Founded by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, a Turkish army officer, revolutionary, and the first President of Turkey, the Izmir Atatürk Museum opened to the public on 11 September 1941, on the 19th anniversary of Atatürk’s arrival in Izmir. On 13 May 1988 it was officially named the Izmir Atatürk Museum, which it is called today.
The building is on Atatürk Boulevard and it was built in between 1875-1880 by a carpet merchant, Takfor, as a resident. It was nationalized after being 'abandoned' by its Greek owner on 9 September 1922. After entering Izmir, the Turkish Army used the building as its headquarters.

İzmir Travel Guide - Turkey Amazing Atmosphere
İzmir Travel Guide - Turkey Amazing Atmosphere
Izmir is the third largest city in Turkey with a population of around 4 million, the second biggest port after Istanbul, and a very good transport hub. The fact that almost half of its population of 4 million are under the age of 30, makes İzmir a city full of life. The city hosts tens of thousands of university students, educates scientists, artists, business leaders and academics. It is a rapidly growing city on the Central Aegean coast of Turkey.
Once the ancient city of Smyrna, İzmir is now a modern, developed, and busy commercial center, set around a huge bay and surrounded by mountains. The broad boulevards, glass-fronted buildings and modern shopping centers are dotted with traditional red-tiled roofs, the 18th century market, and old mosques and churches, although the city has an atmosphere more of Mediterranean Europe than traditional Turkey.
İzmir owes its position as an economically and socially dynamic city to its location, climate and the fact that it has been a home to many different cultures and religions. Persians, Ancient Greeks, Assyrians, Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans are just a few of the dozens of different civilizations that the city has hosted throughout its long history.
Due to its geographical location, similar climatic features are observed in almost every part of the province. Since the average number of sunny days reaches up to almost 300 a year, the solar potential is very high in İzmir.
Public ferries are easy, fast inside the coast and gives a nice shot of Izmir. Preferable to every other transportation in nice weather. Popular routes include; Konak-Karsiyaka, Alsancak-Karsiyaka, Konak-Bostanli and Karsiyaka-Goztepe. There is an extensive public bus system which covers all of the city. Many taxis with reasonable price. There is also a metro line connecting city centre/Konak Square with the northeastern suburb of Bornova.
Izmir is a member of World Gourmet Cities Network (DELICE), a network with 22 cities from different parts of the world. Became a member in 2015, Izmir is the 23rd city in the network. In Izmir there are many hotels which are suitable for all tastes and budgets. Hilton, Swissotel and Movenpick are just a few minutes away by foot from Cumhuriyet Meydani (Republic Square) Hotel Ibis is very close to the city center, located nearby Alsancak Railway Station. Also there is Crowne Plaza, which is about 30 min. from center.
Standing on Mount Yamanlar, the tomb of Tantalus was excavated by Charles Texier in 1835 and is an example of the historic traces in the region prior to the Hellenistic Age, along with those found in nearby Kemalpaşa and Mount Sipylus. The Agora of Smyrna is well preserved, and is arranged into the Agora Open Air Museum of İzmir, although important parts buried under modern buildings wait to be brought to light. Serious consideration is also being given to uncovering the ancient theatre of Smyrna where St. Polycarp was martyred, buried under an urban zone on the slopes of Kadifekale.
One of the more pronounced elements of İzmir's harbor is the Clock Tower, a marble tower in the middle of the Konak district, standing 25 m (82 ft) in height. It was designed by Levantine French architect Raymond Charles Père in 1901 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the ascension of Abdülhamid II to the Ottoman throne in 1876. The clock's workings were given as a gift by the German Kaiser Wilhelm II, a political ally of Abdülhamid II.

TURKEY: IZMIR (ΣΜΥΡΝΗ) & the Historic KADIFEKALE CASTLE, built by ALEXANDER THE GREAT ????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go visit the beautiful and very historic Kadifekale Castle which lies on a mountain in the center of the city of Izmir in Turkey. The summit where the castle is found is located at a distance of about 2 km from the shoreline and commands a general view of a large part of the city of İzmir, as well as of the Gulf of İzmir.
The first recorded defensive walls built here was the work of Lysimachos, a successor (diadochus) of Alexander the Great. The construction of the fort was associated with Alexander's re-foundation of Smyrna, moving it from Old Smyrna on a mound in the southeastern corner of the inner gulf where only a few thousand people could be accommodated. This move for the location of a new and larger city gained fame in a legend told by Pausanias, according to which Alexander, during a rest after hunting under a plane tree near the sanctuary on the hill of the two Nemeseis worshipped by the Smyrneans, was approached during his sleep by the goddesses who bade him found a city on that very spot, transferring to it the inhabitants of the earlier site.

