Getting up close to Block 4 the reactor that exploded on the night of 26th April 1986. Walking in the abandoned towns of ZALISSYA, KOPACHI and of course the workers town Pripyat.
We take in lunch at the power stations canteen along with the workers still decommissioning the reactors, and investigate the DUGA radar system a relic from the cold war.

In Pripjat bevinden er zich 5 lagere scholen, in deze video gaan we er eentje van die vijf bezoeken.
Elke lagere school had vroeger gasmaskers in de kelder of op de zolder liggen. Deze waren bedoeld ter bescherming tegen eventuele chemische aanvallen.
Op de dag van vandaag liggen er zo'n 100tal maskers verspreid over de vloer... Plunderaars hebben alle kleine metalen deeltjes uit de gasmaskers gehaald....

Pripjat was een stadje waar 49600 mensen woonden.
Het was 8 vierkante KM groot en was slechts 5 KM verwijderd van de Tsjernobyl kerncentrale. In deze video zien jullie ook beelden van de evacuatie 32 jaar geleden. ondertiteld in het Nederlands.
We klommen naar het hoogste gebouw van Pripjat om daar shots te gaan maken!

27th April 2017 - Chernobyl
Today we take a trip out of Kyiv and enter the Exclusion Zone, home to such towns as Chernobyl and Pripyat. This is highly restricted area than can only be visited with government permission. Such permissions have been granted to authorised tour companies. A valid passport is also needed for entry.
The exclusion zone has a circumference of around 30km with an inner zone of around 10km. There are actually 120 people who permanently reside in the outer zone. Radiation levels in this zone are reasonably safe. There are shift workers who also work in Chernobyl.
The town of Pripyat is the most desolate of all those in the Exclusion Zone. Only tourists, police and soldiers visit there. Pripyat consists of empty schools, hotels, shopping centres, a fair ground and an unfinished stadium. In just 31 years the city has been over run by nature having been left to the elements.
As difficult as it was getting to Kyiv and arranging to join this tour it is certainly one of the most interesting I have ever been on.

02. Driving in Kopachi, the buried village in the Chernobyl exclusion zone
In this video we drive through Kopachi which is a few km from Chernobyl town in the exclusion zone. Kopachi was heavily contaminated and therefore it was evacuated by the authorities. As an experiment, had all the houses torn down and buried. This village was the only village suffering this fate as a result of the Chernobyl disaster.
The only traces left of the village today is a series of mounds and a small number of surviving trees which are not part of the local native flora. Each mound contains the remains of one house and is topped by a sign with the international radiation symbol. At the end of the video you can see one of this mounds.

En este video conduciomos a través Kopachi que está a pocos kilómetros de la ciudad de Chernobyl en la zona de exclusión. Kopachi estaba muy contaminado, por lo que fue evacuado por las autoridades. Como experimento, todas las casas fueron derribadas y enterradas.
Este pueblo fue el único pueblo que sufrió este destino como consecuencia de la catástrofe de Chernobyl.
Las únicas huellas del pueblo hoy, son una serie de montículos y un pequeño número de árboles que no forman parte de la flora nativa local. Cada montículo contiene los restos de una casa y está coronado por un cartel con el símbolo internacional de la radiación. Al final del vídeo se puede ver uno de estos curiosos montículos.
