如果要說我最懷念斯里蘭卡的什麼地方，我想我會毫不猶豫的說Galle加 ... 我很喜歡這裡的另一個原因，雖然Galle在斯里蘭卡也是一處有名的景點
Galle is a city on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. It’s known for Galle Fort, the fortified old city founded by Portuguese colonists in the 16th century. Stone sea walls, expanded by the Dutch, encircle car-free streets with architecture reflecting Portuguese, Dutch and British rule. Notable buildings include the 18th-century Dutch Reformed Church. Galle Lighthouse stands on the fort’s southeast tip.
到訪斯里蘭卡加勒（Galle）的遊客大都選擇住進四百多年前由荷蘭人著手興建的加勒城堡（Galle Fort）內。加勒城堡位於一個面積約 52 公頃的半島之上，它是一個融合了歐洲和南亞傳統建築風格的堡壘。由於當局近年致力保育，加勒城堡及城堡內的殖民地建築保存完好。
圍繞著城堡的是一道完整的城牆（Fort Walls），主要由荷蘭人於 1663 年所建。雖然加勒城堡不能保護荷蘭人於 1796 年把控制權拱手讓給英國人，但加勒城堡卻成功於 2004 年保護城堡內的居民和遊客免受城牆外因南亞海嘯驟然湧至的波濤淹沒，受災程度遠低於城牆外的加勒市。
遊客的指定項目是走上城牆看看城牆內外的光景，我甫安頓好亦立即沿著城牆跑了大半圈。城牆外是一望無際的印度洋，可惜是當天天氣多雲，看不到印度洋的水平線日落。翌日醒來藍天一片，我禁不住藍天的誘惑又跑了城牆一圈。
城牆東南角的加勒燈塔（Galle Lighthouse）建於 1939 年，連同位於北面城牆建於 1882 年的鐘樓（Clock Tower），是加勒城堡其中兩座地標歷史建築。城牆內亦遺有多座歷史建築物，較有代表性的包括建於 1755 年的荷蘭歸正教堂（Dutch Reformed Church / Groote Kerk）、1871 年的諸聖聖公會教堂（All Saints Anglican Church）和 1904 年的米拉清真寺（Meera Mosque）等。城牆內許多旅館、遊客商店和餐廳等都是顏色鮮艷的古老民房，雖然免不了受到商業化的影響，卻仍為加勒城堡增添幾分小鎮風情。

The cathedral was built by the Society of Jesus at the end of the 19th century. The first bishop was the Belgian Jesuit Joseph Van Reeth.
The Cathedral is central and important to the Catholics of southern Sri Lanka in the Diocese of Galle. The church is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Pope visits a Catholic shrine in northern Sri Lanka
Pope Francis travelled to the jungles of war-torn northern Sri Lanka on Wednesday in a deeply symbolic show of solidarity with the victims of the country's 25-year civil war and to urge hundreds of thousands of followers towards forgiveness and reconciliation.
Thousands of people waving the white and yellow Vatican flags welcomed Francis to the Our Lady of Madhu shrine, which is revered by both Sinhalese and Tamil Catholics, as well as people of other faiths.
No pope has ever travelled to the northern Tamil region, and Francis' visit to Sri Lanka's holiest Christian shrine - hours after canonising the country's first saint as a model for unity - provided a poignant backdrop for his calls for Sri Lankans to overcome their prejudices and seek pardon for the sake of peace.
We want to ask Mother Mary to accompany with her prayers the efforts of Sri Lankans from both Tamil and Sinhalese communities to rebuild the unity which was lost, Pope Francis said on Wednesday.
Tamil Tiger rebels fought a 25-year civil war to demand an independent Tamil nation after decades of perceived discrimination by governments dominated by the Sinhalese majority.
United Nations (UN) estimates say 80-thousand to 100-thousand people were killed during the course of the war, though other reports suggest the toll could be much higher.
The government finally crushed the rebels in a bloody series of offensives that ended in 2009.
During the final stages of the war, the villages around Madhu emptied out as residents fled deeper into rebel-held territory to escape the government's offensive.
At one point, the priest in charge of the shrine fled for safety along with its precious statue of the Madonna, which dates from the arrival of the earliest Christians in Sri Lanka and is believed to hold miraculous healing powers.
Both eventually returned.
Just as her statue came back to her shrine of Madhu after the war, so we pray that all her Sri Lankan sons and daughters may come home to God in a renewed spirit of reconciliation and fellowship, Francis said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Pope Francis celebrated a Mass before a half-million people in Colombo's Galle Face Green to canonise the Reverend Joseph Vaz as Sri Lanka's first saint.
Pope Francis flies to the Philippines on Thursday for the second and final leg of his Asian pilgrimage.
