Altesino. Brunello di Montalcino MONTOSOLI 2009 #088
In the Anglo-Saxon world the Brunello di Montalcino is one of the outstanding wines. In particular the single vineyard cru Montosoli from Altesino is among wine lovers in the world an unspoken secret. The image of the Brunello in general nowadays a little bit covered with dust. The Brunello di Montalcino leaves many wine drinkers often a too dry palate combined with an unbalanced acidity. In addition to this, an excellent Brunello has its dissuasive price. Nevertheless, in exceptional vintages and made with care, this red wine from Tuscany bursts out from the glass and makes you greedy for more. February 20. 2014
ALTESINO. BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO MONTOSOLI
Country: Italy
Wine region: Tuscany
Locality: Montalcino
Cru: Montosoli
Vintage: 2009
Classification: D.O.C.G. Brunello di Montalcino
Variety: Sangiovese
Montosoli is a single vineyard cru from Montalcino. Compared to the vintages of 2006, 2007 and 2008 the Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli 2009 stands out for its accessibility. It blossoms and exhibits ripe cherries, almond paste, fleshy aromas and discreet nuances of tobacco and tar. Soft and silky on the palate, just like butter on toast. Outstanding intensity of wood berries and almond paste. The balanced acidity comes along with very supple tannins. This Montosoli is definitely already to drink. Long and spicy finish. Best now through 2030 (February 2014) - 94 PS.

Altesino with Claudio Basla #035
Tuscany - The wine cellar of Altesino, in the municipality of Montalcino, is embedded in the ancient structure of the Pallazzo Altesi. The underground bottling plant or the roses that adorn the edges of the vineyards are just a few examples of the loving attention and quality awareness that Altesino's philosophy of work and life are all about. The wines are mainly from the Sangiovese Grosso grape, a.k.a. Brunello. It gives the Rosso di Altesino its bright ruby red and, after 1 year aging in oak, allows its well-structured, harmonious velvety taste. The Brunello di Montalcino develops during its at least 2 years of aging in large wooden barrels of Slavonian oak its garnet color and its complex berry and vanilla bouquet with distinct violet notes. Its dry warmth and supple race make it a perfect companion to roasts and game dishes.
Since 2002, the winery Altesino is owned by Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini, a pharmaceutical and cosmetics entrepreneur from Rome. Since then she has received technical support from the technical manager and previous owner Claudio Basla and from the oenologists Pietro Rivella and Paolo Caciorgna.
In this video, I speak with Claudio Basla, who reveals insights into incredible and amazing world of Brunello di Montalcino. (October 27. 2011).

ALTESINO. BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO MONTOSOLI
Country: Italy
Wine region: Tuscany
Locality: Montalcino
Cru: Montosoli
Vintage: 2006
Classification: D.O.C.G. Brunello di Montalcino

Deep crimson. Aromatic, profound and complex with aromas of black cherries, red currant, hints of tobacco and tar, minerals and spices. Dense to the core. A massive juiciness strikes the palate and comes along with a good structure. Full-bodied. Acidity and tannins reveal a great partnership, but this Montosoli needs its time to find Nirvana. Its lingers very long. Best from 2013 and through 2025 (October 2011). 94 PS

Montalcino vineyard tour by ITALY AND WINE
In the isolated hills of Montalcino, Sangiovese ripens more and better than elsewhere in Tuscany, giving wines with more color, body, extract, tannin, and richness than other wines based on the same variety.
This video shows Giacomo Bindi the owner and winemaker of Il Cocco winery who explains how Sangiovese grows.
During a tour with ITALY AND WINE you will have the opportunity to meet the owner of the winery who will be proud to explain the wine making process and will lead a wine tasting of Brunello DOCG and Rosso di Montalcino DOC wines.

Altesino is nestled in the storied Tuscan hills of Montalcino. This area has been producing some of the most lauded Sangiovese wines for centuries. Altesino is among the royalty of the Brunello producers and has the distinction of being a woman- owned estate with a woman winemaker!
Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini bought the Altesino estate in 2002 and has elevated its already grand reputation to greater heights with the expression of 'Cru' level Brunellos that express the unique and rare terroirs of the estate and of the Montalcino region.
This Rosso di Toscana, while the lowest IGT level they produce is no less looked after. This wine, made from the younger vines of their meticulously tended vineyards, is a blend of 80% Sangiovese Grosso and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Concrete fermented, this is a pure expression of the Montalcino terroir. This wine is a good value at TWICE the price!!
90 Points- James Suckling
This shows red cherry compote, red plum essence and some leather and spices. Medium body, fine tannins and a fruity finish. Drink now.
