Manaslu Expedition autumn /spring 2020, Climbing Manaslu, Nepal tour, Kathmandu tour, Trekking NEPAL
Manaslu is situated in central Himalayan range and is part of Mansiri Himal, which also includes Himalchuli (7893m), Ngadi Chuli (7871m), Shringi (7187m), Langpo (6668m) and Saula (6235m).
Standing at an impressive height of 8163m, Manaslu is a peak of choice for experienced mountaineers. However achieving the feat of conquering the world’s eighth highest mountain is not an easy task.
Like the previous year Manaslu is open for climbing in Spring of 2019. Spring is perhaps the best season for climbing the peak since the risk of snowfall and avalanches is at its lowest. Avalanches frequently occur above 6500m and strong winds and bad weather often has turned back many teams. In fact Manaslu has been known as the fourth most dangerous mountain for expeditions after Annapurna, Nanga Parbat and K2.
The mountain has been successfully attempted from different directions. In 1956 the Japanese expedition made it to the top through east face, two expeditions in 1971 approached from northwest spur and north-east face, the 1972 team opened the southwest face, 1973 team reached the summit via north-east face and in 1980 normal route was used.
The base camp is set up at the altitude of 4800m. Mountaineers usually have to go through 4 camps before making final launch to the summit with Camp 4 at a comfortable height of 7900m.
Monterosa Treks & Expedition offers all the logistics required to operate a successful expedition on an 8000-er. We provide the most experienced Sherpa climbers to lead you to the top along with high altitude porters to carry oxygen cylinders, ladders and other necessities up the mountain. Our cooks have years of experience in preparing the best and most nutritious food essential for expedition team. For details about dates of our Manaslu Spring Expedition 2019, please contact us.

Dhaulagiri Expedition 2020, Nepal Expedition, Dhaulagiri Base Camp, Climbing Dhaulagiri, Over 8000m.
In 1960, Swiss climbed Mount Dhaulagiri (8167m) for the first time.
The name of this mountain is derived from Sanskrit word, “Dhavala” meaning white and “Giri” meaning mountain, which combines to become ‘White Mountain’. British surveyors sighted this mountain in India in early 1800s and one of the Indian surveyors, the pundits mapped it in 1873. However, the mountain became popular only after a Swiss aerial survey made in 1949.
DWhen French got permission to climb either Annapurna or Dhaulagiri, they choose Annapurna after making a reconnaissance of Dhaulagiri in 1950. In 1953, a Swiss party failed then an Argentine group tried but failed one year later. And finally, Swiss expedition reached the summit in 1960, following a circuitous route around the mountain from Tukuche, over the Dhampus pass.
French failed to climb the summit from the North-East Col so their expedition was supported by a Swiss Pilatus Porter aircraft, the Yeti which landed on the North-East Col at 5977m. But the plane crashed just before the end of the expedition near Dhampus pass. The pilots, including the famous Emil Wick, walked down the mountain to Tukuche.
In 1969 seven members of U.S expedition team were killed in an avalanche on the eastern Dhaulagiri Glacier. Later, Japanese climbed this mountain in 1970. The Americans and Italians climbed in 1973 and 1976 respectively. Captain Emil Wick airdropped two bottles of wine and a live chicken to the US expedition team from a Pilatus Porter aircrafts. That chicken became the expedition pet, were carried, snow-blind and crippled with frostbitten feet, to Marpha, where it was finally eaten up in the cooking pot as Sherpa’s would not allow the chicken to be killed on the mountain.

Dhaulagiri Expedition Spring 2007 organize by Monterosa Treks & Expedition Pvt. Ltd.
Shishapangma
Shishapangma also called Gosainthān, is the fourteenth-highest mountain in the world and the lowest of the eight-thousanders. It was the last 8,000 metre peak to be climbed, due to its location entirely within Tibet and the restrictions on visits by foreigners to the region imposed by Tibetan and Chinese authorities. In 2011 there was an attempt to summit with international expedition; Ludvik Golob, Janez Levec (Slovenia), Szlanko Zoltan, Veszpremi Janos (Hungary), Pasang Gyljee Sherpa (Nepal). Due to very strong winds and bad weather they reached C3, but could not continue and had to turn and descent.

