Amphibian airplanes can be a relatively new concept even to pilots. That’s because most of us train in tricycle, land airplanes. But the fact is 70% of planet is covered by water so it only makes sense that we have airplanes that can land or float on water. Well we do, and today we are checking out 5 of the best light modern sea planes available in the industry.
Being that these aircraft are light, and many of them in the LSA category, you get limited amount space/useful load and you’re traveling no more than 120 miles per hour for the most part. Here are the airplanes listed:
1. Icon A5 - Arguably one of the most technologically advanced light plane built in the last 20 years. The Icon A5 stuck a chord with many old and new pilots, particularly those who want to fly just for fun or sport. The airplane is known for its good handling capabilities and anti-stall safety feature. But honestly there is no such thing as anti-stall for an airplane. Due to troubles and some failed promises over the years, the ICON initial goal to take over the sport aviation market has somewhat stalled. There are very few production airplanes flying today, and pilot/owners seem to be very happy with the product. Below are specs for the A5.
USEFUL LOAD: 430-550 lbs
RANGE: Up to 491 miles
SPEED: Up to 109 mph
PRICE: $269,000
2. Super Petrel LS - If you’re in the US, You probably haven’t heard about this amphibious plane. Me either, not until researching for this video. The Petrel is a French/Brazilian design and although popular around the world, its a bit quiet here in the United States. With all the cool features in the airplane though, which includes double wings, and a turbo charged engine upgrade, all for $175,000. Not bad, hopefully the company gets more love and coverage. Below are specs for the Super Petrel.
USEFUL LOAD: 537 lbs
RANGE: Up to 590 miles
SPEED: Up to 115 mph
PRICE: $175,000
3. Vickers Waves - An Icon A5 lookalike but much sleeker. This airplane is designed by founder and owner Paul Vicker from new Zealand. Lots of cool features including those folding wings also seen the Icon A5. But the Vicker is still in design phase. There is no flying prototype yet to confirm any performance numbers. Below are specs for the Vicker Waves.
USEFUL LOAD: 500 lbs
RANGE: Up to 828 miles
SPEED: Up to 138 mph
PRICE: $180,000
4. MVP - The name alone draws special attention. MVP is another light seaplane that flames to be the most practical of all. With this plane you can fly on land, water and snow. You can also take it fishing, camping and much more. Perfect airplane for the all the adventurous daredevils out there. Below are specs for the MVP.
USEFUL LOAD: 450 lbs
RANGE: N/A
SPEED: Up to 120 mph
PRICE: $189,000
5. Searey - Available in both light sport and experimental with your choice of engine, ranging from the Rotax 912, 914 or 915. The Searey airplane is hands down the best bank for the money. No it’s not the best looking plane when compared to the other sleeker ones like the A5 or the Vicker, but you get all the same feature and then some with the Searey. And a complete light aircraft will only cost you $125,000. Below are specs for the Searey.
USEFUL LOAD: 450 lbs
RANGE: Up to 416 miles
SPEED: Up to 120 mph
PRICE: $125,000

Soviet Shoot-Down of USAF C-130
On September 2, 1958, a USAF C-130 reconnaissance aircraft was shot down by Soviet MiG-17 pilots. While conducting its mission, the US craft strayed into restricted airspace over Soviet Armenia. It was supposed to fly a race track pattern between the Turkish cities of Trabzon and Van essentially parallel to the Armenian border.
Why did the C-130 cross into Armenian space? The answer is unclear. One theory is that aircraft personnel were confused by Turkish navigational beacons that were on similar frequencies to those in Armenia and Georgia.
The Soviets denied shooting down the aircraft, claiming the plane fell into their territory. Immediately they returned the remains of six out of the 17 men on board. The US, concerned about the fate of the other 11, hoped to encourage the Soviets to be more forthcoming. They released tape recordings of the Soviet fighter pilots' communications during the shoot down.
Clearly the pilots had taken offensive action against the C-130. But that was of no matter to the Soviets who continued to deny their involvement.
The matter was never resolved until the end of the Cold War when previously classified documents were released. The Soviet files showed that all 17 U.S. personnel had died in the crash. In the 1990s their remains were finally returned to the United States.

