Shopping Inside Walmart - Fort Myers Beach, Florida
Walmart Supercenters, branded as simply Walmart, are hypermarkets with sizes varying from 69,000 to 260,000 square feet (6,400 to 24,200 square metres), but averaging about 178,000 square feet (16,500 square metres).[73] These stock general merchandise and a full-service supermarket, including meat and poultry, baked goods, delicatessen, frozen foods, dairy products, garden produce, and fresh seafood. Many Walmart Supercenters also have a garden center, pet shop, pharmacy, Tire & Lube Express, optical center, one-hour photo processing lab, portrait studio, and numerous alcove shops, such as cellular phone stores, hair and nail salons, video rental stores, local bank branches (newer locations have Woodforest National Bank branches), and fast food outlets, usually Subway but sometimes Dunkin' Donuts, McDonald's, Wendy's, Checker's, Auntie Annes, Burger King, Tim Horton's or Blimpie. Many featured McDonald's stores, but in 2007, Walmart announced it would stop opening McDonald's restaurants at most of their newer stores. Most locations that opened up after the announcement had Subway as their restaurant, and some McDonald's inside the stores were replaced with Subway.[76] In some Canadian locations a Tim Horton's was opened. Some[clarification needed] also sell gasoline distributed by Murphy USA (which spun off form Murphy Oil in 2013), Sunoco, Inc. (Optima), Tesoro Corporation (Mirastar), USA Gasoline, and even now Walmart-branded gas stations.[77]
The first Supercenter opened in 1988, in Washington, Missouri. A similar concept, Hypermart USA, had opened in Garland, Texas, a year earlier. All Hypermart USA stores were later closed or converted into Supercenters.
As of March 31, 2016, there were 3,470 Walmart Supercenters in 49 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.[78] Hawaii is the only state without a Supercenter. The largest Supercenter in the United States, covering 260,000 square feet (24,000 square metres) on two floors, is located in Crossgates Commons in Albany, New York.[79] In 2006, the busiest in the world was the one in Rapid City, South Dakota.
The Supercenter portion of the name has since been phased out, with these stores now simply referred to as Walmart, since the company introduced the new Walmart logo in 2008. The Supercentre name is still used in Canada, where the company opened its 100th Canadian store in 2010,[80] some of them former Sam's Club locations.
Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 31, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
A crucial vote is anticipated Jan. 31 on whether to call witnesses in the Trump impeachment trial, including former national security adviser John Bolton. In a manuscript of his new book, Bolton reportedly says that Trump directly tied the holdup of nearly $400 million in military assistance to Ukraine to investigations of the Bidens.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

Kissimmee Tornado Outbreak - February 22 - 23, 1998
The Kissimmee Tornado Outbreak of February 22 - 23, 1998, was the deadliest tornado event in Florida history. Forty-two people were killed and 260 were injured; seven tornadoes were involved in the event. The previous record for the highest tornado death toll in Florida history was 17 on March 31, 1962.
The first tornado of the outbreak came at around 11:40 pm in Lake County, Florida. Three were killed in this tornado. The most notable tornado of the night was an F3 that hit in Kissimmee, where twenty five were killed. Another F3 hit in Seminole County, Florida, near Sanford and Volusia County, Florida, killing 13. The last tornado of the night hit in Brevard County, Florida.
The tornadoes were strong due to an abnormally strong jet stream with warm, humid air out ahead of the cold front. This is common in the El Niño phase of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) during the Florida dry season (November 1 - April 30) During EL Nino the jet stream is typically stronger and further south near or over Florida in the winter and spring. This greatly increases the odds that conditions will be favorable for strong tornado development. The controversy surrounding this outbreak resulted from attempts to try to correlate specific tornadoes with El Nino. There are a number of reasons why a tornado may or may not occur, or be reported, that have nothing to do with Pacific SSTs. A better approach is to focus on the development of atmospheric conditions that might produce tornadoes and severe weather. A novel approach to enhancing El Nino preparedness in Florida is to concentrate on Storminess or the increase in extratropical cyclones effecting Florida that might spawn severe weather in El Nino dry seasons. An experimental forecast of Florida storminess based on Pacific SST's has been developed. Studies that look at yearly tornado reports and Pacific SST's show no relationship between El Niño and United States tornado activity and a weak relationship for Florida.

