इस किले के भीतरी हिस्से में एक दरवाजा भी है, जो बताया जाता है कि इसके नीचे भी 5 मंजिला और किला है।
इस किले पर वास्तविक अधिकार खरवार शासकों का था, बाद में इस किले पर चंदेल वंश के शासकों ने अपना अधिपत्य जमा लिया।
इस किले को आदिवासी किला भी कहा जाता है, क्योकि इस किले के अंतिम शासक एक आदिवासी राजा ही थे।
यह किला विजुल, रेणु, और सोन नदी से भी घिरा हुआ है ।
इसे हमले से सुरक्षित बनाने के लिहाज से इसके तीनो तरफ नदी के सिरो पर बनाया गया था ।
यह किला सोनभद्र जिले के चोपन से 10 किलोमीटर दूर सोन नदी के किनारे पर स्थित है।

The Chunar Fort is a massive structure which stands at a height of 80 meters from the ground level. According to legends it is believed that the legendary King Vikramaditya of Ujjain who was also the founder of Vikrama era established this fort to honour the stay of his brother King Bhartrihari who was a well-known philosopher. This magnificent fort is spread over an area of 3400 sq. There are also a Samadhi of King Bhartrihari, an ancient well, Sonva Mandap, Bavan Khambha, Bungalow of Warren Hastings and a Sun Dial. One can also see about 1500 years old rock-cut images of Lord Vishnu and other deities on the face of the western cliff-section of the fort hillock.

Sonwa Mandap has four gates and a tunnel at the front yard of the building. It is mentioned that in 1333 AD, princess Sonwa, daughter of Sandeva, a Nepali king, came here frequently to take baths in the Ganga River through this tunnel. The access is from the fort