Hierapolis Ancient City Amphitheatre in Turkey
Hierapolis Ancient City is located at 24 km to Denizli and was founded by the Bergama King Eumenes II on 190 B.C. The city was named after “Hiera” who was the beautiful wife of the legendry hero Telefos and it also means “holy city”. The ancient city of Hierapolis, the original site of Pamukkale, was known as the Holy City in archaeological literature because of the abundance of temples and other religious structures in the area.
The city has traces of the Hellenistic period and was sized by Romans together with Bergama on 133 B.C. It was completely ruined down with a strong earthquake on 17 B.C. at the time of the Roman Empire Tiberius. Then the city was re-built and given a total Roman character. The city lived its golden age under the reign of the Roman Empire Septemius Severus during the 2nd and 3rd centuries A.D. and became a summer time living area for the elites of the Roman Empire.
The Hierapolis pools, necropolis, streets, agora, city doors, gymnasium, antars, Ionian columns, bridges, and churches are worth to see and its theatre with a capacity of 9.000 has a charming atmosphere.
Ancient Roman amphitheatres were oval or circular in plan, with seating tiers that surrounded the central performance area, like a modern open-air stadium. In contrast both ancient Greek and ancient Roman theatres were built in a semicircle, with tiered seating rising on one side of the performance area. In modern usage, amphitheater is sometimes used to describe theatre-style stages with spectator seating on only one side, theatres in the round, and stadiums. Natural formations of similar shape are sometimes known as natural amphitheatres.

city of heaven : İzmir
Standing on Mount Yamanlar (Dağı), the tomb of Tantalus is an example of the tholos type monumental tombs. The grave room of Tantalus' tumulus was in the plan of the fountain, displaying a style called isopata, meaning the construction has a rectangle plan, covered by vaults made with a corbel technique. This monumental work is thought to be the tomb of the Basileus or Tyrant who ruled ancient Smyrna in 580-520 BC.
Oteller Street in the historic Basmane neighbourhoodOne of the more pronounced elements of Izmir harbor is the Clock Tower, a beautiful marble tower that rests in the middle of the Konak district, standing 25 meters in height. It was designed by the Levantine French architect Raymond Charles Père in 1901 for the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the ascension of Abdülhamid II. The clock workings themselves were given as a gift to the then Ottoman Empire by Kaiser Wilhelm II. The tower features four fountains which are placed around the base in a circular pattern, and the columns are inspired by North African themes.
The Agora of Smyrna is well preserved, and is arranged into the Agora Open Air Museum of İzmir, although important parts buried under modern buildings, waiting to be brought to daylight. Serious consideration is also being given to uncovering the ancient theatre of Smyrna where St. Polycarp was martyred, buried under an urban zone on the slopes of Kadifekale. It was distinguishable until the 19th century, as evident by the sketchings done at the time. On top of the same hill soars an ancient castle which is one of the landmarks of İzmir.
The Kemeraltı bazaar zone set up by the Ottomans, combined with the Agora, rests near the slopes of Kadifekale. İzmir has had three castles historically- Kadifekale (Pagos), the portuary Ok Kalesi (Neon Kastron, St. Peter), and Sancakkale, which remained vital to İzmir's security for centuries. Sancakkale is situated in the present-day İnciraltı quarter between Balçova and Narlıdere districts, on the southern shore of the Gulf of İzmir. It is at a key point where the strait allows entry into the innermost tip of the Gulf at its narrowest, and due to shallow waters through a large part of this strait, ships have sailed close to the castle. [12]
There are nine synagogues in İzmir, concentrated either in the traditional Jewish quarter of Karataş or in Havra Sokak (Synagogue street) in Kemeraltı, and they all bear the signature of the 19th century when they were built or re-constructed in depth on the basis of former buildings.
The İzmir Birds Paradise in Çiğli, a bird sanctuary near Karşıyaka, contains 205 species of birds. There are 63 species of domestic birds, 54 species of summer migratory birds, 43 species of winter migratory birds, 30 species of transit birds. 56 species of birds have been breeding in the Park. İzmir Bird's Paradise which covers 80 square kilometres was registered as The protected area for water birds and for their breeding by Ministry of Forestry in 1982.

