5 Bologna Day Trips!
You can easily satisfy your travel needs in the city of Bologna Italy after two or three days. So, here's 5 Bologna day trips I recommend while you're in the Emilia-Romagna region.
Before I start, have you eaten the Bologna lasagna? Do that first, it's the best!
Bologna Day Trips:
1) Fico Eataly World
Take a bike through this huge amusement park of food and even see where your food comes from with the local farm in the back. Eataly World has it all, food from all over the world. You can spend your entire three course meal inside here.
2) Parma- from the Bologna train station take a short ride to the capital of Parma ham & cheese!
3) Modena- home of some of the fastest car manufacturers in the world such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani and Maserati.
4) Rimni- a small beach city with amazing tortellini and tons of beach side attractions.
5) San Marino- one of the smallest countries in the world. Check out this mountainous micro state by bus at the Rimini train station. Learn more about San Marino in my vlog here:

One Day in Bologna, Italy! ???? Free Walking Tour
We made a last minute decision to visit Bologna as it was on our way to San Marino. We didn't do much research, and we only had one day to visit, so we opted for the Free Walking Tour (tip-based tour) in Bologna. This is usually a great way to see the highlights and learn some interesting facts and history about the city.
We first had to learn how to use the public transportation to get into the city from our Airbnb, which was a little more confusing than we thought.
The one thing we knew we wanted to do in Bologna was EAT of course, and we did a LOT of that.
We almost always use Airbnb to rent an apartment for an extended period of time when we are traveling. Its the most convenient way to have a place booked so we can hit the ground running when we land. Its also the most comfortable so we can use it as a work space and having a kitchen allows us to make a lot of our own meals.

Italy Road Trip: Florence to Bologna (Montepulciano & San Marino)
My Italy Road Trip begins in Florence, Italy where I spend a relaxing day in Firenze before meeting up with friend and fellow travel blogger Clint of TripHackr.com.
We need to be in Venice in four days, so this is part one of the Italian Road Trip adventure to get there!
We rent a car in Florence and drive south to Montepulciano for lunch. Montepulciano is an incredible medieval hilltop town right in the middle of the Tuscany wine region.
Next, we drove back north to the Republic of San Marino for sunset, and onward to Bologna for dinner.
It was a great first day on our Italy Road Trip!

Visiting BOLOGNA for the FIRST TIME
It is such a BEAUTIFUL city! Walking around BOLOGNA in ITALY was amazing and the food, was DELICIOUS!
I got to Italy and I arrived in the hotel in Bologna around 2:15 in the afternoon and the sun in Bologna was setting at 4:51 in the after so I didn't have much time to see things around Bologna.
I love to come to Italy specially because in Italy on any city the food is delicious! The mains foods that you should be looking for when visiting Bologna or any other city in Italy are PASTA and PIZZA.
I was visiting Bologna for the first time and as I didn't have a lot of time I just dropped some points on the map and went to see what was there. I ended up seeing really nice places and having an amazing dinner.
If you have visited Bologna in Italy or you are planning on travel to Bologna remember to see these places:
Towers of Bologna
Piazza Maggiore
San Petronio Basilica
Fountain of Neptune
Santo Stefano
These are just a few places you can go and visit in Bologna, there are many places to visit.
Hit me up in the comments for any questions!

Explore Bologna, Italy. Top Things to do in the City!
We explore the amazing Northern Italian city of Bologna, the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region.
We start the day at the Giardini Margherita and then walk up to the church San Michele in Bosco to find the best views over the city.
After that we head back down to the main part of town making our way through the city’s famous porticos (covered walkways) to the main square Plaza Maggiore where we check out the outside of the amazing church Basilica di San Petronio.
Later we got some serious exercise by climbing the Asinelli tower (the smaller, leaning tower next to it is Tower Garisenda. It is 97 metres high and took about 10 minutes to get to the top, the views were beautiful but it was very crowded!
Lastly we go find the small canals in Bologna, and in particular the small peaking window the gives you a glimpse of the canals (La Piccola Venezia).
Lastly, if you’re wondering what the top six most populated cities in Italy are: ;)
1. Rome
2. Milan
3. Naples
4. Turin
5. Palermo
6. Genoa