FINDING THE BIGGEST RATTLESNAKE IN THE WORLD! (Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Crotalus adamanteus)
FINDING THE BIGGEST RATTLESNAKE IN THE WORLD! (Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, Crotalus adamanteus)
You all know Florida was a lot of snakes, and big ones too! While I was down there filming some episodes, I took a few days and traveled all over the peninsular from one coast to another to try and a find the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake, the biggest rattlesnake species in the world! This once common, now increasingly rare rattlesnake had me putting in the time, and effort, and in the end, how we found it was just plain incredible! This isn't the biggest specimen ever found, but a member of the biggest rattlesnake species in the world! Come and join my Florida herping adventure, and learn about some of the other reptiles found in Florida as well!
ABOUT THE EASTERN DIAMONDBACK RATTLESNAKE
The Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake Crotalus adamanteus is the largest rattlesnake species and is the heaviest known type of venomous snake, with one specimen shot in 1946 measuring 7.8 ft (2.4 m) in length and weighing 15.4 kg (34 lb). However, other venomous snakes may rival this species in weight, the much longer but more slender king cobra is probably greater in average body mass if not maximum weight and the shorter but even bulkier gaboon viper could (but is not verified to) exceed the rattlesnake in both mean adult body mass and possibly even maximum body mass. Common names include eastern diamondback rattlesnake, eastern diamond-backed rattlesnake, eastern diamondback, diamond rattlesnake, diamond-back rattlesnake, common rattlesnake, diamond-back, diamond(-patch) rattler, eastern diamond-back (rattlesnake), eastern diamond rattlesnake, Florida diamond-back (rattlesnake), Florida rattlesnake, lozenge-spotted rattlesnake, rattler, rattlesnake, southeastern diamond-backed rattlesnake, southeastern diamond-backed rattler, southern woodland rattler, water rattle, water rattlesnake, and diamondback rattlesnake. C. adamanteus is found in the southeastern United States from southeastern North Carolina, south along the coastal plain through peninsular Florida to the Florida Keys, and west along the Gulf Coast through southern Alabama and Mississippi to southeastern Louisiana.

Let other people have cats and dogs! Jungle Bob is here to show you that owning a pet reptile or amphibian is not as crazy as you might think. In this video, he tells you six cool facts about green anoles and brown anoles.
For many people, a trip to Florida is often a chance to encounter one of Florida's most populace lizards, and that is the green and brown anoles. Little tiny lizards with quite a temperament to them, they are a little bit on the tenacious side.
Predators for sure. They look like mini velociraptors to me sometimes, because of their tenacity when they hunt their favorite prey which, of course, is insects.
Two distinct different species, and sometimes I refer to as anolies, anoles. It's almost like tomatoes, tomahtoes; you can say it a lot of different ways. But there's two distinct ones, the first one here is biting my right finger, is the green anole, or the Carolina anole, which is native from the Carolinas all the way down to Florida. This is a native American species that was quite popular in the pet trade for many many years.
In my left hand is the brown anole, which lives in Florida but now more of them, most of them, come up from the Caribbean, and the Bahamas, they're hitchhikers, and they've gotten into the United States. They're somewhat an invasive species, and they're so tenacious they're kind of pushing our green anole friends up the border and out of competition for food. They're very, very aggressive as well.
Green anoles are beautiful, little creatures, in that they have, particularly the males of the species, they throw out this gorgeous dewlap. It's a flap of skin underneath the neck that is brightly colored, and that serves a dual purpose. It's first function, certainly, is to attract a girlfriend. A male anole with a beautiful dewlap is most likely to mate with his female counterparts.
The other part of it is just to scare off another male. A male will puff up and show big he is, even though we're looking at an animal that's about 3 to 4 inches in total length, and maybe a couple of ounces in weight. He's trying to show how big and bad he is by throwing out his dewlap, bobbing his head, and saying territorially, this is my area; I live here, you back off.
So, the green and brown anoles are something that I'm sure everybody who's visited Disney World, or has seen grandma in Florida, you're going to encounter these. They cohabitate beautifully with mankind. They are everywhere: crawling across houses, inside of houses, in porches; a daytime diurnal animal that you'll see all day long.
At night they sleep on walls and tree-trunks and they're extremely easy to catch when they're sleeping. During the day, not so much. They are very, very quick, as we can see, our guys here in the branch, how fast they can scurry. This is an animal that suffers from the malady known as autotonomy, which is, if I grab it by the tail, he'll detach that tail, and I'll be left with a wiggling tail in my hand, and the lizard will actually escape.
It's natures way for lizards to defend themselves from not being eaten by some of their favorite predators. Snakes birds of prey, etc, will grab him by the tail because they're so fast and all they'll get is that tail meal, and the lizard lives to see another day. Their tail regenerates, but it's never quite as nice as the original.
This is the green and the brown anole, a treasure of the American southeast, and something you'll see on any trip to the Florida area. They also make wonderful jewelry, should you be so inclined.