Manaslu Expedition
Manaslu Expedition- The Killer Mystery
Manaslu (8163m) is the eighth highest mountain situated in Gorkha Nepal. It means mountain of the spirit, comes from the Sanskrit word manasa, meaning Aatma or soul.we know that British first conquered Everest and is their mountain, and Manaslu had been climbed by Japanese team on May 9, 1956 by Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu. Nine climbers wear killed in avalanche in 2012 and it is called as the killer mountain. Its mysterious beauty has always been lured to many climbers from the world. I have climbed this mountain on 30th September, 2016 at 7 am. I have always regret that I couldn't captured it's scenic beauty and mysterious soul due to my arrogance and excitement as I simple jumped there without having good camera and the camera which I brought with myself was dead. I love to address this mountain as my Guru ( Teacher). It is my first successful expedition. the experiences and emotions I got is still very arresting and bewildering, above all, it is my unforgettable moment which inspires me always and later in 2017, after 8 months I have successfully climbed Mount. Everest (8848m).

The Himalayas 5416m/17769 ft best long distance trek in the world/Nepal Gopro 7 2.7k
Annapurna Circuit has often been voted as the best long distance trek in the world, as it combined, in its old full form, a wide variety of climate zones from tropics at 600 m asl to the arctic at 5416 m asl at the Thorong La pass and cultural variety from Hindu villages at the low foothills to the Tibetan culture of Manang Valley and lower Mustang. Continuing construction of a road has shortened the trail and changed the villages. The Beisahar-Manag road has been built which passes through the trekking trail most of the time. That is why NATT (New Annapurna Trekking Trail) trail has becoming popular to see this beautiful valley and Himalayas around Marshyandri River bank. NATT is new trekking trail to Annapurna circuit to avoid road. With construction of the road, mountain biking is becoming popular, with Mustang in particular becoming one of the world's most popular mountain biking destinations.
The mountain scenery, seen at close quarters includes the Annapurna Massif (Annapurna I-IV), Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Manaslu, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, Pisang Peak, and Paungda Danda. Numerous other peaks of 6000-8000m in elevation rise from the Annapurna range.
The trek begins at Besisahar or Bhulbhule in the Marshyangdi river valley and concludes in the Kali Gandaki Gorge. Besisahar can be reached after a seven-hour drive from Kathmandu. The trail passes along paddy fields and into subtropical forests, several waterfalls and gigantic cliffs, and various villages. The Annapurna Circuit is a trek within the mountain ranges of central Nepal. The total length of the route varies between 160–230 km (100-145 mi), depending on where motor transportation is used and where the trek is ended. This trek crosses two different river valleys and encircles the Annapurna Massif. The path reaches its highest point at Thorung La pass (5416m/17769 ft), touching the edge of the Tibetan plateau. Practically all trekkers hike the route anticlockwise, as this way the daily altitude gain is slower, and crossing the high Thorong La pass is easier and safer.

