Black Poverty, Disinfranchisement, and HUD Housing - Cairo, Illinois and Lowndes County, Alabama
For many Black Americans, generational poverty has been so rampant, that many of our neighborhoods resemble third world Countires. In many places, the deteroration of the infrastructure has rendered homes hazardous, toxic, and determintal to the health of the families who live there.
Meanwhile, the Congressional Black Caucus and other Black politicians continue to fight for the rights of illegal immigrants, while ignoring the Black people who live in their districts and voted them into office, thus causing those people to be excluded from any chance of obtaining stability in their lives.
But they want to talk about DACA though.........
Shocking video shows brazen shooting in broad daylight in Fairfield
Warning: graphic content:
A 28-year-old man gunned down at a Fairfield gas station in March was apparently killed in a dispute over an engagement ring, and the brutal shooting was captured on store surveillance video.
Adarius Elon Williams, a father of four who celebrated a birthday the day before he was killed, died April 8 in the parking lot of the Citgo station on Milstead Road. Vincent Washington, 25, and Barbara Washington, 31, are charged with murder in Williams’ death. Additionally, Vincent Washington is charged with first-degree kidnapping because the woman who drove him to the gas station said she wanted to leave, and he threatened her with her life.
The Washington siblings, who lost their own sister to murder last year, are set to be in court this afternoon for their preliminary hearings. AL.com has obtained the store surveillance video of the killing, which shows a man with a towel wrapped around his head – identified by police as Vincent Washington – shoot Williams multiple times, nine of those shots fired almost point-blank after while Williams had already collapsed on the ground. Police have said Williams was not armed. According to police and court records, the brother and sister told a friend of Barbara Washington they would buy her gas if she drove them to the Citgo station that day. They were going to meet Williams because he wanted the engagement ring back that he had given to Barbara Washington. Williams’ fiancé at the time of his death was also with him at the gas station the day he was killed.
The friend drove them to the service station, but told police she didn’t know what was going to happen. Once they arrived there, Vincent Washington got out of the car with a towel wrapped around his head. When the friend realized something was amiss, she said she wanted to leave. At that point, according to court records, Vincent Washington told her, “(Expletive), if you drive off I’ll shoot you in the back of the head.”
The friend said she was afraid, and did what she was told to do. The video shows Washington and Williams arguing outside of the vehicle for about 12 seconds, and then Washington opens fire on Williams. Williams fell to the ground on his back, and Washington stood over him and fired nine more shots.
Witnesses on the scene gave a description of a white Nissan Altima leaving the area. They said the vehicle was occupied by two females and a male. A short time later, Bessemer police said, a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the stomach and the hand showed up at UAB West, and a white vehicle reportedly had brought him there.
Authorities confirmed that man – later identified as Vincent Washington - at the hospital was involved in the Fairfield shooting. About 8 p.m., Fairfield police spotted the white Altima and stopped the vehicle. Barbara Washington and another woman were taken into custody. The second woman wasn’t charged.
After the shooting, according to court records, Barbara Washington took the gun used in the slaying to a friend’s house to hide it.
At some point during the incident, Vincent Washington was also shot by someone trying to help Williams. Police have never said who shot the suspect. He spent several days in the hospital before he was released and booked into the Jefferson County Jail. Both of the siblings have remained jailed since then with bond set at $60,000.
Bill Veitch, the district attorney in Jefferson County’s Bessemer Cutoff, confirmed he has seen the video and said it shows the urgency needed in stopping the violence. “Any of us could have been out there at those gas pumps that day,’’ Veitch said. “This war on violence cannot be won unless the communities unite, tear down the walls that have built between us and see, hear and report.”
“It’s going to take a great deal of individual courage to become involved in this struggle,’’ he said. “Join with me and our law enforcement officers, our churches, our judges, to fight these heartless hoodlums. This video is graphic evidence of how great this epidemic has become.”

Driving Downtown Streets - Euclid Avenue - Cleveland Ohio USA - Episode 68
Starting Point: .
