The name Anayirankal is formed from two words of Malayalam language Anay means Elephant and irankal means coming down, hence, Anayirankal means it is the place where elephants come down to drink water!
Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) took up the Anayirankal Dam construction project and the construction work was carried out by Hindustan Construction Company!

Pooppara - Thekkady road to reach this beautiful place. If you have your own car, the best possible route to reach this place is to drive for around 15 kilometers from Munnar to Chinnakanal (which is a key landmark in Munnar). From Chinnakanal, proceed towards Thekkady and within 7 kilometers, you should be reaching this destination. The lake/ reservoir is nestled amidst the beautiful mountain slopes and one will find the entire landscape laced with tea gardens.

Like a jade green carpet, the tea plantation plays a major part in attracting tourists.
