Hiking Admiral Lake Loop, Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova Scotia Canada
The Admiral Lake look is a 6ish km trail in Musquodoboit Harbour NS. There are two trailheads - located 1.7km and 2.4km North of the Parking lot up the Musquodoboit Trailway.
A short, but fairly rugged hike with great look-offs and a few steep ascents. One of the nicer trails I've walked in the province. While animals were scarce the tremendous variety of lichen and moss made up for the lack.
Admiral Lake Loop Hiking in Nova Scotia
Decided to take advantage of a cool morning and do the 10km loop along the Musquodoboit Traillway Association trail: Admiral Lake Loop trail.
This is a wilderness type trail and some sections along a cliff which overlooks the nearby harbour and into the Atlantic Ocean.
We started out along the rails to trail terminus and hike for almost 4km before we took the trailhead for the actual loop. We decided to the long way, which is to finish at the lookout, then downhill to about 1.7km from the car. Most people would just head up the steep incline to the lookout for a much shorter hike.
Trail is well maintained for wilderness hiking, there is some primitive facilities along the trailway section, but one you are on the loop there is nothing.
Along the way there are a number of sights such as Skull Rock, Rolling Stone, the Cave and of course a fantastic view of Admiral Lake which is essentially on the other side of the cliff.
Good footwear, water and usual hiking essentials for this hike. You can bring your dog, but be mindful of the steep section at the various lookoffs where the steep drop is substantial.

Hiking Trails of Nova Scotia - Admiral Lake
From the small community of Musquodoboit Harbour an impressive trail network has been developed by volunteers. The possibilities include a 14.5 km abandoned rail line, or a number of challenging wilderness hiking trails.

Admiral Lake Loop - Musquodoboit Trails
We hiked the Admiral Lake Loop on April 28th 2013 which is just off the Musquodoboit Rails to trail. This backcountry loop offers a strenuous hike, with several steep climbs and panoramic viewpoints. The main look-offs are Skull Rock, Rolling Rock (so named for the huge boulder perched precariously on its top) and Harbour lookoff offering spectacular views over ocean, village, harbour, inlet and coast as far as Lawrencetown to the south. Another feature of the trail is a talus cave where a large rock has fallen from a cliff, leaving a natural archway. At the half-way point to enjoy a 180 degree panorama over the White Lake Wilderness area, and island-studded Admiral Lake.

Hiking the Kenomee Canyon Loop Trail - Economy, Nova Scotia
A video description of the Kenomee Canyon Loop Trail in Economy, Nova Scotia.
We hiked the loop trail clockwise and camped at Murphy Brook Falls for the night. The loop trail starts and ends at Economy Falls and is approximately 20 kilometers long.
There are three camping areas on the trail, Chain Lake Stream Falls, Murphy Brook Falls and Newton Lake. All three camping areas are at least a kilometer off the main trail. There are a total of 4 brook crossings on the loop and ease of crossing depends on the time of year and the water levels.
Excellent trail less than 2 hours from Halifax.
From Halifax,...
Take Hwy #102 to Truro and then drive west on Hwy #104 towards New Brunswick
Exit 11 at Glenholme.
Turn onto Highway #2 and follow for 34 km to Economy.
Turn right onto River Philip Road (dirt) and travel about 6.5 km to a trail head parking area, on the right.
River Philip Road is basically in the middle of what you'd call downtown Economy, just past the gas station which might have recently closed up.
The trail head for the Kenomee Canyon Loop Trail is at Economy Falls and there are more direction signs to the falls so look for them instead of signs for Kenomee Canyon.

Wilderness Bluffs Trail | Pot Lake Loop | Halifax | Subtitles | Nova Scotia | Canada
In this video we are hiking the wilderness bluffs trail, about 20 minutes outside of Halifax (in Timberlea), Nova Scotia, Canada.
We got a group of 9 humans and 1 pooch together to do this hike on a beautiful spring day in May.
There are a series of loops ranging from 8 kms (only doing 1 trail) to 30 kms (doing all 3 trails). We chose the 8k trail!
It was a busy day with lots of people and dogs on the trail. We had a great hike. I hope you also enjoy the hike as well!
This bluffs wilderness trail was quite nice. We are always looking to hike Nova Scotia, and this was an enjoyable trail. As you will see, or saw, this trail had a lot to offer, and is one of the better hiking trails in the Halifax are.
This trail (Pot Lake Loop) gives you wonderful views of Pot Lake from above and alongside the lake.
Hiking in Canada is great as you can see!

Admiral Lake Loop Hike
A favorite trail system of mine is in Musquodoboit.trailway that winds along the Musquodoboit river east of Halifax. The trail system consists of the rails to trail and five wilderness trails. The Admiral Lake Loop is the first trail off the trailway and probably the most hiked. I hiked to the second access and hiked in a counter-clockwise fashion. You quickly rise above Bayer Lake to reach a look-off called Jessie's Diner. You continue along the trail slightly down hill passing by Eunice Lake before you climb again reaching a look-off that overlooks the island specked namesake of the trail. I then continued along the trail going through the cave and eventually reaching Harbour look-off, Rolling Rock and Skull Rock. After Skull Rock you go downhill until you reach the trailway and retrace your step to the parking lot. It is a wonderful wilderness trail that isn't too difficult to hike.

Duncan's Cove Hiking Trail - Halifax Nova Scotia Canada
A very beautiful and very popular short hiking trail near Halifax in the small coastal town of Duncan's Cove. This is an non-maintained, unmarked trail that is very well established due to the number of people who hike the trail. I'm a bit chattier on this video than I usually am for some reason.
The most commonly used trail head is at a gated private driveway with a posted no-trespassing sign. The driveway leads up to the Whalesback house where the overland trail begins. If that makes you uncomfortable there are some other trails through the nature reserve (we enter the trail on one of them.)

Crowbar Lake Hiking - Halifax, Nova Scotia
This challenging, technical hike has over 18km of trails, winding up, down and through a huge wilderness reserve. This particular hike was only a small section of the entire system, as we didn't get started until late in the day. Despite the challenging terrain and elevations, it is a joy to hike due to the unspoiled nature throughout. For more information on this hike, visit:

Terence Bay Wilderness Area - River Road to Little Lake Look-off - Nova Scotia Canada
A short hike into the rather large Terence Bay Wilderness Area that stretches from Terence Bay eastward to West Pennant. This walk is on the west side of the area, near Terence Bay. Out and back was 5km + 1/2km or so of random side trails. No marked trails so do some planning before heading out.
