EDEN 2011 Żyrardów (Poland)
Old City Hall, Toruń, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Poland, Europe
Toruń is an ancient city in northern Poland, on the Vistula River. Its population is 205,934 as of June 2009. Toruń is one of the oldest cities in Poland. The medieval old town of Toruń is the birthplace of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. In 1997 the medieval part of the city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2007 the Old Town in Toruń was added to the list of Seven Wonders of Poland. National Geographic Polska rated the old town market and the Gothic town hall as one of the 30 Most Beautiful Places in the World. In 2010 Forbes magazine ranked Toruń as number one of the Polish Cities Attractive for Business. In 2009 it was listed as one of the Best Cities to Live in Poland, in a ranking published by Przekrój. Previously it was the capital of the Toruń Voivodeship (1975-98) and the Pomeranian Voivodeship (1921-45). Since 1999, Toruń has been a seat of the self-government of the Kujawy-Pomerania Province and, as such, is one of its two capitals (together with Bydgoszcz). The cities and neighboring counties form the Bydgoszcz-Toruń twin city metropolitan area. In September 2004, Bydgoszcz Medical School joined Toruń's Nicolaus Copernicus University as its Collegium Medicum. The current Mayor of Toruń is Mr. Michał Zaleski. Toruń has two drama theatres (Teatr im. Wilama Horzycy with three stages and Teatr Wiczy), two children's theatres (Baj Pomorski and Zaczarowany Świat), two music theatres (Mała Rewia, Studencki Teatr Tańca), and numerous other theatre groups. The city hosts, among others events, the international theatre festival, Kontakt, annually in May A building called Baj Pomorski has recently been completely reconstructed. It is now one of the most modern cultural facilities in the city, with its front elevation in the shape of a gigantic chest of drawers. It is located at the south-east edge of the Old Town. Toruń has a number of cinemas including a Cinema City, which has over 2,000 seats. Over ten major museums document the history of Toruń and the region. Among others, the House of Kopernik and the accompanying museum commemorate Nicolaus Copernicus and his revolutionary work, the university museum reveals the history of the city's academic past. The Centre of Contemporary Art (Centrum Sztuki Współczesnej - CSW) opened in June 2008 and is one of the most important cultural facilities of this kind in Poland. The modern building is located in the very centre of the city, adjacent to the Old Town. The Toruń Symphonic Orchestra (formerly the Toruń Chamber Orchestra) is well-rooted in the Toruń cultural landscape. Toruń is equipped with a planetarium (located downtown) and an astronomical observatory (located in nearby community of Piwnice). The latter boasts the largest radio telescope in the Eastern part of Central Europe with a diameter of 32 m (104.99 ft), second only to the Effelsberg 100 m (328.08 ft) radio telescope. Toruń is well known for Toruń gingerbread, a type of pierniki often made in elaborate moulds. Muzeum Piernika in Toruń is the only museum dedicated to gingerbread in Europe.
Travel Update: Busy Schedule in August + Future Travel Plans
It has been ages since we've sat down and updated you about our travel plans for recent places that we've visited and what we'll be doing on later in the year, so we finally sit down to do that in this travel update vlog from our apartment in Kiev, Ukraine.
August was a busy month as we said goodbye to Poland and headed over to Düsseldorf, Germany for a travel project with a client. Fortunately, we were able to get enough shots for us to make our own little city guide to Düsseldorf so stayed tuned for that soon.
After Düsseldorf we were off to London where we caught up with some friends, attended a few events and did some day-trips to Oxford and Cambridge. However, along the way we both got really sick with on and off symptoms that lingered well over a week for both of us.
After London it was off to Wales for the first time where we stayed in a cool AirBNB in Cardiff mostly watching Netflix as we recovered. Fortunately, we did get out enough to film a Cardiff travel guide and a few food vlogs which will be coming out next.
After Cardiff we said goodbye to each other for a week as Audrey returned to London and I went to Northern Ireland to work on a 24 hours travel campain.
We reunited in Glasgow, Scotland where we spent a few days in the city before heading off on a road trip to Dunoon for the Highland Games.
After that we flew to Kiev, Ukraine where we'll be on our own schedule now for a few weeks. We've very happy to be just doing our own thing now for a bit.
Later on in September we have a conference to Attend in Austria with maybe a bit more travel planned in the country after that. The rest of the year is up in the air but we're leaning strongly towards doing a big Balkans trip. Does that sound like a good idea? Would you suggest we go elsewhere? Let us know in the comments below.

Travel Update: Busy Schedule in August + Future Travel Plans video script:
Well hello hello from our apartment in Kiev. I feel like it is time for an update because on our channel we just finished showing you guys videos from Poland and then all of a sudden we were in London and it is just a little bit chaotic. I feel like we need to tie all of these strings together. Yeah. Is that an expression?
Absolutely. We've kind of just been all over the place. We've had a super busy schedule and we've been doing all kinds of different things. So we just want to let you know what we've been up to.
