Dirty Laundry Vineyard - Summerland, British Columbia
Above Okanagan Lake and the original Summerland town site, you will find one of the most interesting and beautiful wineries in all of British Columbia. With the historic Kettle Valley Steam Railroad chugging through the vineyard coupled with lake & mountain vistas, our visitor
experience is rivaled only by the quality of our award-winning wines.
Dirty Laundry Vineyard is situated on a sun-drenched plateau that enjoys an ideal micro-climate for growing exceptional grapes and has some of the oldest vinifera vines in the Okanagan Valley. From these grapes we’ve created wines that are being recognized throughout Canada and the world. We’ve earned medals and accolades in San Francisco, London & the Pacific Rim including “Best of Varietal” awards for both our whites and reds.
Our location’s unique history as a turn of the century Chinese laundry and brothel is key to our cheeky adult theme and the locals rate us as the #1 wine tasting destination in the South Okanagan two years running. Dirty Laundry is definitely a “must see” winery destination in the Okanagan Valley.
WINE-ing in the Okanagan: Must-see wineries
Why go to Napa or Napoli when we have a beautiful wine region right in our backyard!? A 4-hour roadtrip or a 1-hour flight and you’re surrounded by beautiful vineyards, lakes and impressive wines. The weather will almost always guarantee to impress. BC wines have been on the up and up and have been proving themselves in the world as having diversity. The unique environment of water, weather and sunlight have put BC wines, such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Rieslings on the map. We did all the hard work of driving around and tasting all the wine for you and these are our MUST-SEE wineries of the Okanagan. Check out our tour and where to stop in to sleep and eat.
Liquidity Wines
OK Falls
Liquidity isn’t only a winery, it’s an experience. From the changing artwork, to changing bistro menu that boasts fresh and simple food, to of course the wines (we can’t get enough of the Chardonnay!) and the incredible views of Skaha Lake. They will make you feel warm and welcome from the moment you walk through the glass doors. Check in to see Artist Lecture Series monthly.
Stoneboat Vineyards
Oliver
A truly family-run vineyard – from 15 acres to 50! The Martiniuk’s left the craziness of Vancouver and headed out east to open a winery (isn’t that everyone’s dream?) It was a good move, because the Black Sage Bench offers minerals in the ground, unlike any other area – which makes the wine unique and flavorful. Their Pinot Noir is definitely unlike any other and keeps us coming back for more.
Spirit Ridge at Nk’Mip Resort
Osoyoos
After a long day of travel and drinking wine, book a stay at Spirit Ridge - our very own desert right here in BC. Guest suites, vineyard, golf course, fine dining, spa, sparkling pools, it’s luxury at its finest. Nk’Mip Cellars not only has award-winning wines, it’s the FIRST Aboriginal-owned and operated winery. The spa is full-service and offers hot-stone massages (great after that long drive). Enjoy alfresco dinner at Mica, overlooking the desert and lake. Fresh, aboriginal-style cuisine is unique and delicious. Then bedtime in a comfy suite, cozied by a fireplace.
The Jammery
Kelowna
Start the day of right (bring your appetite) at the best breakfast spot in the Okanagan. The Jammery is world-renowned for their in-house made jams in all different flavors. We have a thing for the Amaretto Blueberry. After watching them make jams through the viewing window, sit down and get ready for some of the largest plates of waffles, eggs benny and sandwiches you’ve ever seen!
50th Parallel
Lake Country
International award-winning wines, bumping music and fun vibes, this is #1 on our list of best wineries and soon-to-be destination resort. Run by a power-couple who slaved over the land themselves to build what has become one of the Okanagan’s most impressive spots from the architecture and views, to the vineyards and the hospitality. They offer tours of the property and education of their processes, that end with a tasting that will blow your mind.
8th Generation
Summerland
Passed down through 8 generations of Schales’ boys (hence the name). The first Schales grape was planted in 1783 – that’s some experience unlike anyone else! They have one of the oldest tasting rooms in the Okanagan that’s a restored farmhouse from the 1940's. It's also one of the only wine shops that ACTUALLY faces the vineyard, which means breath taking views while you sip on their crisp and clean wines.