IZMIR -- EXPO 2020 Candidate City
EXPO 2020 İZMİR
Imagine a land surrounded by the ancient seas of the world... A peninsula straddling two continents in the East and West... A passage uniting North and South...
Motherland to 36 known civilizations including Hittites, Phrygians, Lydians, Trojans, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks and Ottomans... A center of innovation since time immemorial... The first international treaty to be signed, the first coins to change hands, the first temple to be worshipped in, and the first hospital to cure a patient all originated in this region. Trade, through the silk and spice roads left its mark on this land.
It was a birthplace for Abraham, a sanctuary for early Christians and a home to Rumi, the Sufi mystic.
Turkey...
Born as a democratic, secular and constitutional republic under the leadership of Atatürk, modern Turkey was founded on values ahead of its time. Women gained the right to vote and to be elected to government in 1934, many years before it was a common practice in the West. In less than a century, Turkey has given rise to many influential artists, musicians, writers, poets, directors, scholars, scientists and athletes.
It has a young population of 74 million people, 60% of which are below the age of 35. The people of Turkey are well-educated and highly skilled, giving the country great prospects in terms of its future economic development. As of the first half of 2011, Turkey is the 16th largest economy in the world and 6th largest in Europe with a rapid development rate of 9%. According to UN's World Investment Report, Turkey is one of the top 15 destinations for foreign direct investment. In the western extremity of Turkey, where the Silk Road meets the Aegean, lies the western port of Anatolia, a cultural capital and a trade center that dates back 8,500 years... Herodotus claimed that It has the best climate and the most beautiful sky in the world. Victor Hugo called it A princess. This is İzmir.
In the 5th century BC, Darius the Great built the famous 2700 kilometer long Persian Royal Road to reach this city. The temple built in 356 BC for the goddess Artemis, became one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Saint John wrote one of the four gospels of Christianity in Ayasuluk Hill. In 135 AD, the son of Celsus, built a library consisting of over 12,000 scrolls, and named it for his father, a scholarly governor known for his passion for knowledge, science and arts. The most important healing center of the 4th century BC, named after the ancient god of medicine and healing, Asclepius, was built here in Pergamon. The fame of İzmir's thermals, hot water mud baths and mineral springs date back to 5th century BC. King Agamemnon used them to treat his wounded soldiers. Today, these thermal centers are popular destinations not only for those in search of better health, but for anyone who wants to be pampered.
Nature lovers flock to İzmir, which is home to the globally renowned Bird Paradise, a national park with striking biodiversity. The Gediz Delta is considered as one of the world's most remarkable natural areas, an open-air museum with breathtaking landscapes
With exquisite beaches and natural bays covering a coastal belt of more than 600 kilometers around Çeşme, Alaçatı and Foça, İzmir fascinates sailing enthusiasts as well as international cruise ships. Alaçatı has excellent atmospheric conditions attracting windsurfers from all over the world. Contained along these coasts are many Blue-Flag beaches, a testament to İzmir's commitment to protecting the natural environment.
The city is a major tourist destination hosting many international hotel chains. Developments are underway to increase İzmir's ability to accomodate tourists by more than eightfold in 2020. Situated between Europe, Asia and the Middle East, the Aegean region is equipped with a network of international-quality highways and the nation's largest railway network.

Izmir is a city on Turkey’s Aegean coast. Known as Smyrna in antiquity, it was founded by the Greeks, taken over by the Romans and rebuilt by Alexander the Great before becoming part of the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. Today, its expansive archaeological sites include the Roman Agora of Smyrna, now an open-air museum. The hilltop Kadifekale, or Velvet Castle, built during Alexander’s reign, overlooks the city.