चुनारगढ़ का तिलिस्मी किला |चन्द्रकान्ता उपन्यास का रहस्यमयी किला|Talismanic & Mystery of Chunar Fort
चुनारगढ़ किला भारत कि ऐतिहासिक विरासत है यह एक अनमोल धरोहर है।चुनारगढ़ किले का इतिहास में एक महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है यह किला लगभग 5000वर्षों के इतिहास का गवाह है ।जिस पहाड़ी इस किला स्थित है उस पहाड़ी कि प्राकृतिक संरचना मानव चरण के आकार कि है इसलिये इसका एक नाम चरणाद्रिगढ़ भी है इस किले का इतिहास महाभारत काल से भी प्राचीन है। इस किले पर महाभारत काल के सम्राट काल्यवन,सम्पूर्ण विश्व पर शासन करने वाले उज्जैन के प्रतापि सम्राट विक्रमादित्य ,हिन्दु धर्म के अन्तिम सम्राट प्रिथ्वीराज चौहान से लेकर सम्राट अकबर शेरसाह सुरी जैसे शासकों ने शासन किया है। चुनारगढ़ किले का निर्माण किस शासक ने कराया है इसका कोई प्रमाण नहीं है इतिहासकारों के अनुसार महाभारत काल में इस पहाड़ी पर सम्राट काल्यवन का कारागार (जेल )था |महाभारत काल के बाद का समय सम्राट विक्रमादित्य का समय माना जाता है। सम्राट विक्रमादित्य के बड़े भाई राजा भतृहरि राजपाठ का त्याग करके सन्यासी हो गये। भतृहरि गुरु गोरखनाथ के शिष्य थे श्री भतृहरि गुरु गोरखनाथ से ज्ञान लेने के बाद चुनारगढ़ आये और तपस्या करने लगे। उस समय इस स्थान पर घना जंगल था जंगल में हिंसक जंगली जानवर रहते थे इसलिए सम्राट विक्रमादित्य ने योगीराज भतृहरी कि रक्षा के लिये इस स्थान जिर्णोद्धार कराकर एक किले का निर्माण कराया ।
योगीराज भतृहरी इसी किले में समाधिस्थ हुए आज भी इस किले में उनकी समाधि है।ऐसा माना जाता है कि योगीराज भतृहरी कि आत्मा आज भी इस पर्वत पर विराजमान है।चुनारगढ़ कि धरती पर अनेक तपस्वीयो ने तपस्या किया है। यह पर्वत (किला )योगीराज भतृहरी कि साधना भगवान बुद्ध के चातुर्मास नैना योगीनी के योग का गवाह है।नैनायोगीनी के कारण ही इसका एक नाम नैनागढ़ भी है।चुनारगढ़ किले ने अनेक उतार चढ़ाव देखे हैं।समय के साथ साथ तत्कालीन शासकों ने इस पहाड़ी पर अलग अलग शैलियों में समय कि आवश्यकतानुसार निर्माण कराया।वर्तमान समय में इस किले को अत्यधिक प्रसिद्धि बाबू देवकीनन्दन खत्री द्वारा रचित प्रसिद्ध तिलिस्मी उपन्यास चन्द्रकान्ता संतति के कारण मिली।चन्द्रकान्ता उपन्यास का केन्द्र बिन्दु चुनारगढ़ है।चन्द्रकान्ता एक अद्भुत रचना है इसमें कोई शक नहीं है चन्द्रकान्ता के उपन्यास का आधार तिलिस्म है तिलिस्म ही इस उपन्यास कि आत्मा है चन्द्रकान्ता उपन्यास में चुनारगढ़ किले के बारे में सबसे अधिक वर्णन किया गया है।
दोस्तों मैं यहाँ एक बात स्पष्ट कर देना चाहता हुं चुनारगढ़ किले से चन्द्रकान्ता उपन्यास में वर्णित कहानी, तिलिस्म ,और किरदारों तारा शिवदत्त भूतनाथ आदि का दूर दूर तक कोई सम्बन्ध नहीं है यह एक काल्पनिक कहानी काल्पनिक तिलिस्म और काल्पनिक किरदार हैं। चन्द्रकान्ता एक अच्छे उपन्यासकार कि बेहतरीन रचना है चन्द्रकान्ता उपन्यास का चुनारगढ़ किले से कोई सम्बन्ध नही है।
चुनारगढ़ के तिलिस्म कि हकीकत कुछ और है यह तिलिस्मि किला या स्थान वैसा बिल्कुल भी नहीं जैसा चन्द्रकान्ता उपन्यास में वर्णन किया गया है या टेलीविजन सीरियल में दिखाया गया है।चुनारगढ़ किले के वास्तविक तिलिस्म का चन्द्रकान्ता उपन्यास के काल्पनिक तिलिस्म से दूर दूर किसी तरह का कोई सम्बन्ध नहीं है|चुनारगढ़ भारत का सबसे बड़ा तिलिस्मि और रहस्यमयी किला है इसका प्रमाण इसकी बनावट है इस किले को ध्यान से देखने पर हीं इस किले के तिलिस्म को समझा जा सकता है बलुआ पत्थर से निर्मित चुनारगढ़ के इस किले के हर पत्थर पर किसी न किसी तरह चिन्ह या संकेत है एक अजीब सी भाषा लिखी हुयी है जिसे आज इस आधुनिक यग में पढ़ना या समझना मुश्किल है। इसलिए कहा गया है जिसका जर्रा जर्रा तिलिस्मि है उसका नाम चुनारगढ़ है |पत्थर के इस किले में कई विशाल गहरीऔर रहस्मयी सुरंगों का मुहाना है जिसकी सीमाओं का कोई पता नहीं है चुनारगढ किले में सुरंगों का एक जाल सा बिछा हैचुनारनगर के निचे कई जगह इसके प्रमाण आज भी मौजूद है एवं समय समय पर इसके संकेत मिलते है इसके अलावा इस किले में कई गहरे तहखाने है जो कि गुप्त रुप रास्तों से एवं एक दुसरे से जुड़े है।
सबसे बड़ा रहस्य इसमें छुपे हुये खजाने को लेकर है यह एक बहुत बड़ा सत्य है की खजाना इसी किले में कहीं सुरक्षित है। इस किले का एक महत्वपूर्ण नकशा भी है जो किसी के यहाँ कैद है नक्शे को लेकर कई प्रभालशाली राजनैतिक लोगों के बिच आपसी तनातनी भी हुयी जो कि इस किले कि दुर्दशा का एक बहुत बड़ा कारण है। ना जाने कितने लोगों ने लोभ और लालच में आकर अपने जान हाथ धो बैठे । किले कई सारे खतरनाक स्थान है ।
भारत कि आजादी के बाद इसके कई खतरनाक गुप्त दरवाजों सुरंगों मुहानो को बन्द कर गया । ऐसे बहुत सारे आश्चर्य यहां इस किले में कैद है कुछ का तो पता है कुछ का तो एकदम दफ्न है इस के बहुत सारे रहस्यों को छुपाया दिया गया है इस किले का सही इतिहास किसी को मालूम नहीं है सबका जिक्र नहीं कर सकता कम शब्दों में अपनी बात समाप्त कर रहा हुं।भारत कि आजादी के बाद चुनारगढ़ किले के वास्तविक स्वरूप को बहुत ज्यादा नुकसान हुआ है इसका सबसे बड़ा कारण है किले पर P.A.C.का अवैध कब्जा ,लगभग 50वर्षों से इस किले पर P A C का अवैध कब्जा है। पुरा किला तबाह कर दिया हैP A C ने । हर सरकार इस किले के प्रति उदासीनता दिखाई है। एक ऐसा किला जिसने कई युग देखे जो भारत के गौरवशाली इतिहास का गवाह है वह किला वर्तमान समय में अपनी दुर्दशा पर आंसू बहा रहा है। चुनारगढ़ हम सबकी मातृभूमि है चुनारगढ़ कि पवित्र भूमि पर यह ऐतिहासिक विरासत कराह रहा है आवश्यकता है इसको संरक्षित करने कि सुरक्षित करने कि।
