ALPHONSO OF AFRICA | SAVANA SAFARI | THE GREAT MIGRATION
THE ALPHONSO of AFRICA
Mango is the national fruit of India. Amongst 1500 odd varieties of Indian mangoes Alphonso holds a distinctive position. This is because of its beautiful shape, alluring color, heavenly aroma and unparalleled sweetness. While other mangoes have many of these qualities none have all of these. No wonder Alphonso is priced the highest.
The continent of Africa is famous for its pristine natural beauty and its wildlife. Every year millions of people from across the world visit Africa, mainly Kenya and Tanzania, to watch the wildlife in their natural habitat untouched by civilization. They watch the Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Rhinoceros, Cape Buffalo, Giraffe, and hundreds of other animals and birds. Each of these animals has its own beauty, strength, speed and characteristic for which it is famous. With so many different animals to view one often wonders which animal is unique amongst these. In a way the Giraffe stands out amongst all the wild animals of Africa with its unique features. It is the Alphonso of African wildlife.
Giraffe is unique to Africa and not found in any other continent. About 17 feet tall, weighing 1200 kgs with multicolor coat-marking that appears to be painted is the most peaceful and graceful of African animals. It creates a balmy sight when running across the savannah, from a distance it seems to float in the air. Herbivorous, it does not predate on any animal and lives peacefully on acacia, apricot and mimosa fruits and leaves. An Indian takes pride if he is 6 feet tall surprisingly a giraffe baby is born 6 feet! Predators face difficulty killing a giraffe because of its speed and its vicious kick. Giraffes runs at a speed of 50 km/hr. and when chased kicks with its hind legs that can break the jaw of a lion or even decapitate it.
Drawing a parallel with Alphonso one can say that the Giraffe has great shape, beautiful looks, a sweet and pleasant presence and acts very pricy when chased. So, next time you have an Alphonso mango, just close your eyes, imagine yourself 17 feet tall running across the vast African savannah, bring out the African alphonso in you and kick your kid’s football. For the first time, it would vanish beyond your neighbor’s wall. Turning around you would find yourself smothered in your wife’s Alphonso kisses!! `Naughty boy’!!

Tanzania Safari
Tanzania Trip - Ultimate Safari
Like all African countries, one of the biggest safety concerns is contracting a serious illness whilst you are out there. This can usually be remedied by taking injections before you head out.
If you’re planning on doing a safari, however, you probably don’t even want to spend much time in the cities anyway so minimizing your time there is a win for both safety and maximizing your adventure.
Tanzania, perhaps the home of human civilization itself, is known for the warmth of its many varied people and tribes that settled there from across Africa and the Middle East.
Amazing Africa Wildlife, Tanzania Safari, 4K
With 17 national parks spanning a vast area of 16,000 square miles which are home to 20% of Africa’s mammal species, Tanzania is a richly diverse country that should be on your hit list. Not to mention the biggest beast of all, Kilimanjaro which you might want to consider climbing.
met with local tribes like the Hadzabe, and traveled through Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Eyasi, and Lake Manyara.

Tanzania-Serengeti National Park (part 2)
...viaggio fotografico nel meraviglioso Parco Nazionale del Serengeti in Tanzania...

Discover Serengeti
It was 1913 and great stretches of Africa were still unknown to the white man when Stewart Edward White, an American hunter, set out from Nairobi. Pushing south, he recorded: We walked for miles over burnt out country... Then I saw the green trees of the river, walked two miles more and found myself in paradise.
He had found Serengeti. In the years since White's excursion under the high noble arc of the cloudless African sky, Serengeti has come to symbolize paradise to many of us. The Maasai, who had grazed their cattle on the vast grassy plains for millennia had always thought so. To them it was Siringitu - the place where the land moves on forever.
The Serengeti region encompasses the Serengeti National Park itself, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Maswa Game Reserve, the Loliondo, Grumeti and Ikorongo Controlled Areas and the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya. Over 90,000 tourists visit the Park each year.
Two World Heritage Sites and two Biosphere Reserves have been established within the 30,000 km² region. It's unique ecosystem has inspired writers from Ernest Hemingway to Peter Mattheissen, filmakers like Hugo von Lawick and Alan Root as well as numerous photographers and scientists - many of which have put their works at our disposal to create this website.
The Serengeti ecosystem is one of the oldest on earth. The essential features of climate, vegetation and fauna have barely changed in the past million years. Early man himself made an appearance in Olduvai Gorge about two million years ago. Some patterns of life, death, adaptation and migration are as old as the hills themselves.
It is the migration for which Serengeti is perhaps most famous. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November, and then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May and June. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge or crocodile infested river can hold them back.
The Wildebeest travel through a variety of parks, reserves and protected areas and through a variety of habitat. Join us to explore the different forms of vegetation and landscapes of the Serengeti ecosystem and meet some of their most fascinating inhabitants.
Welcome to the Serengeti.

