Zaros is a village and a former municipality in the Heraklion regional unit, Crete, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Faistos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 71.803 km2 . Population 2,953 . Zaros village, at an altitude of 340 metres, is a village with a lake and gorge nearby. Vrontisi Monastery is a 14th-century Eastern Orthodox monastery situated between the villages of Zaros and Vorizia of the Heraklion regional unit in south-central Crete, Greece. The monastery is roughly 50 km southwest of Heraklion and is built at an altitude of 550 m on the south slopes of Mt. Ida, having a panoramic view of the Mesara Plain and the Asterousia Mountains. The origin of its name is not clear; according to the prevailing explanation it was named after its founder whose surname was Vrontisis.

Lake Kournas is a lake on the island of Crete, Greece, near the village of Kournas. It is in the Apokoronas municipality of Chania regional unit close to the border with Rethymno regional unit, 47 km from the town of Chania. Kournas is a fairly large village perched on a hill overlooking the lake. Crete's only freshwater lake, Lake Kournas, is relatively large, with a perimeter of 3.5 km. Although almost all touristic leaflets say that it is possible to walk around the lake, that is not true. At least not at the end of the rain season . Wir fahren zum Eingang der Rouvas-Schlucht,
In Ano Zaros haben wir uns verzettelt und haben eine ganze Stunde gebraucht, um die Richtung Gergeri zu finden. Die Außenspiegel mußten zeitweise eingeklappt werden, so eng war es da. Aber dann erreichten wir doch unser Ziel, aber die Weiterfahrt nach Anogia fiel aus.
