King Kamehameha Statue and Downtown Honolulu (Oahu, Hawaii)
Hawaii is not all about beaches! We decided to visit downtown and see King Kamehameha himself! lol
King Kamehameha Statue
Several Kamehameha statues honor the monarch who founded the Kingdom of Hawaii.
Address: 447 S King St, Honolulu, HI 96813
Statue of King Kamehameha I
A great warrior, diplomat and leader, King Kamehameha I united the Hawaiian Islands into one royal kingdom in 1810 after years of conflict. You can still visit the Nuuanu Pali Lookout, the site of the Battle of Nuuanu, a crucial conflict that helped Kamehameha conquer Oahu.
Kamehameha’s unification of Hawaii was significant not only because it was an incredible feat, but also because under separate rule, the islands may have been torn apart by competing western interests. Today, four commissioned statues stand to honor King Kamehameha I, Hawaii’s first king.
The most recognized Kamehameha statue stands in front of Aliiolani Hale (home to the Hawaii State Supreme Court) across from Iolani Palace and a short walk from historic Kawaiahao Church and the State Capitol. Dedicated in 1883, this was actually the second statue created after the ship delivering the original statue from Europe was lost at sea near Cape Horn. This original statue was later found and was erected in North Kohala on the island of Hawaii near King Kamehameha’s birthplace. The third statue of him is located in Hilo on the island of Hawaii, and the fourth is in Washington D.C.
Sculpted by Thomas Gould in Florence, this 18-foot bronze statue of Kamehameha is one of Oahu’s most photographed landmarks. On the Friday closest to June 11 (Kamehameha Day), this statue is ceremoniously draped with wreaths of flower lei to celebrate Hawaii’s greatest king.

ʻIolani Palace in usa
ʻIolani Palace is a building in downtown Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, United States. It was a palace for the kings and queens of Hawaiʻi. It is the only palace in the United States that was used as an official residence by a reigning monarch. Two monarchs governed from ʻIolani Palace. They were King Kalākaua and Queen Liliʻuokalani. After Hawaiʻi stopped having kings and queens in 1893, the building was used as the state's capitol building until 1969.
In 1962, ʻIolani Palace became a National Historic Landmark. The palace was restored and opened to the public as a museum in 1978

Hawaii State Capitol District Walkabout
The full city block surrounding the Hawaii State Capitol building is peppered with magnificently significant historic buildings. I spent the entire afternoon on a walkabout just to photograph the grounds and structures that make Hawaii such a unique architectural delight. From Queen Liliuokalani's home to King Kamehameha's Statue in front of the State Judiciary Building, one might wonder where on earth are you.
