Monarto Zoo - Mannum, South Australia - Discover Downunder
In this video, Brooke Hansen of Discover Downunder visits the incredible Monarto Zoo, near historical Mannum in South Australia.
Monarto started off in 1983 as a closed special purpose breeding area. It is now an International standard conservation, national and zoological bio-park that supports education and public recreation.
The Park is operated by the Royal Zoological Society of South Australia which has developed over 1,000 hectares of fauna and flora sanctuary and open range zoological park.
Five major habitat exhibits have been developed, including the Asian Steppes, arid North Africa, African plains and Asian grasslands, as the first stage of development at Monarto.
The second stage includes habitats for the Cheetah, African Dog, African Lion and Black Rhino.
The zoo is close by to Mannum Caravan Park. The park couldn't be any closer to the mighty Murray River and even has its own boat ramp! Located 84km from Adelaide, the park features a great camp kitchen, a games room, internet access, a 1/2 size tennis court and a basketball ring.
There are caravan sites and cabins than actually front the river as well as many other accommodation options.

Amongst the must see places of Adelaide, Australia is the Monarto Zoo. I recently visited the zoo and recorded the video for you guys, tried best to get as much clarity as possible. I have intentionally not kept a voice over because I felt the background sound will actually help you travel to that place. Hope you enjoy, lemme know what you think ! Cheers

Located at roughly 70 kms from the Adelaide city centre and a 45 minutes drive away is Monarto Zoo. It is an open zoo spread across1500 hectare. Other than getting to watch the animals from a very close proximity, you get to meet and interact with the zoo keepers who share some fun facts about the inhabitants. My personal favourite is the meal time of the animals where you witness their eating habits. Animals are kept free and each's closure is made just like those animals would need to feel at home. Cheers
Monarto Zoo, Australia
Monarto Zoo is Australia’s largest open range zoo which is located 60 km south-east of the city of Adelaide, South Australia. This beautiful animal sanctuary has an area of 1000 hectare and holds several unique attractions including Australia’s largest lion and giraffe herds, purpose built viewing decks and keeper presentations.
No matter how many zoos you have already been in, it is definitely a different experience for you.
In Monarto zoo, animals are not kept in a confined and artificial space, here each herd has been placed in a large and natural habitat to live and wander freely. The habitat for lions itself is about 10 hectares.
Visitors can choose walking and bus tours to see awesome animals wandering in their natural habitat freely.
Upon receiving on visitor center you are given a warm welcome by Monarto zoo’s friendly staff and they provide you with briefings and a map and presentations’ timetable. Then you can schedule your whole day to see animals in your own pace and preference.
During presentations, keepers feed animals and you can get the chance to see them from viewing platforms from close distance and take photograph of them. Bus tours also drive through habitats and you can also see African, Asian and Australian animals. During each bus tour, a staff from Monarto zoo will give you very detailed information about each animal.
Did you know that Giraffes don’t sleep during their whole lifetime? Or did you know that hyena is the second most intelligent animal after chimpanzee? Or currently the population of the lions in the world is approximately 10,000 which was 60,000 ten years ago.
All these interesting facts will be provided by knowledgeable Monarto Zoo’s staff to you.
You will definitely experience one of the greatest lifetime opportunities to watch endangered species in Monarto zoological park which is highly recommended when you are discovering the beautiful Australia.

Monarto Zoo In South Australia
I filmed this some time back and made it for AustralianPictorials.com
It's a great open plains zoo in South Australia and well worth a visit.
MONARTO ZOO, SA - Vlog No. 1
Monarto Zoological Park (or Monarto Zoo) will bring you that African Safari feels where 1,500 more hectares zoo plays a vital role in the conservation of threatened native species from across the world. Adelaide Zoo can even fit in there. ????
Animals roam freely and they're really well-monitored and looked after. Even mimicking an atmosphere of Africa's drylands as their habitat is very important.
If you feel energised, you can explore the zoo by foot! There are 10km network of tracks you can choose from!
Also, you can hop on the Zu-Loop Shuttle (free admission) to save you energy! They've also got very informative & passionate tour guides who will share information about the zoo and some facts about their animals. To make out the most of your visit, hop off at their viewing platforms!
Worth the visit, worth the drive, worth the penny, worth the early morning alarm!
Pick a date, go online (monartozoo.com.au | adelaidezoo.com.au) and buy your tickets to visit. Doing so can help our South Australian Zoos and you're helping them take good care of these wonderful animals and support their conservation projects in the wild. ????

Thanks Mama for planning this adventurous fambam day out!
We totally enjoyed it and I didn't expect that I would have such fascination for chimpanzees. Forgive me if it took you almost 10mins to make me get off that wooden chair that was facing the chimp enclosure. I adored them so much. ???????? Also, thanks for giving me another reason to pull out my camera and enlightening me that I love to capture 'life'. ????????????

Thanks Ted's Camera sa equipments ko (Olympus OMD E-M10 Mark II & Joby Gorillapod 1K) and Papa G for not letting me buy a new camera since I've already got a pretty good one! Hehe Matuto maging satisfied!
[LIONS] A Visit To LIONS 360 + FEEDING at MONARTO Zoo - South Australia
We took a visit to LIONS 360 at Monarto Zoo in South Australia. We also chose to do the optional feeding of the lions.
Due to an excessively windy day, the wind noise is unavoidable, but I've reduced it as much as I can.
The lions at Monarto are totally wild and are not handled by the keepers at all, so they retain their natural instincts and behaviours.
Some aren't too happy with camera, the keepers suspect they can see themselves in the lens.
This is a new feature at Monarto Zoo, which has only been running a few months. As such, the lions are not too familiar with people that aren't the keepers.
The male lions are currently in a different part of the zoo.
The male lions are much more aggressive than the females but the keepers told me they wanted to do the experience with the male lions in the future.