Alright, so let's rewind. After we finished in Poland we flew to Germany. No we didn't we took the train.
Anyways, we were in Düsseldorf for a project which was really cool. Yeah, so we were actually filming for a client but we managed to get some footage that we're going to show you guys.
So we have a little guide coming out for Düsseldorf. We were only there for like 4 days but we did a lot.
So then from there we flew into London. We were there for roughly a week.
So we've already done England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and we hit Wales. We hit Wales. All 4.
Wales was awesome. We were probably if we had of been a little healthier we probably would have done more day trips but we just kind of had to focus on Cardiff so we'll have a guide and I think we have a couple of food videos coming out from there.
Um, so we said goodbye to each other because you went back to London to do something. To do a project. Yeah. I went to Northern Ireland.
We didn't get a lot of sleep and a week later we met up again in Scotland. In Glasgow.
We went to the Cowal Highland Gathering in Dunoon. for the highland games.
It is so cool to be here in the Ukraine, a new country.
We're going to be in Kiev for just over a week and then after that we are going to the city of Lviv.
And after the Ukraine we know that we are going to uh a conference in Austria and maybe after finally to the Balkans.
I think that is most likely how we're going to end off our year here in Europe. If you guys have any suggestions like places that you think we should visit or anything like that it would be awesome if you let us know.
Alright, well that is it for today. See ya later!
This is part of our Travel in Poland, Germany, United Kingdom (Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland) and Ukraine video series.

Towards Zyrardów
The journey towards Zyrardów on the Warsaw outer ring road.
The W204-series C-class has been on sale since the beginning of 2008. It has a very nice six-speed manual gearbox or the optional 7G-Tronic seven-speed auto.
This version is a sport model with a huge Mercedes badge in the centre of the grille, as in some of the 190 series so beloved by me.
Sitting in the driving seat you have everything where you want it but there are a couple of faults from the point of view of vision. Between 80kmph and 140kmpgh I could not see what speed I was going at without moving my body because the indicator needle is so small. Also I cannot see if the lights are on because the indicator is on the light switch which is hidden by the steering wheel.
The steering response is very keen and suspension excellent with the AMG sports package. I have heard comments to the contrary that the ride can be hard but that was not my experience and I was driving it over some pretty poor roads as can be seen in the film. No doubt the suspension is even better without the AMG sports package. Of course the firm seats Mercedes provides help also.
I did not try crashing it but the last-generation C scored a five-star result in the Euro NCAP crash tests, and this one should do the same. It's comprehensively equipped with all the latest technology to protect its occupants in the event of an impact. Somehow one does not feel vulnerable with all the electronic toys including stability control, trailer stabilisation, tyre pressure monitoring and emergency braking lights not to mention seven airbags and a structure that just feels. a Mercedes!!
This model comes in at around EUR30,000 and no doubt much more in the UK! So it is not cheap. But you know that you have something that will last twenty years if it comes to that. Or a good resale value in a few years if it does not.
The car returns around eight litres to 100km in mixed driving. Here I am on the snow so the gear is lower than it would be normally. Maybe in the summer it is better!
There is 1,500 litres of space with the rear seats down or 485 with them up and the tailgate is powered! However Mercedes made an error here the back of the seats fall onto the base and so they are not quite flat unless some great weight is upon them. Why could not they have put it slide and drop seats thus giving that little bit extra room and a flat floor for our luggage? (Or in my case piles of magazines.)
This is the best car I have ever driven. Some small points so it does not quite make ten out of ten but it comes close.
My channel is one of the most prolific from Poland, although not amongst the most visited. With almost one film per day, one may be forgiven for thinking I do nothing else but I do have a day job as well. I have produced around 1,000 original films, most in English but also in Polish, French, Italian, Spanish and the occasional hint of German and Hebrew. My big interest in life is travel and history but I have also placed films on other subjects
Please feel free to ask questions in the public area or to comment on things you disagree with. Sometimes there are mistakes because I speak without preparation. If I see the mistakes myself, I make this clear in the text. Please also leave a star rating!
There are a number of films here on the packaging industry. This is because I am the publisher of Central and Eastern European Packaging -- - the international platform for the packaging industry in this region focusing on the latest innovations, trends, design, branding, legislation and environmental issues with in-depth profiles of major industry achievers.
Most people may think packaging pretty boring but it possibly effects your life more than you really imagine!
Central and Eastern European Packaging examines the packaging industry throughout this region, but in particular in the largest regional economies which are Russia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Ukraine and Austria. That is not to say that the other countries are forgotten, they are not, but obviously there is less going on. However the fact that there are so many travel related films here is not from holidays but from business trips attending trade fairs around the region. Every packaging trade fair is a new excuse to make another film!
In 1997 I founded Polish Business News .There are a number of business related films here and I intend to do many more on CRM (customer relations management).
My blog can be found via and and contains background information and more details of many of my films. This information is in English.
