Amtrak Coast Starlight, in a Sleeper Car Bedroom
The overnight 14 Coast Starlight (Amtrak) from Los Angeles to Seattle.
--3 states
--1,377 miles
--36 hours
--29 stops (a few afford a chance for some fresh air, for a few minutes)
--incalculable jaw drops at the beauty seen from along the ocean coastline to the snowy mountain ranges and backdoor views of towns and cities.
I can't recommend this enough! What an experience! What a way to see the country! The whole ride was smooth, quiet, and tranquil. Whether you enjoy a book in the glass-domed car while sipping on some coffee, or nurse a beer through the passing majesty outside your window, you are rocked gently into a relaxation that is unlike any other. The staff was ever ready to accommodate needs and/or wants. Guest speakers rode along, regaling passengers with tales of the flora, fauna, and history of the areas. Fellow passengers were in equal states of awe and wonder, evidenced by the acknowledging head tilts complete with twinkling eyes and hearty grins. Childhood fancy was stirred together with an aged appreciation and I found that though we were moving northward, time had stood still.
Note: Yes...I have since learned to refrain from filming in portrait mode, when using a phone. ????
Note: Thank you, all, who have clarified that it's a Lounge Car featured in this video, not an actual Parlour Car. I did not intend to mislead anyone; during our ride, the staff and fellow passengers were calling it the Parlour Car, and I was at fault for following the flock in my understanding. Our train's Parlour Car must have been undergoing maintenance, at the time. I did find, however, the Lounge Car to be quite enjoyable. Nevertheless, I imagine riding with an official Parlour Car would enhance the experience, greatly. Thank you all, for clarifying this, for me and for others.
Note: for mobile device viewers, annotations don't appear on-screen. At the 2:28 mark, it should be noted that There is a traditional door on this bathroom; it's just not visible, here.

How to Survive 3 Nights in a SEAT on U.S. TRAINS, Solo | Amtrak California Zephyr
The other week, I ACCIDENTALLY booked myself a single seat (not a bed!) on Amtrak's California Zephyr, a journey crossing the ENTIRE United States of America over 4 days. It wasn't easy, but I'm always up for a good survival challenge :D
See how I survived this crazy journey! Would you do it too?

20 Minutes of Amtrak West Coast Service! - Cascades, CDTX, Coast Starlight and More!
I decided, why not make another Amtrak compilation? Well, I put together this long 20 minute video of nothing but West Coast Service.
Trains include Amtrak California, Amtrak Cascades, Coast Starlight and the Empire Builder.
Some of the following locomotives/cabcars in this video may note as special; AMTK #50 (Big Game Train), AMTK #822 (Phase III Heritage), AMTK #90250 (Seahawks), CDTX #8306 (Nathan P5 Horn Cabcar) and so on.
You may also note a few special units in the video such as BNSF 7695, but to me those don't really count.
Amtrak (The National Railroad Passenger Corporation) will live on with these routes for many years to come.
Please watch in 1080p full HD on Desktop or mobile devices with a headset, as it is best viewed in that quality for the enjoyment of users!

Amtrak Coast Starlight approaching Oakland
OAKLAND, Ca., March 26, 2015: Southbound Amtrak Coast Starlight (Train 11) out of Emeryville, approaching Oakland station. We sprung for a Family Bedroom on this trip so we could be guaranteed an ocean view.
A quick view of the Jack London Inn, the worst hotel in the United States. If you like paying $100 a night for a filthy dirty room, a mouldy bathroom, no towels, semen-stained bedding, four-legged and six-legged (and more) critters crawling over you at night, sharing your lodging with mentally unstable indigents, this is your dream hotel.
Riding the Amtrak Coast starlight for the first time (Vlog #81)
Today is finally the day, I been waiting for. It's time to ride the coast starlight. although the train was 5 and a half hour delay, it didn't really damper anyone spirit at all.

Amtrak Coast Starlight at Jack London Square
April 9, 2013. Oakland, California. Amtrak Coast Starlight on southbound Embarcadero approaching Oakland station, enroute to Los Angeles.
Not sure what The Missus found so exciting about three sleepers. But she loves trains. So I love her!
She got pissy when I asked her to turn around and get the tail end southbound.
We shot this video in front of the Jack London Inn, which is literally one of the worst (if not THE worst) hotels in the United States. If you are scoping out Expedia and looking for a hotel, just keep on looking. Transients, insects, rodents, stench. This place has it all.
On the other hand, there is another nearby hotel called the Inn At Jack London Square which is a very nice, reasonably-priced hotel. It used to be a Best Western. The Inn At Jack London Square really should sue the Jack London Inn. Or, better yet, buy it and tear it down.
We stayed at the Jack London Inn during our visit in 2013. It was adequate. When we stayed again the next year, it was a disaster.