SUMMARY
=======
Georgia is a state in the Southeastern United States. It began as a British colony in 1733, the last and southernmost of the original Thirteen Colonies to be established. Named after King George II of Great Britain, the Province of Georgia covered the area from South Carolina down to Spanish Florida and New France along Louisiana (New France), also bordering to the west towards the Mississippi River. Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the United States Constitution, on January 2, 1788. In 1802–1804, western Georgia was split to the Mississippi Territory, which later split to form Alabama with part of former West Florida in 1819. Georgia declared its secession from the Union on January 19, 1861, and was one of the original seven Confederate states. It was the last state to be restored to the Union, on July 15, 1870. Georgia is the 24th largest and the 8th most populous of the 50 United States. From 2007 to 2008, 14 of Georgia's counties ranked among the nation's 100 fastest-growing, second only to Texas. Georgia is known as the Peach State and the Empire State of the South. Atlanta, the state's capital and most populous city, has been named a global city.
Georgia is bordered to the north by Tennessee and North Carolina, to the northeast by South Carolina, to the southeast by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by Florida, and to the west by Alabama. The state's northernmost part is in the Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountains system. The Piedmont extends through the central part of the state from the foothills of the Blue Ridge to the Fall Line, where the rivers cascade down in elevation to the coastal plain of the state's southern part. Georgia's highest point is Brasstown Bald at 4,784 feet (1,458 m) above sea level; the lowest is the Atlantic Ocean. Of the states entirely east of the Mississippi River, Georgia is the largest in land area.

The Great Gildersleeve: Leroy Suspended from School / Leila Returns Home / Marjorie the Ballerina
The Great Gildersleeve (1941--1957), initially written by Leonard Lewis Levinson, was one of broadcast history's earliest spin-off programs. Built around Throckmorton Philharmonic Gildersleeve, a character who had been a staple on the classic radio situation comedy Fibber McGee and Molly, first introduced on Oct. 3, 1939, ep. #216. The Great Gildersleeve enjoyed its greatest success in the 1940s. Actor Harold Peary played the character during its transition from the parent show into the spin-off and later in a quartet of feature films released at the height of the show's popularity.
On Fibber McGee and Molly, Peary's Gildersleeve was a pompous windbag who became a consistent McGee nemesis. You're a haa-aa-aa-aard man, McGee! became a Gildersleeve catchphrase. The character was given several conflicting first names on Fibber McGee and Molly, and on one episode his middle name was revealed as Philharmonic. Gildy admits as much at the end of Gildersleeve's Diary on the Fibber McGee and Molly series (Oct. 22, 1940).
He soon became so popular that Kraft Foods—looking primarily to promote its Parkay margarine spread — sponsored a new series with Peary's Gildersleeve as the central, slightly softened and slightly befuddled focus of a lively new family.
Premiering on August 31, 1941, The Great Gildersleeve moved the title character from the McGees' Wistful Vista to Summerfield, where Gildersleeve now oversaw his late brother-in-law's estate and took on the rearing of his orphaned niece and nephew, Marjorie (originally played by Lurene Tuttle and followed by Louise Erickson and Mary Lee Robb) and Leroy Forester (Walter Tetley). The household also included a cook named Birdie. Curiously, while Gildersleeve had occasionally spoken of his (never-present) wife in some Fibber episodes, in his own series the character was a confirmed bachelor.
In a striking forerunner to such later television hits as Bachelor Father and Family Affair, both of which are centered on well-to-do uncles taking in their deceased siblings' children, Gildersleeve was a bachelor raising two children while, at first, administering a girdle manufacturing company (If you want a better corset, of course, it's a Gildersleeve) and then for the bulk of the show's run, serving as Summerfield's water commissioner, between time with the ladies and nights with the boys. The Great Gildersleeve may have been the first broadcast show to be centered on a single parent balancing child-rearing, work, and a social life, done with taste and genuine wit, often at the expense of Gildersleeve's now slightly understated pomposity.
Many of the original episodes were co-written by John Whedon, father of Tom Whedon (who wrote The Golden Girls), and grandfather of Deadwood scripter Zack Whedon and Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog).
The key to the show was Peary, whose booming voice and facility with moans, groans, laughs, shudders and inflection was as close to body language and facial suggestion as a voice could get. Peary was so effective, and Gildersleeve became so familiar a character, that he was referenced and satirized periodically in other comedies and in a few cartoons.