Bologna:
Often left aside on travel plans in favour of more famous Italian cities, such as Rome, Venice and Milan, Bologna has plenty to offer tourists, from amazing traditional Italian food and art.
Bologna is a historical city, with around 380,000 inhabitants. Although it is well known by Italians, it is less so among foreign visitors. Little English is spoken by its residents. It is the capital and largest city of Emilia-Romagna (a region in northern Italy). Bologna is famed for having the oldest university in the Western world, a lively student population, exquisite food, typical brick terracotta-roofed architecture and porticos, theatre and nightlife.
Bologna is famous for its cuisine (la cucina Bolognese). It is also viewed as a progressive and well administered city. It is considered second only to Venice in beauty by many Italians
Emilia Romagna Region:
Emilia Romagna lies between the River Po to its north and the Apennine Mountains (to its south). It is one of the most fertile and productive regions of Italy, thanks to the mitigating effect that the Adriatic Sea has on the coastal climate.
The diversity between the mountains and sea offers visitors to Emilia Romagna breathtaking views, in addition to beauty for both the eyes and spirit, with a mixture of the earthy colors, the aromas and the fresh sea air. Not to mention that Emilia Romagna is a hotbed for music, cinema and art appreciated nationally and internationally.
Giardini Margherita:
Giardini Margherita is the largest and certainly the most popular city park. It was designed by the Piedmontese Sambuy to provide Bologna with an ample green and public place as in other Italian and European cities. It was opened in 1879 with the name of “Passeggio Regina Margherita” ( as a tribute to the wife of King Umberto I).
San Michele in Bosco:
San Michele in Bosco is a religious complex in Bologna, central Italy, including the church with the same name and the annexed Olivetan monastery. The latter was acquired in 1955 by the municipality of Bologna, to house an orthopedic center named the Rizzoli Orthopedic Institute (l'Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli).
Plaza Maggiore:
Piazza Maggiore is located in the very centre of Bologna. In the past, the square underwent many changes and was embellished with important buildings: the Basilica di San Petronio, Palazzo dei Notai, Palazzo d'Accursio, Palazzo del Podestà and Palazzo dei Bianchi.
Basilica di San Petronio:
Named in honour of Bologna patron saint Petronio - 8th bishop of the city from 431 to 450, the Basilica is the most imposing (a length of 132m, a width of 66m, a height of 47m) and important church in Bologna.

Bologna Day Trip - The Best Gelato in Italy Ep.2 - Bologna, Italy
On this bologna day trip I wanted to show you not only around the city a little bit but also how easy it is to get from the bologna airport to city centre or bologna airport to train station. Bologna in 3 minutes ???????? A great trip to Bologna in Italy
A trip to the beautiful city Bologna in Italy is worth it. Bologna is located in the region Emilia-Romagna and has its own airport. Bologna city offers many historical sights, such as San Petronio, Asinelli, beautiful squares and arcades.
Bologna can be visited on two days. If you are planning an Italy tour, visit Bologna and then continue to Florence. For a longer trip to Europe we recommend Florence rather than Bologna. You can find tips for hotels, car hire and flights in the links below.

Day 14 on our Round The World Trip for Food: Rome, Italy - On our very first day in Rome, we set off early in the morning to see some of the most famous attractions in Rome, including the Colosseum and the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. After doing some more sightseeing and having lunch, we had an amazing Roman food at a restaurant in Rome called Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino.
00:37 Breakfast at the hotel - To begin the day of sightseeing in Rome, we had breakfast at the hotel, and did the final planning of the day.
2:12 Colosseum - One of the most important and well recognized attractions in Rome is the Colosseum and we arrived pretty early to get in, and I also had pre-purchased my tickets online to attempt to beat the crowds and not have to waste time waiting in line. It worked well, and as soon as the Colosseum opened, we went through security and got in. It was an amazing sight to see, especially because it was so quiet when we arrived.
3:51 Roman Forum and Palatine Hill - Locate in the same area as the Colosseum is the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and so that’s where we went next. Again, seeing the ancient ruins of Rome was truly spectacular.
5:48 Trattoria Luzzi - I wasn’t quite sure where to eat lunch, and located right around these famous attractions in Rome, there are a lot of expensive, and probably not so good restaurants. We decided to go check out a restaurant called Trattoria Luzzi, just down the road from the Colosseum on the opposite side of the road. I ordered Trippa Alla Romana, a Roman tripe dish and also a pasta of Amatriciana. Overall, the food was good, and it was a friendly little restaurant and the location was good. Total price - 21 EUR ($23.47).
10:31 Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano - After lunch we headed to Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, a huge basilica in Rome. Right across the plaza is Scala Sancta, a small chapel with a 28 step staircase where Jesus is believed to have ascended.
13:25 Gelateria Valentino - I don’t know of anyone that goes to Rome without eating some gelato, and right around the Trevi fountain area of Rome, you’ll find a lot of gelato spots. We tried Gelateria Valentino. Gelato - 3 EUR ($3.35)
14:50 Trevi Fountain - Another one of the most iconic attractions in Rome is the Trevi fountain. We didn’t spend too much time there, but it is pretty cool to see in person.
16:25 Amazing Italian Roman food at Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant - For dinner, my wife and I met up with Valentina and Antonio. After walking through the amazing narrow lanes of Rome, we navigated our way to Trattoria Dal Cavalier Gino Restaurant, where they had made a reservation for dinner. The restaurant is exactly what you want in a classic Roman Italian food restaurant, a family style restaurant that offers an abundance of Roman dishes. We first started with some types of Roman pasta including cacio e pepe, and carbonara, all of which were incredible - the best pastas I’ve ever had. Then we moved on the an amazing assortment of main Italian food dishes, including veal, lamb, and so many other amazing dishes. It was an Italian food meal like I’ve never had before. Most of the dishes were Roman food style. Thank you Valentina and Antonio for the amazing dinner!
Day 14 in Rome was an amazing day of visiting some of the most famous attractions in Rome and eating some incredibly delicious Italian food!