Our fav: INTEGRITY (but you should try them all)
Dirty Laundry
Summerland
The only thing better than Dirty Laundry’s Bordello wine (which is virtually impossible to beat), is the story that it actually WAS a bordello. The story goes that a immigrant worker named Sam, quit his job and opened a laundromat. He realized soon after that his customers had needs for other things, like drinks and gambling .and women. Dirty (upstairs) Laundry (downstairs) was born. The original location still stands and they play up on the story, but now surrounded by beautiful vineyards and makes delicious, award-winning wines, making it one of the most fun wineries ever. You can order a picnic and sit on the patio and watch the steam engine go by.
BC Winegrowers - Black Sage Vineyards - Oliver/ Summerland
The historic home of big B.C. reds is Oliver’s famed Black Sage Bench located just south of Oliver. Black Sage Vineyard farms the original plantings 115-acre site at BSV1 planted in 1992 and nearby the more recently planted BSV2. We talk with winemaker Jason James and vineyard manager Troy Osborne about the challenges and the opportunities of growing grapes and making wine from of the warmest and oldest vineyard sites in Canada. Join us as we explore the vineyard, discuss the BSV Merlot and BSV Cabernet Franc and the new revamped Black Sage Hall and tasting facility in Summerland.

Champagne Taittinger
Pierre Taittinger arrived in Champagne during World War I as an injured officer, convalescing in the Château de la Marquetterie, a French command post just outside Épernay, about 150 km east of Paris. Smitten by the building and the landscape, he vowed to return to buy it should he ever have the means. When the Great Depression of the 1930s swept through Europe, the fortunes of the champagne house Forest-Fourneaux which owned the chateau, diminished considerably, and Pierre stepped in and relaunched the business under the Taittinger name.
Two decades later, in the 1950s, Taittinger joined the Syndicat des Grandes Marques. Back then, Taittinger was selling a renowned single vineyard wine labelled Folies de la Marquetterie, and rest, as they say, is history.
Taittinger's headquarters is in Reims, a half-hour from the chateau, and in a massive 13th-century mansion on the Rue de Tambour. It sits above a network of chalk caves, originally dug out by Romans, quarrying the contents for building, dating back to the 4th century. It is also the former home of Count Theobald IV, who reigned over Champagne from 1222. Theobald was rumoured to have brought the chardonnay grape to the region from Cyprus, although UC Davis researchers have long since proven this to be false. True or not, Taittinger’s best wine is named Comtes de Champagne in Theobald’s honour, and the wine is 100 percent chardonnay.
The company thrived under Francois Taittinger, who added the family name to the labels and and through a series of strategic moves, including creating the Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs, established the style of the house. Francois died in a car accident and his younger brother Claude took over until financial woes beset Taittinger at the turn of the century. That led to a controversial sale in July 2005 to the American-owned Starwood Hotel Group, but the deal was shortlived. Thanks to Claude’s nephew Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger, industry friends and Credit Agricole, the family regained control of the business less than a year later.
All of which brings us to the present.
When we met with Vitalie Taittinger in Reims, it was days before she would be confirmed the new president, taking over for her father, Pierre-Emmanuel. Brother Clovis is the General Manager and the Director of Marketing and Sales worldwide, and together, they ensure that Taittinger will remain a family business for another generation.
With 288 hectares of vines, the Taittinger family is amongst the largest vineyard owners in Champagne. The vineyard is planted to 37% chardonnay, 48% pinot noir, and 15% pinot meunier distributed equally across 37 highly-rated vineyards, and on par with the best in the region. As early as 1945, François Taittinger relied on chardonnay to launch a long line of elegant sparkling wines full of finesse and precision that would come to define Taittinger’s signature house style.
Follow us as we tour the property and the cellars of Taittinger and record the first interview of President Vitalie Taittinger as she expounds on the past, the present, and the future at Champagne Taittinger, where more than anything, the wines are about emotion.
