Karen Brown's Union Street Inn, San Francisco, California
The Union Street Inn, in the city of San Francisco
Union Street is always a favorite place to dine, shop, and play; and the several blocks stretching out at the foot of exclusive Pacific Heights offer charming restaurants and pretty boutiques in quaint Victorian houses.
Right in the heart of this attractive area, in a pretty, light-yellow Victorian house with green trim, is the Union Street Inn.
Steps on the left side of the building lead up to the front door, which opens into a small reception foyer. To the left is an old-fashioned sitting room all kitted out in period furniture.
Doors from the parlor lead out to the most special feature of the inn—an exceptionally attractive, English-style garden where a brick path meanders through a medley of shrubs, flowers, and shade trees.
At the end of the garden, behind a white picket fence, is an adorable cottage converted into a guest suite (The Carriage House).
In the house itself are five more guestrooms, each individually decorated in a traditional style.
We liked the quiet location of the English Garden Room, with its little deck overlooking the garden and enjoyed the spaciousness of the New Yorker which is large enough to accommodate both a queen and sofa bed and has a large bay window overlooking the activity of Union Street.
Wine and hors d'oevres are set out for guests each afternoon, and in the morning a full breakfast is served either on the deck, in the parlor or in your room.

ROAD TRIP VLOG: NEW MEXICO, ARIZONA AND UTAH
Talk about an epic road trip in the United States. This road trip took us 9 days and 8 nights.
Day one we drove all night from Texas to New Mexico and arrived at White Sands National Monument a couple hours before closing which is at sunset. We had plenty of time to enjoy climbing the sand dunes, sand boarding down the dunes and doing one of the gorgeous hikes while watching the sunset. After the hike we headed to a very unique Airbnb that was actually a shipping container in Las Cruces.
Day 2 we spend all day driving to Arizona and found a cheap hotel to sleep in.
Day three first thing in the morning we got up and looked up directions to Antelope canyon. We couldn’t decide between the upper and the lower canyon but we went with the lower for the fact that its move active on social media. After exploring the lower canyon, we made our way to Horse Shoe Bend. Having planned our day full of activities we planned to go to The Wave afterwards but when we looked it up we found out you have to make reservations months in advance or win a lottery the morning of. It was kind of a bummer so we decided to drive to Utah and take a photo where Forest Gump ran on highway US 163 in front of Monument Valley. When we got there, the sun was starting to set behind the monument and unfortunately it made for a bad photo. We didn't get our Forest Gump photo but we were able to drive on the other side of the monument before the sun set and it still looked pretty amazing. We should have gotten a hotel so we could head to Zion national park in the morning but we ended up going back to the hotel in Arizona and staying another night so we could see the upper antelope cannon.
Day four we went to see the upper Antelope canyon and drove to Zion. Zion national park had so much for us to see. We definitely wish we had more time there and have to plan a trip back. We were able to fit in the lookout and hike up to Angels Landing in our little time we had left. Note for next time bring hiking shoes because it's not the best idea to hike in running shoes. We still ended up hiking a little of what we could at Angles Landing before it got dark and we couldn't make it back down. We drove straight from Zion to Las Vegas and got a room at the Cosmopolitan. Talk about a great view from our room of the Bellagio fountains. We spent the night out in Vegas at Hakkasan.
Day five we got breakfast at the Wicked Spoon then dessert at black tap. We didn't have enough time but also wanted to do desert dune buggies. We left from there and headed straight to Los Angeles. The weather was terrible for the weekend. Pouring rain, so we didn't get to do the things we had in mine. We planned on going to Mumm Napa and doing the patio and sparkling wine tasting then hitting up some cute dessert spots. Luckily Meli and her boyfriend had friends in Los Angeles so our day wasn't ruined.
Day six we ended up going to their friends house who was having a super bowl party in the Hollywood Hills. Oh if your in LA don't forget to get breakfast at Blu Jam Cafe. We also tried The Waffle that was pretty good as well. Of corse we did the whole LA night life as well. We ended up staying an extra day sense San Francisco was still pouring rain. Day eight We drove to San Francisco and just got dinner at Poggio Trattoria then knocked out at a cute boutique called Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa. We dropped Meli car off that morning then got a flight back to Houston on day nine.

