Best Places in Arashiyama for Autumn Leaves and Bamboo Without Crowds | Japan Vlog 34 | Lin Nyunt
We visited the best places in Arashiyama to see autumn leaves and illuminations without the massive crowds of people. We also went to a bamboo forest without all the tourists. I'll show you that it is possible to go to hidden and quiet spots in Arashiyama free of the throngs of visitors.
Our tour guide: Tadashi Takai
Itinerary
Take a bus from near Hankyu Arashiyama station bound for Toriimoto.
1) Adashino Nenbutsu-Ji Temple Autumn Leaves and Bamboo Forest 1:29
This peaceful temple is lovely for autumn leaves and has its very own bamboo forest. It's much easier to have it all to yourself unlike the main bamboo forest in Arashiyama full of tourists.
2) Hiranoya and Saga Toriimoto Preserved Street 1:53
This street has a beautiful red torii gate and various shops and tea houses to look at.
*By the way, Hiranoya tea house is actually 400 years old!
3) Nisonin Monzen Chaya 2:55
This shop sells extremely delicious butaman and mitarashi dango. In fact it's some of the best I've eaten.
4) Kotouen Ceramic Shop 4:05
A family run business that sells incredible hand-crafted ceramics.
5) Saga Tofu Ine Restaurant 4:28
6) Hogon-in Temple Autumn Leaf Illuminations 4:36

Adashino Nenbutsuji in Kyoto, Japan
A Buddhist temple from the 9th century with its main feature being a gravesite with 8,000 Buddha statues representing people who were buried in unmarked graves or had no next of kin.
Adashino Nenbutsu-ji, Arashiyama Kyoto - 化野念仏寺●京都 - Japan As It Truly Is
Adashino Nenbutsuji in Kyoto gives a rare look at an ancient cemetery. You'll never look at the final resting place the same again.
The major Buddhist figure Kukai (774-835 AD) established a temple here to consecrate the cemetery, and there is very little in Japan like it. There is also a modern cemetery next to it, and while not at the top of most people's sightseeing list, you can get a good window into a culture by looking at how the departed are taken care of.
This footage was shot at the peak of the cherry blossom season in April, and while not a lot of gardens are there, it still adds to the beauty and soul of the place.
Arashiyama lies on the west side of the city and makes a good half or full day to see the many sights.

Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple maple in Early autumn on November, Kyoto, Japan.

Nembutsu-ji Temple and park Adashino (near Kyoto Japan)
Very impressive and old Buddhistic 'graveyard' in Adashino near Kyoto. Walking in this area and visiting this place was like walking on a filmset (really beautiful).
【4k】化野念仏寺-Adashino Nenbutsu-ji:Arashiyama and Sagano
Adashino Nenbutsu-ji (化野念仏寺 Adashino Nenbutsuji) is a Buddhist temple in Ukyo-ku, Kyoto, Japan. In 811 Kūkai is said to have founded a temple, then Honen altered it to the present Nenbutsuji. Situated high on a hill overlooking the city from the northwest, it sits in an area where since the Heian period people abandoned the bodies of the dead, exposing them to the wind and rain. Now, some eight thousand Buddhist statuettes, which had been scattered around Adashino then collected about 1903, memorialize the souls of the dead. During its well-known 'sento kuyo', a ceremony dedicated to the spirits of the dead, about ten thousand stone statues are lit up with candles.
Exploring the Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple in Kyoto
Otagi Nenbutsu-ji (念仏寺) Temple, Arashiyama, Kyoto Prefecture
Otagi Nenbusuji (念仏寺) temple is located near Arashiyama District in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan.
The temple, originally called Otagi-ji Temple, was first built in the Otagi District (the central part of present-day Kyoto) by order of Emperor Shotoku in the latter half of 8th century. Even though this temple was founded in the Heian period (794-1192) in Otagi district, it was later moved to the Enryakuji Temple complex in Mt. Hiei. Over a period of three years beginning in 1922, the temple was transfered to its present location in the Saga Arashiyama District in order to preserve it.
The temple has a incredible array of 1200 carved stone figures of Rakan (Disciples of Buddha) made by people from various parts of the country from 1981 to 1991. All of the carvings have amusing or contentious expressions that warm the hearts of the visitors.
Enjoy!!!

Much of the preserved street of Saga-Toriimoto leading to the Adashino Nenbutsuji Temple has been well maintained in the style of the Meiji Period (1868-1912). Many of the buildings along this atmospheric street are traditional machiya (town houses) style that used to serve as private residences but have then been converted into shops and restaurants.

Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple
Another ten minute's walk north of the similarly named Adashino Nenbutsuji, the Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple is famous for its 1200 stone statues of rakan, devoted followers of Buddhism, each with a different facial expression. Created relatively recently in the 1980s and early 1990s, the many statues stand across the temple grounds which cover part of a forested mountain slope.

Kyoto | Adashino Nembutsu-ji Temple, shopping, lunch & Owl/Bengal cat Cafe | Japan Vlog #5
We had such a nice time in Arashiyama, Kyoto. After we visited the Bamboo Forest, we walked up North towards the mountains & found Adashino Nembutsu-ji Temple. Afterwards we went back into Saga-Arashiyama Area which is a long Shopping Street. We had a Tofu based lunch (It wasn't our favourite) & then we found an Owl retreat/Bengal cat cafe.