Russian team member giving a byte at 8,000 ft, Pumori - Nepal
Indian army team and Russian team chit chat at tea break during their expedition to Everest. And byte take from a Russian team member at a height of 8,000 ft peak in Pumori, Nepal.
Indian Army added another feather to its cap in May 2001, when its mountaineers successfully scaled Mount Everest and put a record eight members and seven Sherpas on the summit. This is the largest number of summiteers on Mount Everest in an Indian expedition.
The mighty mountain ranges of the Himalayas have, over the centuries, inspired not only man's imagination and spiritual quest, but also his spirit of adventure. Mount Everest, the tallest of the peaks of the Himalayas as also the whole world, stood in its unattainable isolation for thousands of years, till Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary conquered it in 1953. Since then, at least a thousand climbers have set foot on it. That at least 200 have lost their lives while trying to scale the peak speaks of the infinite dangers involved in the task.
The Indian Army Mount Everest Expedition was flagged off by the Chief of the Army Staff on 1st March 2001 at New Delhi. It was led by Col. Krishan Kumar. After flagging off, the team moved to Nepal and after a long trek from Jiri, reached Base Camp of Everest on 3rd April 2001.
The stocking and establishment of various camps was completed by 10th May 2001 and summit attempts were planned for 14-15 May. However, bad weather forced the team to return to Base Camp from Camp-II. Weather remained bad for a few days. Finally on 19th May the team started from the Base Camp for their final attempt to reach the summit. On 20th May the first summit team reached Camp-HI and the next day they reached South Col around 1300 hours. The same night the summit attempt started. After making their way through severe winds and subfreezing conditions, the first party consisting of seven members and three Sherpas finally reached the summit of Everest on 23rd May between 0720 hours and 0845 hours. The second team comprising one member and four Sherpas left Camp-Ill around 0630 hours on 23rd May and reached the summit of Mount Everest around 0545 hours on 24th May 2001.
Smooth de-induction to the Base Camp was subsequently carried out wherein all the camps were closed. In keeping with the Indian Army's care and concern for the protection of the environment, all waste was brought down from the mountain.

Skiing in Nepal
Norbu Sherpa, 7 times Everest summiteer and the first Nepali to ski down from 8000 meter Peak. Training in the Alps to enhance his ski skill for future ski expeditions in the Himalaya.
Lukla Airport - Everest Expeditions Nepal
Mountaineering expedition has changed its meaning, scope and objective over many decades starting from the idea of reaching the highest summits in remote mountain ranges to being a recreational sport today. Mountaineering expedition today is a social high altitude trekking activity with the goal to summit a Himalayan peak as result. Still today like in early days mountaineering expedition requires high fitness level, determination, ability to cope with weeks of isolation and psychological ability to collaborate with a small group of people over 4-6 weeks.
• Many expedition climbs are not highly technical but operating on high altitude increases level of difficulty and even non-technical aspects at sea level turn in to complex, difficult and potentially dangerous or even life threatening at high elevations. Therefore technical abilities or pre-expedition training is an essential part to safety and success with essential skills to use climbing equipment such as ropes, ice axes and crampons. Even guided clients must have a minimum knowledge, experience and awareness of basic rock climbing, scrambling steep snow and rock, protection techniques, crevasse rescue and being able to recognise a danger of potential unstable snow conditions, avalanche, physiological symptoms of dehydration, altitude sickness, cold and hypothermia and fast changing weather conditions.
• Mountaineering training is a continuous and never ending process; it is a way of life and requires a constant practice, and mountaineering instincts have to become a second nature. A small mistake or lapse of concentration can be deadly. The reward however is breathtaking view and unforgettable feeling of life achievement of standing on the top of the summit. Mountaineering in Alps, Andes, or Canadian Rockies can be technically very challenging but adding another dimension of very high altitude in Himalayas over 8000m or even above 7000m, multiplies the level of technical difficulty even in case of a simple high elevation summit, which wouldn’t be classified as a difficult hike at low elevations. The mountaineering effort level ranges from introductory feasible for fit athletes with little prior experience to extremely challenging routes requiring the highest levels of mountain climbing skills, technical rock climbing skills and logistics and personal proficiencies.
• Mountaineering in Nepal is one of the prime activities which positions Nepal as ultimate in high altitude mountaineering with no substitute. The fact that Nepal contains over 1310 snow-capped peaks with eight out of 14 peaks above 8000m attracts mountaineering enthusiasts from all over the world. Apart of obvious 8000m expeditions there are many 7000m dream peaks suitable for short expedition for various levels of climber experience.
Gasherbrum I 8.080 m Ski Expedition 2018
These are a few impressions of my Gasherbrum I/Hidden Peak Ski Expedition 2018. A long spell of bad weather at the beginning of the season in summer 2018 thwarted most of the attempts on the 8000m peaks in the Karakoram. Only K2 and Broad Peak were spared, where a large work force of manpower still allowed teams to plow through the deep snow and keep their routes open, finally sending up to 63 climbers to the summit (K2), whereas Gasherbrum II and I only received 2 proven summitters each. On 18.7.2018 Giampaolo Corona (Italy) and me, Luis Stitzinger (Germany) reached the summit of G1 after an ordeal of 13-14 hrs from our last camp (C3) on 7.100 m. Despite of exhaution and the late hour, I carried out my plan to ski from the top while Giampi made a speedy descent on foot. Due to deteriorating weather conditions and nightfall, though, I was forced to interrupt my descent half way to the last camp and switch to crampons. During the night fresh snowfall and wind had created considerable avalanche hazard in the Japanese Couloir, thus I continued my ski descent only at the foot of the couloir, reaching Basecamp at 5.150 m a few hours later.

