San Pedro, Belize History, A Walk Down Memory Lane
To celebrate International Museum Day, the San Pedro House of Culture produced a video that illustrates a historical timeline of the development of San Pedro Town. The video also highlights photographs of founding families, the fishing industry, tourism, and the various traditions and celebrations practiced by the people of San Pedro Town, as well as the work done by the House of Culture on the island. Enjoy!

The Museum of Belize
Check out our trip to the Museum of Belize. This is one of Belize’s most unique places for you to learn about our nation’s rich history and cultural heritage. In the facility, you can see many interesting artifacts, including authentic jade pieces, preserved insects, and souvenirs that date back to the days of British Honduras.

The museum is housed in an old prison building, and you can still see remnants of the facility's past purpose. This is a convenient stop to make whether you are here on a cruise call, or perhaps have some time on shore before heading out to the islands. It's a short walk from the Fort Street Tourism district where cruise tenders dock and where water taxis depart to the islands. Next time you're in Belize City, stop by the Museum of Belize. Until then, here is a quick glimpse of what you might expect to see.

WACP.tv: 2016 Mayan Village Project in Belize
When we admire the ancient culture of the Mayan people, we often forget the action steps to make sure that culture lives on through the people of the now. 'Can You BELIZE IT' Road Tour in Search of the Promise Land... has found a very needy and worthy cause to initiate and promote. We have decided to adopt the people of the San Antonio Village in Corozal Bay, Belize. By doing so, we plan to raise enough funds to REBUILD and furnish their Community Center and help them to establish and maintain programs to help save the youth. Without our help, they have very little creative activities. With our help, they can participate in ARTS & CRAFTS WORKSHOPS, MOVIES, TALENT SHOWS and much more. CLICK THIS LINK TO HELP NOW! ...

4 Paintings Added to Belize National Art collection
For the latest news across Belize, visit:
Robert Sydney Reyes may not be well known among Belizeans at home, but his works of art will endure in the National Art Collection for years to come. That’s because four of his paintings were today inducted into the compendium of Belize’s patrimony. The donation was made through the Governor General’s office on behalf of Reyes, a friend and former student of Sr. Colville Young. A brief ceremony was held this afternoon at the Bliss Center for Performing Arts where the pieces are currently on display at the Belisle Art Gallery. Director of the Museum of Belize, Alexis Salazar, tells us more.

Preserving the Maya Past
Preserving the Maya Past: A Community Heritage Project
Dr. Richard Leventhal, Professor, Anthropoology and Director of the Penn Cultural Heritage Center
The contemporary Maya living in the Yucatan today identify their heritage and past as related to the Caste War of the mid 19th Century, one of the most successful indigenous rebellions in the Americas. They make few direct ties to the ancient Maya past. A new Penn project in Quintana Roo explores the nature of this past and heritage and is focused on the integration of the contemporary Maya into the archaeological, ethnohistoric and ethnographic study of the Caste War.
Coast Guard issues challenge to sea pirates after kidnapping
For the latest news across Belize, visit:
Over the weekend of October first, a group of fishermen from the north were robbed at gunpoint while out at sea in southern Belize. It was reported that the fishers were approached by an unknown vessel and the occupants, who were said to be well armed, proceeded to rob and assault the fishermen. In an attempt to escape the attackers, the fishermen jumped overboard, but only two of them made it to shore. It has been over a week and the third fisherman hasn’t been found and is still presumed to be missing, although chances of his survival are slim. Today we spoke with Commander of the Belize National Coast Guard, John Borland, who says that they are the lead on a taskforce working with the Fisheries Department to bring the perpetrators to justice. So, what has happened since then? Well, Borland says that the brazen attackers have sent a message to the Coast Guards and Borland says he has responded and is ready and waiting.