Africa 2017 Remix
Pictures and video of our trip to Africa in late May 2017.
We traveled from Denver, CO to Washington, DC to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Arusha, Tanzania, over 36 hours of flights and layovers.
After resting at a beautiful lodge outside of Arusha for a couple of nights, we went on safari. We visited Tarangire National Park (2 nights at Ang'ata Tented Camp), then on to the village of Mto Wa Mbu, where we spent a few hours on a guided walking tour and then had a delicious lunch cooked for us and our guides by a local family. Next we stayed one night at Kirurumu Tented Lodge, high above Mto Wa Mbu and overlooking Lake Manyara. We then toured Lake Manyara National Park before moving into the Ngorongoro Conservation area. We hiked along the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater (escorted by an armed ranger) before settling in to our hotel room with a view of the crater from our patio. The next day we spent on the floor of the crater, then another night at our hotel on the rim. Next - on to the Serengeti. We explored several areas of the vast Serengeti National Park, making Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge our home for the rest of our trip. Finally, we flew back to Arusha via bush plane from the Seronera airstrip before returning to the US.
Serengeti National Park - Part 1
▶FULL DOCUMENTARIES |
▶ Spanish video:
The Serengeti National Park is located in the eastern region of Africa between the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria, covering an area of 30,000 km2, is the scene of one of the most spectacular migrations on earth.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of gnus follow the rains in search of pasture, in a cyclical migration which marks the lives of both plants and animals in the regions they cross.
The government of Tanzania, aware of the importance of this migration, decided to give official protection to 17,000 km2 of this region. And so the Serengeti National Park was born
03.14
There are six different species of vulture in the Serengeti. The bearded vulture and the white-headed vulture are not only scavengers but also predators, and are capable of eating muscle and hard tissue, thanks to their powerful beaks. They then leave way for the white-back vulture and the roppel who, with their long, featherless necks, can reach right down into the entrails. Finally, the hooded vulture and the Egyptian vulture will clear up anything left on the body or on the ground.
From a great distance, the vultures can be seen landing, and this helps scavengers on land find the dead bodies.
Thanks to its tremendous speed, the cheetah is the most successful feline hunter in the Serengeti. However, with the advantage of speed comes the lack of strength to fight off lions and hyenas and, whenever they can, they will snatch his food from him.
This herbivore, the Thompson's gazelle, makes up 90% of the cheetah’s diet, and he will join them on their annual migration. Wherever they go, he follows in pursuit.
The gazelles follow the herds of gnus as they cross the savannah. The gnu represents less than 5% of the cheetah's diet, but he is nonetheless very much affected by their migrations.
Life in the Serengeti is influenced by the migrations of the gnus, but is ultimately determined by the rains.
In the northern region of the Serengeti, the landscape changes. The vast, open plains give way to trees, and instead of the short, resistant grasses, we find other types, growing up to two metres high.
The animals, too, are different here.
A leopard. This cat prefers trees to empty spaces. The trees can be used as watchtowers, and provide shelter and a safe place, out of reach of the lions and hyenas, where he can hide the animals he has hunted down. His rate of success in hunting is much lower than that of the cheetah, and he simply can't afford to have his food stolen.
On the western edge of the park, the Grumeti river has its own particular ecosystem. This is the land of the hippopotamus. They are nocturnal animals, dozing during the day, and making the most of the cool of night to eat the 60kg of grass they need every day. As the temperature rises, they move and find rest and relief in the water.
It may not look like it, but the hippopotamus' skin is very sensitive to the sun. When they are not submerged in the water, they have to cover themselves in mud, to protect themselves from the harmful rays.
Of all the predators in the Serengeti, only one is feared by the hyenas. This is the largest, and most powerful of all - the lion.
Stealing food is normal in the Serengeti. The lions steal from the hyenas, the hyenas from the cheetahs, and the leopards hide their food in the trees to prevent it from being taken.