Best time to trek in Nepal?
langtang.com Best time to trek in Nepal?
There are four main activities people visit Nepal for -- mountain climbing; trekking; cultural tours of many types; and wildlife tours.
But mountain climbing is a special case and every mountain has its own characteristics and local climate -- so we can't really generalise for climbing. Just contact us directly and Langtang Ri Trekking and Expedition if you want information for planning a climbing expedition. So this video will focus on the other more common activities.
But first, you need to think about where Nepal is located. And what that means for Nepal's climate and seasons. Because Nepal sits just north of India it experiences the same seasonal patterns as India -- in particular, the mid-summer monsoon. But we'll come back to the monsoon in a minute.
The other important factor is Nepal's location on the southern face of the massive Himalaya Mountain Range. So all of northern Nepal is very high mountain peaks and valleys.
While the northern peaks of the Himalaya Mountains reach well over 7,000 and 8,000m and the valleys where treks are conducted often reach altitudes of 4,000m to 5,400m. These altitudes have a huge influence on temperatures and the ability to trek safely.
The two most commonly regions for trekking and in the valleys leading to Mount Everest and its Base Camp.
And the Annapurna region, particularly its southern approaches and base camp area.
So, if you plan to trek to Everest or Annapurna, you know your planned location, but you need to understand the implications of their altitude and the seasons.
The most common Everest trek is from Lukla to Everest base Camp.
It's going to take you about a week to reach base camp and a bit less to return to Lukla.
You'll start at 2,800m or 9,000 feet altitude
And reach 5,300m or 17,400 feet at base camp. That is very very high. The air is thin and it gets colder the higher you go. You'll be walking on a frozen glacier as you approach base camp -- so it gets cold up there.
So, if you plan to trek the high valleys and mountains, best to avoid the dangerous cold and snows of mid-winter.
And the monsoon from June through August tends to be very wet, cloudy and stormy -- so not the most comfortable time to trek to Everest.
While the altitudes reach on Annapurna treks are not quite as high as for Everest, their trekking conditions are similar.
Probably best to plan your visit for Spring or Autumn. While it will be cold in february and November, these are still good times to trek the mountains if you have the right clothing, equipment, accommodation planned and a good guide with you.
But while you might be best not to trek to Everest or Annapurna Base Camps during the monsoon, there are places where you can trek during the monsoon very comfortably.
The Upper Mustang Region can be safely and comfortable trekked any time apart from mid-winter.
And the Annapurna Circuit can also be trekked during the monsoon -- but best avoided mid-winter.
The main Annapurna mountain range is very high and blocks the northward movement of the monsoon clouds and storms.
Forming a rain shadow region north of the mountain range. This reduces the rain and makes trekking possible.
The Upper Mustang trek reaches almost to the border with Tibet.
And the Annapurna Circuit trek will take you through the rain shadow region north of the high ranges.
So these treks can be conducted any month apart from mid-winter.
So, almost any time is a great time to visit Nepal, it just depends what you want to do and where you want to go. If you need help to plan your visit please contact Pamfa -- she has the answers to all your questions. We hope to see you soon at Langtang Ri Trekking and Expedition.
