San-nouji Terraced Rice Fields - Shimane - 山王寺の棚田
The terraced rice fields of San-nouji, are the pride and joy of Shimane residents and are considered some of Japan’s best. With about 200 rice paddies stretched out over a hillside landscape 300 meters above sea level, San-nouji terraced rice fields are also a place for people to experience farming activities such as planting and harvesting rice thanks to a local initiative in the form of a “Tanbo No Gakko” or agriculture school.

Shimane Prefecture
Shimane Prefecture is a prefecture of Japan located in the Chūgoku region on the main Honshu island. The capital is Matsue. It is the second least populous prefecture in Japan, after its eastern neighbor Tottori. The prefecture has an area elongated from east to west facing the Chūgoku Mountain Range on the south side and to the Sea of Japan on the north side. It is divided into the Izumo Region in the East, the Iwami Region in the West and the Oki Region, a small group of islands off the northern coast. Most of the cities are near the shoreline of the Sea of Japan. Izumo Taisha in Izumo City is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan.
The Oki Islands in the Sea of Japan are also part of Shimane Prefecture, which also claims to have jurisdiction over the South Korea-controlled island of Liancourt Rocks, Japanese: Takeshima(竹島)).

Through her original songs, international performances and work as a goodwill ambassador, Suzue strives to inspire others to work towards harmony and peace.
Singer/Songwriter
Music and dance, in the form of kagura, have long been intimately tied with Shinto beliefs in Japan. Shinto priestess Rev. Suzue carries on this ancient tradition, bringing the musical celebration of nature and life into the 21st century through her original songs and uplifting voice. Her performances have been enjoyed by thousands, from Carnegie Hall in New York City to Brazil, Russia and beyond. Suzue has served as a goodwill ambassador, using her music to break down barriers between people and inspire a universal appreciation and love for life.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
