Agas-Agas Bridge in Southern Leyte // The TALLEST Bridge in the Philippines
The Agas-Agas Bridge is a prestressed concrete beam bridge on the Pan-Philippine Highway. The ₱1.024-billion bridge was funded partially by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. With a length of about 350 meters (1,150 feet) and a height of 292 feet (89 meters) above ground,[2] the center span of the structure measures 177 meters (581 feet) in length supported by two piers measuring 241 foot (73 meters) and 246 foot (75 meters) from the ground.[3]
The mountainous Agas-Agas section of the Pan-Philippine Highway in Southern Leyte is prone to landslides during heavy rains, much more when a typhoon strikes the province. The bridge was constructed in 2006 to avoid the troublesome section and cut down the driving time for motorists.[4]
Seeing its high tourism potential the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) submitted to President Gloria Arroyo the plan to turn the bridge into a haven for enthusiasts of bungee jumping, paramotor, downhill skateboarding, zip-line, rappelling and other extreme sports. On August 9, 2009, the president signed the construction of the bungee jumping platform along the bridge as well as other tourism amenities.

SOUTHERN LEYTE - Agas-Agas Bridge + Maasin
Agas-Agas bridge is the highest in the Philippines and is now more popular because of its zipline. Maasin City is a fourth class municipality which boasts a Spanish colonial era cathedral and a giant statue of the Virgin Mary. Both are located at Southern Leyte.
Agas-agas Zipline and Bridge (Tallest Bridge in the Philippines)
Located in Southern Leyte, Philippines. Agas-agas Bridge is currently the Tallest Bridge in the Philippines.
Zipline:
THE Agas-Agas Bridge Zipline Adventure was officially launched Friday (April 15, 2011) letting everyone experience soaring at a high speed, flying by wire like Superman did in the movies.
Newsmen from all over Eastern Visayas, including some known tour operators, were treated by the organizers for a day of free rides with a briefing that, the Southern Leyte province will be known as the central of adventure destination in Eastern Visayas.
Constructed between two mountains, the Agas-Agas Bridge Zipline or locally known as Zipline Leyte offers an extra-ordinary experience on cable rides that traverse the Mahaplag-Sogod section of the Tacloban-Liloan Road giving a rider a full view of the breathtaking panorama with the bridge's sky-scraping height.
The organizers led by Governor Damian Mercado are hopeful that the opening would bring in more tourists.
The potential of the bridge, which provides a significant link to motorists traveling from Luzon to Mindanao, was noted when it was inaugurated two years ago and endorsed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to turn it into a haven for sports enthusiasts who are into bungee jumping, paramotor, downhill skateboarding and zipline rappelling and other extreme sports.
According to a DPWH official, this bridge is by far the tallest pier or column that the government has constructed. It involves the construction of a 350 linear meter bridge, with a mix of steel and concrete, supported by two piers from the ground and has a height of 292 feet above ground.
Meanwhile, ziplines in the country are fast drawing a big crowd of action and adventure seekers from all over the world.
The extraordinary thrill of being suspended on a cable at considerable heights or the joy of zipping through the woods at a high speed makes ziplines an action-packed activity.
The zipline in Southern Leyte is the third zipline attractions in Eastern Visayas.
Recently, the Caluwayan Island Resort in Marabut Samar and the Leyte Park Resort in Tacloban City officially offered a zipline adventures to its adventure-seeking clients.
Known as a flying fox, foefie slide, zip wire, aerial runway, or aerial rope slide, a zipline consists of a pulley suspended on a cable mounted on an incline.
It is designed to enable a user propelled by gravity to traverse from the top to the bottom of the inclined cable, usually made of stainless steel, by holding on or attaching to the freely moving pulley. Ziplines are used in varied ways and come in various forms.
While others used it as a means of amusement and entertainment, others showcase ziplines as an adventure activity option. Accessing remote areas, such as a rainforest canopy would require longer and higher rides. (Leyte Samar Daily Express)

I visited the once promising tourist spot but politics did not serve its purpose and promise of uplifting the lives of the locals.. What a waste..
Nevertheless, its wonders can not be denied.
The ziplines which gave its needed boom is now abandoned which gave me an eerie feeling when I went to the launching area..
Rain slowed my travel and gave me difficulty but the reward upon seeing the breathtaking scenic view is unbelievable..

180KM Ride Palo to Maasin City // Passing the Quietest Road in the Philippines
A provincial road that traverses the mountain ranges of this city and connects to the municipality of Bontoc has all the potentials to become a major roadmap for development in the fields of agriculture, tourism, and economic growth.
The Lunas, Maasin up to Paku, Bontoc road section, a 30-kilometer (km) long, winding secondary highway network, has been concreted, piecemeal, since 2007 up to the present. The road, nonetheless, give travelers ease and comfort.
“This road, when fully concreted, will dramatically cut short travel time for people and goods coming from the Pacific and Panaon areas of the province in reaching Maasin, and vice-versa,” said Cong. Roger Mercado, the main proponent for this dream link.
At present, there are two existing highways for passengers to select, the Maasin-Malitbog-Sogod route, and the Maasin-Bato-Sogod side, the former longer by 65 km, the latter a little shorter at around 55 kilometers.
The 30-km Lunas, Maasin, to Paku, Bontoc road apparently presents a viable alternative for the shortest of distance.
Passenger vans and buses, however, cannot as yet negotiate the potential cross-country shortcut because about half of the entire length have yet to be concreted, some sections have muddy terrains, and there are great expanse of areas with no houses along the roadsides just yet.
But in some future time, all that may become a thing of the past once the entire stretch can be cemented, plus some exciting possibilities are currently happening which may develop the Lunas-Paku highway, turning it around as the trigger for the province’ inclusive growth.
At the Maasin side, the new, much bigger provincial hospital situated at Barangay Dongon lies along this highway, so emergency patients can have faster access to treatment using the interior road, with the hospital targeted to be operational in a year or two.
Those with transactions at the provincial capitol will find better use of the new highway, since the seat of the province is at the tail end of the journey.
Lunas, the last barangay of Maasin in which the road was named, is the site of the People’s Organization YISEDA – Young Innovators for Social, Economic Development Association.
This PO has transformed the balding expanse of the remaining forests that straddles the five sitios of Lunas with trees in coordination with GIZ, a German-government organization and other non-government groups.
At the Bontoc side, the next barangay after Pacu is barangay Mahayahay, site and home to many freshwater ulang or shrimps owned by a municipal councilor, Adriano Idjao.
This barangay will be the catalyst to put Southern Leyte on the map as the ulang capital of the Philippines, as envisioned by researchers at the Southern Leyte State University – Bontoc Campus, which organized its highly successful and impressive first International Freshwater Ulang Congress and Festival January 10 and 11.
And the whole stretch of the Lunas-Paku highway, has been energized, meaning from end to end, electric lines of the Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative (Soleco) stand ready to serve.