Euclid Avenue is a major street in Cleveland, Ohio. It received nationwide attention from the 1860s to the 1920s for its beauty and wealth, including a string of mansions that came to be known as Millionaires' Row. There are several theaters, banks, and churches along Euclid, as well as Cleveland's oldest extant building, the Dunham Tavern. A large reconstruction project, which brought a bus rapid transit line to the street, was completed in 2008.
The street passes Playhouse Square, the University Circle, Cleveland State University, the Cleveland Clinic, Severance Hall, Tifereth Israel (The Temple), Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Case Medical Center. The HealthLine bus rapid transit line runs in designated bus lanes in the median of Euclid Avenue from Public Square to Louis Stokes Station at Windermere in East Cleveland.
Cleveland is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Cuyahoga County, the most populous county in the state. The city is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie, approximately 60 miles (100 kilometers) west of the Pennsylvania border. It was founded in 1796 near the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, and became a manufacturing center owing to its location on the lake shore, as well as being connected to numerous canals and railroad lines. Cleveland's economy has diversified sectors that include manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, and biomedical. Cleveland is also home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Tourism
Five miles (8.0 km) east of downtown Cleveland is University Circle, a 550-acre (2.2 km2) concentration of cultural, educational, and medical institutions, including the Cleveland Botanical Garden, Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals, Severance Hall, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Western Reserve Historical Society. A 2011 study by Walk Score ranked Cleveland 17th most walkable of fifty largest U.S. cities. Cleveland is home to the I. M. Pei-designed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, located on the Lake Erie waterfront at North Coast Harbor downtown. Neighboring attractions include Cleveland Browns Stadium, the Great Lakes Science Center, the Steamship Mather Museum, and the USS Cod, a World War II submarine. Cleveland has an attraction for visitors and fans of A Christmas Story: A Christmas Story House and Museum to see props, costumes, rooms, photos and other materials related to the Jean Shepherd film. Cleveland is home to many festivals throughout the year. Cultural festivals such as the annual Feast of the Assumption in the Little Italy neighborhood, the Harvest Festival in the Slavic Village neighborhood, and the more recent Cleveland Asian Festival in the Asia Town neighborhood are popular events. Vendors at the West Side Market in Ohio City offer many different ethnic foods for sale. Cleveland hosts an annual parade on Saint Patrick's Day that brings hundreds of thousands to the streets of downtown.
Fashion Week Cleveland, the city's annual fashion event, is the third-largest fashion show of its kind in the United States. In addition to the cultural festivals, Cleveland hosted the CMJ Rock Hall Music Fest, which featured national and local acts, including both established artists and up-and-coming acts, but the festival was discontinued in 2007 due to financial and manpower costs to the Rock Hall. The annual Ingenuity Fest, Notacon and TEDxCLE conference focus on the combination of art and technology. The Cleveland International Film Festival has been held annually since 1977, and it drew a record 66,476 people in March 2009. Cleveland also hosts an annual holiday display lighting and celebration, dubbed Winterfest, which is held downtown at the city's historic hub, Public Square.
Cleveland also has the Jack Cleveland Casino. Phase I opened on May 14, 2012, on Public Square, in the historic former Higbee's Building at Tower City Center. Phase II will open along the bend of the Cuyahoga River behind Tower City Center.
The new Greater Cleveland Aquarium is on the west bank of the Cuyahoga River near Downtown.

Harlem Federal Theatre Project Production of MacBeth
In 1935, in the middle of the Great Depression President Franklin Delano Roosevelts Administration created the Works Progress Administration Federal Theatre Project (FTP) as part of the New Deal economic recovery program. Negro units, also called The Negro Theatre Project (NTP), were set up in 23 cities throughout the United States. This short-lived (1935-1939) project provided much-needed employment and apprenticeships to hundreds of black actors, directors, theatre technicians, and playwrights. It was a major boost for African American theatre during the Depression era.
These units were situated throughout the country in four geographical sectors. In the East, the most productive units were located in New York City, Boston, Massachusetts, Hartford, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Newark, New Jersey. In the South, units were placed in Raleigh, North Carolina, Durham, North Carolina, and Birmingham, Alabama. In the Midwest, they were situated in Chicago, Illinois, Peoria, Illinois, and Cleveland, Ohio. In the West, units were in Seattle, Washington, and Los Angeles, California.
