Alexander Wilderness Park Trail Run | Lethbridge, Alberta
Alexander Wilderness Park is a nature reserve on the north side of Lethbridge, Alberta near the uploads urban expansion which has been maintained as a nature reserve spanning from the coulees down into the Old Man River valley.
This trail starts at a free public parking area up top and follows a small trail along the grassy fields at the top of the Coulees. Heading westward towards the Old Man River, the trail eventually meanders down between the hills at a gradual decline and intersects with a shale trail the spans a few kilometers along the valley trees.
After two turn around points at the river boundary, the shale trails run back up between the hills to a lower parking area, with bathrooms and a picnic area. From here there are many tougher trails leading up the hillsides, but for ease of accessibility the route portrayed in this video simply follows the long gravel road the snakes up between the hills at a gradual incline back to the upper area where the route started. Always be safe and watch for cars coming down around the bends on this road!

Alexander Wilderness Park in north Lethbridge along side the Oldman River
Pavan Park Equestrian Trail Run | Lethbridge, Alberta
Located within the city limits of Lethbridge, Alberta (1km north of Uplands.) Pavan Park is a large wilderness park area spanning the Old Man River valley, and stretching up into the Coulees towards the highway.
Note: The trails in this valley are prone to flooding in rainy and winter seasons, and the eroded Coulee trail is dangerous in wet conditions. Please use caution when using this trail outside of dry seasons.
This trail run follows the city maintained equestrian trail used by stables housed at a nearby farm across the highway. The path starts from the upper parking area and follows the top of the coulees to a beautiful descent with full view of the Pavan Park valley below. After a slightly rugged descent, the trail switches into a relatively flat shale trail that follows the river and eventually loops back into rougher horse trails again.
For the final ascent, I chose to show off the other primary option of getting into the park by taking the paved road, which is a solid 700m of roadside paved asphalt leading back up towards the starting point at a constant gradual ascent.

We think Hardieville needs to be renamed Parksville. Why? Because nature and wildlife lovers, outdoor enthusiasts, and people seeking peace and tranquility will find all those things at North Country Estates. Why Parksville though? Hardieville has one of the city's newest neighbourhood park and playground (Georgetown). To the west is Alexander Wilderness Park, 630 acres of tranquil preserve ideal for nature and exercise enthusiasts. Just north is Pavan Park, a 308-acre nature reserve with 10 km of shale trails for running, hiking, or horseback riding plus a fully equipped picnic compound you can book for private parties. Just to the south is Peenaquim Park, a combination of natural terrain and organized sports activities with an expansive off-leash dog park and much, much more. Development starts this year on the Northside Regional Park, a few short blocks east of North Country Estates. This 73-acre park will be the north side's answer to Henderson Lake. Get more information on these fabulous parks at lethbridge.ca. The recently completed North Scenic Drive extension makes the entire city accessible from Parksville within minutes - even the University and the College. But enough about the location. You need to come and explore the area for yourself. This home is outstanding - fresh, clean, contemporary, easy to live in - and enjoy. View the pictures and tour Parksville condo living online. Come and explore - then stay for a lifetime.

As this is the oldest housing on the west side, prices are generally more affordable than other areas on some properties here. Get in touch if you want more information.

The City of Lethbridge is in the process of updating the Lethbridge River Valley Parks Master Plan. The plan will set out a long term vision that will describe the value of this community asset and will guide how the river valley is used, balancing the preservation of the eco-diversity and the desire for residents to enjoy the use of the river valley.

The Goats Are Baaack!
After successfully clearing vegetation in Cottonwood Park last year, the City has hired the same herd of local goats again this year to tackle invasive weeds in Alexander Wilderness Park and Indian Battle Park.