Well surprisingly enough, for as odd of a match as it might seem, it kind of makes sense. Disney and Mattel actually have a relationship that goes way back. In fact, it goes all the way back to 1955, the same year Disneyland opened. Mattel was one of the first corporate sponsors for the original run of Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club which aired on ABC. However beyond just the normal sponsorship arrangement of accepting Mattel’s money in return for advertising time on the show, Disney also licensed out some of its rights to Mattel for Disney branded toys. It was a partnership that would prove mutually lucrative.
Fast forward thirty-six years and that partnership was still around.
The idea was to create a half hour stage show that celebrated Barbie and her legacy. It was called The Magical World of Barbie, and in all honesty if was set in Disney-MGM Studios it probably wouldn’t seem that out of place. Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Muppets, Ninja Turtles. None of them were owned by Disney and yet they all had a presence in the parks. In that sense, Barbie would have fit right in. But… #Epcot? It just didn’t really match. Well, as it turns out, that’s exactly why they put it there.
During that same time in the early 1990s, Disney was facing a problem: attendance at Epcot was on the decline. So Disney decided to try and win over new and younger audiences.
In an attempt to make the concept work, the show would be centered around the idea that Barbie had made all these friends all around the world over her 35 years, so it would only be natural that the show take place in World Showcase. Disney didn’t take the task lightly. They would end up holding auditions in six cities across the United States in search for the perfect actress to portray Barbie. As Disney’s casting director, Ron Rodriguez, would put it: “You can’t be flippant about the treatment of this character. This is Mattel’s Mickey Mouse.” After weeks on the road and after seeing over one thousand potential Barbies and Kens, Disney returned home empty handed. But as luck would have it, the casting team would tune into that year’s Miss America pageant, where they would find their perfect Barbie in third runner-up and Miss Oregon, Elizabeth Simmons.
The show itself was, well, pretty much what you’d expect a Barbie themed stage show to be. It had its target audience and it did well enough that it was performed throughout 1994. However it wasn’t creating the desired effect of getting audiences hyped up for World Showcase.
So in the spring of 1995 Disney and Mattel would announce that The Magical World of #Barbie would be ending on May 11th, just seven months short of the initial two-year plan. There was some talk of Disney and Mattel working to bring the show to another park, but nothing would really come of it.
GREYHOUND RACING.mp4
From the American Greyhound Council: Greyhound racing is a highly regulated sport. State and local regulators often have offices right at the track to ensure thorough oversight and quick enforcement action when needed. Each track has its own veterinarian to check the health of the racers and provide prompt treatment in case of illness or injury. Injury rates in greyhound racing are extremely low. Less than half of one percent of all racing starts produce an injury.
Wal-Mart 'urgent' Memo Urges Improvement at U.S. Stores: NYT
Wal-Mart stores issued an urgent agenda memo to its store managers across the United States last month, laying out guidelines to boost sales of chilled and fresh food, the New York Times reported.
The memo, marked highly sensitive, asks Wal-Mart marketing managers to make sure they discount aging meat and baked goods to maximize chances of selling them before their expiration dates, according to the report.
Wal-Mart, which has posted six straight quarters of flat or declining growth in same-store sales, has been battling a stronger dollar and a reduction in U.S. food stamp benefits, which cuts into the budget of the retailer's core customer base.
May Camelopardalids Meteor Shower and Fireballs; Images and Videos From Comet 209P/LINEAR
First-ever Camelopardalid meteor shower to begin Friday night.
Watch Earthgrazer meteor streak through night sky: This basketball-sized meteor that streaked through the skies of the southern United States Friday night is called an Earthgrazer, according to NASA.