The War on Drugs Is a Failure
The War on Drugs is a campaign of prohibition and foreign military aid and military intervention being undertaken by the United States government, with the assistance of participating countries, intended to both define and reduce the illegal drug trade. More on this topic:
This initiative includes a set of drug policies of the United States that are intended to discourage the production, distribution, and consumption of illegal psychoactive drugs. The term War on Drugs was first used by President Richard Nixon in 1971.
On May 13, 2009, Gil Kerlikowske, the current Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), signaled that although it did not plan to significantly alter drug enforcement policy, the Obama administration would not use the term War on Drugs, as he claims it is counter-productive. ONDCP's view is that drug addiction is a disease that can be successfully prevented and treated... making drugs more available will make it harder to keep our communities healthy and safe.(2011) One of the alternatives that Mr Kerlikowske has showcased is Sweden's Drug Control Policies that combine balanced public health approach and opposition to drug legalization. The prevalence rates for cocaine use in Sweden are barely one-fifth of European neighbors such as the United Kingdom and Spain.
In June 2011, the Global Commission on Drug Policy released a critical report on the War on Drugs, declaring The global war on drugs has failed, with devastating consequences for individuals and societies around the world. Fifty years after the initiation of the UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, and years after President Nixon launched the US government's war on drugs, fundamental reforms in national and global drug control policies are urgently needed. The report was immediately criticized by organizations that oppose a general legalization of drugs.
In 1986, the US Defense Department funded a two-year study by the RAND Corporation, which found that the use of the armed forces to interdict drugs coming into the United States would have little or no effect on cocaine traffic and might, in fact, raise the profits of cocaine cartels and manufacturers. The 175-page study, Sealing the Borders: The Effects of Increased Military Participation in Drug Interdiction, was prepared by seven researchers, mathematicians and economists at the National Defense Research Institute, a branch of the RAND, and was released in 1988. The study noted that seven prior studies in the past nine years, including one by the Center for Naval Research and the Office of Technology Assessment, had come to similar conclusions. Interdiction efforts, using current armed forces resources, would have almost no effect on cocaine importation into the United States, the report concluded.
During the early-to-mid-1990s, the Clinton administration ordered and funded a major cocaine policy study, again by RAND. The Rand Drug Policy Research Center study concluded that $3 billion should be switched from federal and local law enforcement to treatment. The report said that treatment is the cheapest way to cut drug use, stating that drug treatment is twenty-three times more effective than the supply-side war on drugs.
The National Research Council Committee on Data and Research for Policy on Illegal Drugs published its findings on the efficacy of the drug war. The NRC Committee found that existing studies on efforts to address drug usage and smuggling, from U.S. military operations to eradicate coca fields in Colombia, to domestic drug treatment centers, have all been inconclusive, if the programs have been evaluated at all: The existing drug-use monitoring systems are strikingly inadequate to support the full range of policy decisions that the nation must make.... It is unconscionable for this country to continue to carry out a public policy of this magnitude and cost without any way of knowing whether and to what extent it is having the desired effect. The study, though not ignored by the press, was ignored by top-level policymakers, leading Committee Chair Charles Manski to conclude, as one observer notes, that the drug war has no interest in its own results.
During alcohol prohibition, the period from 1920 to 1933, alcohol use initially fell but began to increase as early as 1922. It has been extrapolated that even if prohibition had not been repealed in 1933, alcohol consumption would have quickly surpassed pre-prohibition levels. One argument against the War on Drugs is that it uses similar measures as Prohibition and is no more effective.
Suspense: 'Til the Day I Die / Statement of Employee Henry Wilson / Three Times Murder
The aim for thrillers is to keep the audience alert and on the edge of their seats. The protagonist in these films is set against a problem -- an escape, a mission, or a mystery. No matter what sub-genre a thriller film falls into, it will emphasize the danger that the protagonist faces. The tension with the main problem is built on throughout the film and leads to a highly stressful climax. The cover-up of important information from the viewer, and fight and chase scenes are common methods in all of the thriller subgenres, although each subgenre has its own unique characteristics and methods.[8]
A thriller provides the sudden rush of emotions, excitement, sense of suspense and exhilaration that drive the narrative, sometimes subtly with peaks and lulls, sometimes at a constant, breakneck pace thrills. In this genre, the objective is to deliver a story with sustained tension, surprise, and a constant sense of impending doom. It keeps the audience cliff-hanging at the edge of their seats as the plot builds towards a climax. Thrillers tend to be fast-moving, psychological, threatening, mysterious and at times involve larger-scale villainy such as espionage, terrorism and conspiracy.
