1933 Shanghai, or Old Millfun, is a historic piece of architecture that has combines unique aspects of Chinese and western designs. What used to be a slaughterhouse, is now a beautiful shopping center that blends classic and modern styles.

Shanghai 1933 Old Millfun is an imposing building in the historic Hongkou district of Shanghai. It opened in 1933 and was the city's municipal slaughterhouse. Although it is described architecturally as Art Deco, it is far more Brutalist in feel, constructed as it is from raw concrete.

Located in the historic Hongkou District, 1933 Shanghai (上海1933老场坊) was built amidst the vibrant urban landscape of pre-communist Shanghai. Designed originally by British architects, and built in 1933 by Chinese developers, the building was originally intended for use as a slaughterhouse but served a number of purposes over the years from medicine factory, cold storage facility, to its current incarnation as a ‘commercial hub for creative industries’.