Coming to a circumpolar constellation near you: An all-new, never-before-seen, awkwardly named meteor shower that just might knock your astronomical socks off.
It's called the Camelopardalid meteor shower, and unlike annual showers such as the Perseids and Leonids that have been occurring for hundreds or thousands of years, it will occur for the first time the night of May 23 and early morning of May 24.
A meteor shower happens when the Earth passes through debris left in space by a comet (the Perseids, for example, are debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle); the debris, little chunks of rock and other material, burns up in the atmosphere to form what some people call shooting or falling stars.
The Camelopardalids will be debris from Comet 209P/LINEAR, a very dim comet that orbits the sun every five years. The comet was discovered in 2004 by the Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research project, a partnership of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Lincoln Laboratory, NASA and the U.S. Air Force.
But while the Earth has been passing through Swift-Tuttle debris to create the Perseids for thousands of years (the first written account of the shower was in 36 A.D.), this will be the first time the Earth has passed through Comet 209P/LINEAR's leftovers.
Meteor showers vary in intensity: Some produce more meteors than others, and some years a particular meteor shower is better than other years.
It all depends on how much debris the Earth passes through, and some astronomers are predicting that all of Comet 209P/LINEAR's debris trails from 1803 through 1924 will intersect Earth's orbit, so the Camelopardalid meteor shower will be a meteor storm producing hundreds of meteors per hour.
So, how good will it be?
That's always a good question, more so with this meteor shower because it's the first time we're seeing it, said Rich Talcott, senior editor of Astronomy magazine. Over the past 15 or 20 years, astronomers have done a very good job at figuring out, 'OK, here's where the debris streams will lie.' I'm thinking the odds are pretty good we'll get something nice May 24.
Meteor showers are named for the constellation from which the meteors seem to radiate. That point is known as the radiant, and radiant for the Camelopardalids will be the constellation Camelopardalis (the giraffe).
Camelopardalis is a circumpolar constellation, which means that, rather than moving from east to west across the night sky, it goes around Polaris, the North Star, so it's up all night.
It's also easy to find because it's close to the Big Dipper and Little Dipper, two easily recognizable constellations.
The meteor shower will be easier to view in the South, says Carol Stewart, astronomer at the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium in Fort Myers, Fla.
In Southwest Florida, we have an advantage over Northern latitudes because the meteors will come in at us from a lower altitude, she said. Those are called 'Earth-grazers,' and they're longer-lasting and run farther across the sky.
Aside from clouds, a meteor watcher's worst enemy is a bright moon, which can wash out all but the brightest meteors.
On the night of May 23, however, the moon is not present, and it doesn't rise until 3:41 a.m. May 24. When it does rise, it will be a waning crescent, so it won't affect the meteor shower.
Astronomers predict peak activity for the shower will be from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. May 24, but Stewart will be looking at a wider window.
They could start as soon as it gets dark the night of the 23rd, she said. I'm going to go out and check every hour. We don't know because this is the first time, and I don't want to miss it.

Wal-Mart with skylights + dimmable lighting
From Wal-Mart's web site: Every facility Wal-Mart builds today from the ground up includes a skylight/dimming system. As daylight increases, skylights allow Wal-Mart to dim the lights, or even turn them off, thereby reducing the demand for electricity during peak hours.
Nationwide, there are nearly 600 Wal-Mart Supercenters, SAM'S CLUBS and Neighborhood Markets with this system, resulting in an annual savings of about 250 million kwh a year, enough to power approximately 23,000 homes.
No other big box or national retailer has a similar daylighting system. Other stores may turn off some lights, but only Wal-Mart automatically dims all of the lights as the daylight contribution increases.
Based on an in-house study completed in 1998, Wal-Mart found that its daylighting system utilized about 25 to 35 percent less than other big box competitors.
Nationwide, Wal-Mart builds or converts 200-300 facilities each year. All new stores will include the daylighting system.

U.S. Senate: Impeachment Trial (Day 7)
The Senate impeachment trial of President Trump continues with opening arguments by the President’s defense team.