Thrillers may be defined by the primary mood that they elicit: fearful excitement. In short, if it thrills, it is a thriller. As the introduction to a major anthology explains:
...Thrillers provide such a rich literary feast. There are all kinds. The legal thriller, spy thriller, action-adventure thriller, medical thriller, police thriller, romantic thriller, historical thriller, political thriller, religious thriller, high-tech thriller, military thriller. The list goes on and on, with new variations constantly being invented. In fact, this openness to expansion is one of the genre's most enduring characteristics. But what gives the variety of thrillers a common ground is the intensity of emotions they create, particularly those of apprehension and exhilaration, of excitement and breathlessness, all designed to generate that all-important thrill. By definition, if a thriller doesn't thrill, it's not doing its job.
—James Patterson, June 2006, Introduction, Thriller[9]
Writer Vladimir Nabokov, in his lectures at Cornell University, said: In an Anglo-Saxon thriller, the villain is generally punished, and the strong silent man generally wins the weak babbling girl, but there is no governmental law in Western countries to ban a story that does not comply with a fond tradition, so that we always hope that the wicked but romantic fellow will escape scot-free and the good but dull chap will be finally snubbed by the moody heroine.

SUMMARY
=======
Cyprus ( (listen); Greek: Κύπρος [ˈcipros]; Turkish: Kıbrıs [ˈkɯbɾɯs]), officially the Republic of Cyprus (Greek: Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία; Turkish: Kıbrıs Cumhuriyeti), is an island country in the Eastern Mediterranean and the third largest and third most populous island in the Mediterranean, located south of Turkey, west of Syria and Lebanon, northwest of Israel, north of Egypt, and southeast of Greece.
The earliest known human activity on the island dates to around the 10th millennium BC. Archaeological remains from this period include the well-preserved Neolithic village of Khirokitia, and Cyprus is home to some of the oldest water wells in the world. Cyprus was settled by Mycenaean Greeks in two waves in the 2nd millennium BC. As a strategic location in the Middle East, it was subsequently occupied by several major powers, including the empires of the Assyrians, Egyptians and Persians, from whom the island was seized in 333 BC by Alexander the Great. Subsequent rule by Ptolemaic Egypt, the Classical and Eastern Roman Empire, Arab caliphates for a short period, the French Lusignan dynasty and the Venetians, was followed by over three centuries of Ottoman rule between 1571 and 1878 (de jure until 1914).Cyprus was placed under British administration based on the Cyprus Convention in 1878 and was formally annexed by Britain in 1914. While Turkish Cypriots made up 18% of the population, the partition of Cyprus and creation of a Turkish state in the north became a policy of Turkish Cypriot leaders and Turkey in the 1950s. Turkish leaders for a period advocated the annexation of Cyprus to Turkey as Cyprus was considered an extension of Anatolia by them; while, since the 19th century, the majority Greek Cypriot population and its Orthodox church had been pursuing union with Greece, which became a Greek national policy in the 1950s. Following nationalist violence in the 1950s, Cyprus was granted independence in 1960. In 1963, the 11-year intercommunal violence between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots started, which displaced more than 25,000 Turkish Cypriots and brought the end of Turkish Cypriot representation in the republic. On 15 July 1974, a coup d'état was staged by Greek Cypriot nationalists and elements of the Greek military junta in an attempt at enosis, the incorporation of Cyprus into Greece. This action precipitated the Turkish invasion of Cyprus on 20 July, which led to the capture of the present-day territory of Northern Cyprus in the following month, after a ceasefire collapsed, and the displacement of over 150,000 Greek Cypriots and 50,000 Turkish Cypriots. A separate Turkish Cypriot state in the north was established by unilateral declaration in 1983; the move was widely condemned by the international community, with Turkey alone recognizing the new state. These events and the resulting political situation are matters of a continuing dispute.
