— About Exploring Colombia —
Colombia, a country which many only know because of it’s violent past, has been on my list since I went to South America for my first long-term trip in 2012. 6 Years later and with 5 weeks to spend it was finally time to properly explore my country number 9 on the continent.
For the first part of the trip I’ll be traveling with my mate David to the historical city of Cartagena, some picturesque Carribean islands and to the city of Medellin where we get to learn about the violent past and the transformation of the country. After a few days in the capital Bogota I’ll be joined by my good friend Stefan to learn salsa and take on some outdoor adventures in Cali before heading up to Santa Marta where we checkout the most beautiful beaches, float down rivers and hike through the mountains.

You Need to Visit MEDELLIN. Is it Safe? Is it Dangerous? We love Colombia ❤️City Travel Guide ????????
So many people have asked and expressed concern about the safety of Colombia and in particular Medellin when we mentioned going there. People have many outdated notions of Medellin and immediately thing of drugs and cartels. In this video we discuss our feelings of safety while exploring the city!
Save $40cad on your next hotel booking here ????
To start things off we take public transportation using both the metro and cable cars (which are integrated into the public transportation system) to reach Arví Park. At first we were a bit confused about where to go in the park but eventually we come across a beautiful picnic park with walking trails, a stream and a bridge.
The next day we head out on a free Medellin Walking Tour with Zippy Tours ( to explore the neighbourhood of Comuna 13. Back when the city was run by cartels and Pablo Escobar this was considered one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods in the entire world. Nowadays its a vibrant area with amazing street art/graffiti that tells the story of this community. The tours are given by members of the community so you get to hear first hand experiences of living there, and how the community pulled through. Along the way we heard many stories, saw some amazing street art, went up the famous escalators, and saw some fabulous street dancing.
All in all we felt very safe throughout those two days spent in Medellin but we always advise everyone to do their research and be aware of their surroundings.

FAQ:
How can you afford to travel so much?
I'm definitely not rich- but I am growing. I'm living a digital nomad lifestyle, working while traveling, leveraging my hard-earned US dollars and spending them in cheaper countries.
What is a digital nomad?
I love the way Riley a.k.a. Livin That Life described it, A digital nomad is an easier way to say location-independent entrepreneur. Basically, when you work online and for yourself, you are able to work where you want, when you want.
Why are you in Medellin?
Medellin, Colombia is popular amongst nomads for its low cost of living and high quality of life. It also [usually] has good wifi, which we need for work, and there's plenty of activities for when we are not working!
What do you do for work?
I run an e-commerce, drop shipping store, which I learned how to do via an online course called Drop Ship Lifestyle.
Can anybody become a digital nomad?
Absolutely. It does take some work, but the reward is immense. Keep your day job, work for yourself after. There are tons of online business models you can build, or you can leverage any skills you have and freelance/consult/teach. If you want to know more, feel free to message me on social media (below) or email me (listed on my channel page).

Who am I? My name is Sorin - I throw darts at the world map and travel wherever they land.
I visited over 50 countries so far and I am enjoying life.
I am usually doing this with my friend Matt for a show called Travel by Dart, but I also do it myself as lifestyle.
This first dart hit Svalbard, an archipelago close to the North Pole, where they went for three weeks during Christmas and New Year. Inspiration travel.
After that we went to many other locations, such as Russia, Easter Island, Indonesia, etc. Here are the stories:
Svalbard/North Pole episode:
Russia episode:
Easter Island episode:
Indonesia episode:
Travel by Dart is a series that combines adventure travel, reality TV and philanthropy. Each episode two friends throw a dart a the worlds map and travel wherever it lands, no matter the remoteness, cost or difficulty.
Covering every continent on the globe, from the sands of Oman to the most remote islands of Polynesia (and beyond), over 12 episodes they uncover the history, cuisine and richness of culture that connects the world together, while seeking one distinct and outside-the-box way to bring help or positive change to the people or the land they visit.
With the goal of seeking to find the common bond of friendship and kindred love that ties the world together, every trip is fuelled entirely from their own resourcefulness.
Here is our official trailer:
With no fancy television studios, production companies or financial help, they film their entire journey step-by- step from beginning to end, proving that travelling to every continent on the globe, living your wildest dreams and getting past the challenges of the mundane work-life is entirely possible if you put your mind to it. Do you have what it takes to travel by dart?

Things To Know Before Visiting Medellin Colombia
Things To Know Before Visiting Medellin Colombia
I have been living in Medellin for six years and I have many businesses and properties here. Since I have a quite experience now I wanted to give you some recommendations before you will come to visit this beautiful Colombian country.
First thing I would like to mention is the question of security. Obviously, Colombia is an emerging economy so it is not the safest place in the world but it is not at all that dangerous as many believe. I have been living here for quite a long now and nothing bad happened to me. I have never been stolen. However, you should not show off so do not take out your latest model of mobile phone in the public and so on. You should take Uber instead of a taxi from the street. Uber is illegal in Colombia so you should sit at the front seat.
The dollar is astronomically high in Colombia so if you want to invest it is a great moment right now or perhaps if you are expats and you earn in dollars, your life will be much cheaper here than in the USA.
As for the sim card, I recommend you Claro which has a great reception all over the country, even in the most remote spots. You can buy a pre-paid card in any shops here.
As for the communication, even though Colombia lives out of tourism, there are still many people, especially the elder, that does not know it, so it would be great if you could learn some basic words in Spanish. The Colombian people will appreciate a lot that you are making an effort. You will soon discover that people here are very friendly and open so you will feel incredibly welcomed.
If you are planning to go to Amazon area or the Caribbean coast like Cartagena de las Indias, you will need yellow vaccine certificate which you can actually obtain here and you will save a lot of money in comparison to the USA.
As for the dress code, for men you should not wear sandals and shorts. I would recommend jeans. Medellin is more lay-back than other parts of Colombia like Bogota where people tends to wear suits more often.
For more tips, watch the full video that I hope you will find helpful at your next trip to Medellin.

24 Hour Medellin Itinerary MUSTS
I’m Brian Kelly, welcome to my life as The Points Guy.
There was plenty to see in Medellin. It’s amazing we could fit it all in 24 hours!
Friends Pablo Uribe and Eduardo made it their mission to help us make the most of Colombia as we could in a day. We drank in Provenza, dined at Carmen, rode the metro cable, nabbed some delicious bites at a food stand in the Parque Arvi, hung out with some relatable statues at Botero Plaza, got familiar with local street art and everything in between. #BeingThePointsGuy #ExploreCulture