The best-known and most active FTP was The New York Negro Unit (1935-1939). Located at the Lafayette Theatre in Harlem, it staged some 30 productions. Two white directors, John Houseman and Orson Wells, headed it in 1935. Three black directors, Edward Perry, Carlton Moss, and H. F. V. Edward replaced them in 1936. The units most popular production was the Haitian, or voodoo, Macbeth (1935), an adaptation of Shakespeares play set in the Caribbean, under the direction of Wells. Other productions included Frank Wilsons folk drama Walk Together, Children (1936), which described the forced deportation of 100 African American children from the South to the North to work for menial wages. Arna Bontemps and Countee Cullens The Conjur Man Dies (1936), a farcical mystery in three acts, dramatized Rudolph Fishers mystery-melodrama. Also in 1936, J. Augustus Smith and Peter Morrell co-authored Turpentine, a social drama in three acts and ten scenes which focused on the evils of the Southern labor camp system. George MacEntee's The Case of Philip Lawrence (1937) was a courtroom melodrama. Haiti by William DuBois (not to be confused with W. E. B. DuBois), appeared in 1938 as a historical drama about the overthrow of a Haitian government. The Negro Youth Theatre, a popular subdivision of the New York Negro Unit, produced Conrad Seilers social drama Sweet Land (January 1937), which toured the streets of New York with the production during the following summer.

Roaring 20s: Gus C. Edwards Orch. - Alabama Stomp, 1926
Gus C. Edwards & His Orchestra (A Benson Organisation) Vocal Refrain by Cliff Covert -- Alabama Stomp, Fox Trot (Henry Creamer -- Jimmy Johnson) Victor 1926 (USA)
NOTE: Gus C. EDWARDS (born Gustaw Simon, 1879 in Inowrocław, Poland -- d. 1945 in NYC) American songwriter and vaudevillian, owner of theatre companies and music publisher. When he was seven, his family moved to the United States, ending up in Brooklyn. During the day, he worked in the family cigar store, and in the evenings, he wandered looking for any sort of show business job. He found work as a singer at various lodge halls, on ferry boat lounges and in the saloons until he was employed at Bowery Theatre. His duty, however, was not singing but standing in the audience, and pretending to be completely overcome by the numbers, which were presented on the stage. In age of 17, Gus Edwards made his first stage appearing at Johnny Palmer's Gaiety Saloon in Brooklyn, after which he was contracted with four other boys to tour as The Newsboys Quintett. It's when he wrote his first song, to a lyric by Tom Daly, All I Want is My Black Baby Back. May Irwin sang the song in her act, and helped to popularize it. Soon, with the lyricist Will Cobb, Gus Edwards formed a parthership, that lasted for many years. He also performed as vaudeville singer, and later, he founded his own vaudeville company. He discovered Elsie Janis, Eddie Cantor, the Marx Brothers, Eleanor Powell, Hildegarde, the Lane Sisters and Ina Ray Hutton. He wrote the Broadway stage scores for When We Were Forty-One, Hip Hip Hooray, The Merry-Go-Round, School Days, Ziegfeld Follies of 1910. In the 1920s he founded the Gus Edwards Music Hall in New York, and also his own publishing company. His other popular-song compositions include By the Light of the Silvery Moon, I'll Be With You When the Roses Bloom Again, He's My Pal, Way Down Yonder in the Cornfield, In My Merry Oldsmobile. He also wrote all the music for The Hollywood Revue of 1929, with the exception of Singin' in the Rain. Bing Crosby played Edwards in a fictionalized version of his life in the 1939 film The Star Maker.
I never found any confirmation of Gus C.Edwards as professional leader of any sort of a dance orchestra. This very professional rendition of the very hot jazzy fox-trot, made by Gus C. Edwards Orchestra - member of some mysterious Benson Organization, had been recorded, as it seems, by famous Benson Orchestra of Chicago and Gus C. Edwards, perhaps, was invited to be a guest director of it (or, he co-directed the band).
