Savages & Princesses: The Persistence of Native American Stereotypes
Savages and Princesses: The Persistence of Native American Stereotypes
August 5 – September 25, 2016
Curated by America Meredith, Savages and Princesses brings together sixteen contemporary Native American visual artists from Oklahoma who reclaim their right to represent their own reality as Native Americans. Whether using humor, subtlety, or irony, the telling is always fiercely honest and dead-on. Images and styles are created from traditional, contemporary, and mass culture forms.
This work represents an ongoing visual lexicon created by Native artists. It is intended to counteract the disappearance of Native portrayals. It embraces their power to replace stereotypical images created by others that permeate the current pop culture landscape.
This exhibition was made possible with funding from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

The historic home at 325 NW 15th St is a place of eternal delight. It was originally built for DW Hogan, the Chairman of City National Bank in 1913. It can (and has) gone from the host site for a sit-down dinner for 90 people honoring a Nobel Prize winner, to the intimate site where a few friends gather in the bar in front of a fire to talk and enjoy a libation, from a venue for a reception for Supreme Court justices or the governor, to the place where family and friends gather in the spacious dining room for holiday feasts. The warmth of time-tempered wood brings a feeling of warmth to large, airy rooms. Large expanses of wall allow for display of art collections. The house is large, but with 18 thick solid masonry walls it has withstood all tests and is a frugal user of energy. The house was the winner of the 1996 Fine Home Award and the 2011 Special Fine Home Award, both awarded by Historical Preservation, Inc. for the complete house renovation and subsequent care. Almost all rooms consist of plaster on lathe walls with stretched canvas that is original. Eleven foot ceilings with picture molding and other craftwork give the feeling of being in a palace. A new owner will be given the original blueprints for the house and the plates denoting the awards.
Heritage Hills is the name of the first district within the State of Oklahoma to be designated by local ordinance as an area of historical significance. Since this designation, renovation and restoration activities in the area have increased markedly.
During the period shortly after the turn of the century when Oklahoma City was a small prairie town of some 25,000 inhabitants, many of the leaders and future leaders of Oklahoma City chose this area to build their homes and to raise their families. The building and development of this area continued until about 1930. An early roster of the residents of this area contained the names of the city's leading bankers, merchants, builders, doctors, lawyers and civic leaders.
In addition to parks and boulevards, other major landscape features are readily identifiable. Rows of tall elm and other trees line many streets. The Heritage Hills Historic District is one of only a few neighborhoods in Oklahoma City which has sidewalks. The district is marked by distinctive street signs that are emblazoned with the seal of Historic Preservation, Inc., the private, non-profit preservation association organized by the homeowners of Heritage Hills.
There are 362 residences in the Heritage Hills Historic District, 97% of which were constructed by 1930. The Heritage Hills Historical and Architectural District has possibly the finest and most architecturally diverse group of buildings of any neighborhood area in Oklahoma City.
Most of the early construction in the Heritage Hills Historic District was concentrated in Classen Highland Parked Addition and West Highland Addition. These Additions were almost completely developed by 1920.
Today, Heritage Hills is still home to city leaders and young families alike just as it was 100 years ago. The tree-lined sidewalks and irreplaceable historic spaces offer a quality of life that only comes with age and history. The pioneer spirit continues - with an integral social community and strong alliances beyond its borders. While it embraces the practicality and progress offered by modern life, it continues to battle against the forces that would dissolve its character.
Total Livable Square Footage includes: basement and guest apartment.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
The Consolidated B-24 Liberator is an American heavy bomber, designed by Consolidated Aircraft of San Diego, California. It was known within the company as the Model 32, and some initial production aircraft were laid down as export models designated as various LB-30s, in the Land Bomber design category.
At its inception, the B-24 was a modern design featuring a highly efficient shoulder-mounted, high aspect ratio Davis wing. The wing gave the Liberator a high cruise speed, long range and the ability to carry a heavy bomb load. Early RAF Liberators were the first aircraft to cross the Atlantic Ocean as a matter of routine. In comparison with its contemporaries, the B-24 was relatively difficult to fly and had poor low-speed performance; it also had a lower ceiling and was less robust than the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. While aircrews tended to prefer the B-17, General Staff favored the B-24 and procured it in huge numbers for a wide variety of roles. At approximately 18,500 units – including over 4,600 manufactured by Ford Motor Company – it holds records as the world's most produced bomber, heavy bomber, multi-engine aircraft, and American military aircraft in history.
The B-24 was used extensively in World War II. It served in every branch of the American armed forces as well as several Allied air forces and navies. It saw use in every theater of operations. Along with the B-17, the B-24 was the mainstay of the US strategic bombing campaign in the Western European theater. Due to its range, it proved useful in bombing operations in the Pacific, including the bombing of Japan. Long-range anti-submarine Liberators played an instrumental role in closing the Mid-Atlantic gap in the Battle of the Atlantic. The C-87 transport derivative served as a longer range, higher capacity counterpart to the Douglas C-47 Skytrain.
By the end of World War II, the technological breakthroughs of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress and other modern types had surpassed the bombers that served from the start of the war. The B-24 was rapidly phased out of U.S. service, although the PB4Y-2 Privateer maritime patrol derivative carried on in service with the U.S. Navy in the Korean War.
