San Diego remains the memories of war everywhere in the city. Only San Diego has a huge statue commemorating the end of World War II, the joy of that day passed untouched. Previous news will be made from a photo taken from New York to tell me Jean pieces. Now I feel anew the peace dear. War is not an easy situation for anyone. Comedian Bob Hope entertaining had a number of soldiers in World War II, Korea War, the Vietnam War period. So Congress was the only one who honors military veterans approved.

USS MIDWAY - Bringing the ship to San Diego as a museum was the source of some controversy. Critics raised objections including environmental concerns and blocking of scenic sightlines.
Under the terms agreed to in receiving space to dock the ship, a portion of the ships bow is accessible free of charge to allow all visitors to enjoy views of the San Diego harbor and skyline without paying admission, and the preservation of some acres of land as a wetland habitat.
There were also concerns that the Midway Museum would steal customers from other local attractions. For example, the ship is located near the independently operated Maritime Museum of San Diego, which includes a collection of historic ships including the tall ship Star of India and the Surprise, a replica British frigate used in the filming of the movie Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World.
Through 2004, the Maritime business has actually received an increase of visitors, and the Executive Director of the Maritime Museum believes that part of the credit goes to the arrival of the Midway
USS MIDWAY - (CVB/CVA/CV-41) was an aircraft carrier of the United States Navy, the lead ship of her class, and the first to be commissioned after the end of World War II. Active in the Vietnam War and in Operation Desert Storm, she is currently a museum ship at the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum, in San Diego, California.
She is the only remaining US aircraft carrier of the World War II era that is not an Essex-class ship.
Midway was laid down 27 October 1943 by Newport News Shipbuilding Co., Newport News, Virginia. Her revolutionary hull design was based on what would have been the Montana class battleships and gave her superior maneuverability over all previous carriers. She was launched 20 March 1945; sponsored by Mrs. Bradford William Ripley, Jr.; and commissioned 10 September 1945, Captain Joseph F. Bolger in command.

Mount Soledad Veteran's Memorial Ceremony 2010
Hi, dad...hi, grandpa...hi, brother, said several men and women as they placed bouquets of flowers beside black granite plaques on the Memorial Walls at the Mount Soledad Veteran's Memorial Day Ceremony, the windy afternoon of May 31. Some visitors traced their fingers over the plaques, where photographs and engraved summaries of military experience, honor approximately 3,000 veterans; reflecting service spanning from the Civil War forward, to include the current conflicts in the Middle East.
I'm on Wall F, said 84 year old veteran Sam Nicosia whose plaque title read: Chief Gunners Mate with the U.S. Navy -- WWII -- Korea -- Vietnam, followed by a thick paragraph listing his earned medals and ribbons. Nicosia's plaque lay somewhere between the familiar faces of Bob Hope, Jimmy Stewart and General Patton, Jr. Not a bad location, said Nicosia smiling.
I met Bob Hope in his USO show...they came into the hospital in Alameda, California in 1945... they put on a show in the Alameda naval hospital. Nicosia posed for a photograph and pointed to a plaque engraved with the names of his three drafted brothers. Was Sam also drafted? No, I volunteered when they were drafted, said Nicosia who served from 1942 through 1971.
The Mt. Soledad Memorial Day ceremony, whose motto is: If you love freedom, thank a veteran and the active military, typically attracts 800 to 1,000 attendees (this year was no exception) including: City, State and National officials, officers of the 75 veterans' organizations in SD County, Medal of Honor recipients and the general public.
Veterans in attendance were asked to stand in acknowledgement of their service and received applause. Some of those acknowledged included individuals who had served in Vietnam, the Korean War, Iraq-Afghanistan Desert Shield / Desert Storm, and others. Patriotic Overture was performed by the Navy band - Southwest Brass Quintet, led by MU2 -- Joe Moore. Present (and Retire) the Colors were performed by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wings Color Guard.
You've just seen the San Diego Salute T-34 Team Flyover perform the time honored Missing Man formation, said MSMA President Bruce Bailey during the closing
remarks after 4, T-34's flew, flawlessly, overhead.
