo) wearing only white boxers run back forth from the torii gate to the shrine building (Haiden) to toss straw inside to pray for good harvests.
Japanese Mud Wrestling Festival
Earlier in 2009 I revisited the mudslinging festival I attended 2 years ago. This time I got some interviews (well one at least) and learned a little more about the Hadaka Matsuri - Naked Festival.
In Yotsukaido in Chiba in Eastern Japan, a planting festival is held in early February where nigh naked men clad in loincloths known as fundoshi go down to a cold muddy pond and wrestle in the mud. The festival is to ensure health and wealth of the community and rice crops.
Music by the Exotic Ones (and no it's not really a country song or a country band by a long shot)
