Celebrating the Uivers 85th Anniversary.

About: In the early hours of October 24 1934, while competing in the MacRobertson London to Melbourne Air Race, the Dutch plane KLM Uiver got lost in a severe electrical storm over Albury NSW Australia.

Realizing the plane was in trouble a plan was hatched to use the towns lights to send a the word Albury to the pilots in Morse code.

Residents then rushed to the local race track, and using the head lights from their cars, formed a make shift runway allowing the Uiver to land safely.

After the aircraft was pulled out of the mud the KLM Uiver would go on, not only to finish the race but also to win on handicap.

This event more than 80 years ago created an endearing bond between the citizens of Albury and the people of The Netherlands which continues to this day.
