Big Bend Ranch State Park: The Hidden Gem of West Texas
CBS 7 is gearing up for its fifth and final leg of our community tour. This week we're headed south to the border town of Presidio.
The Big Bend area has so much to offer including gorgeous views. People that live here encourage visitors to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. CBS 7 got a taste of that over the weekend.
Our crew stayed at the Big Bend Ranch State Park, tucked away in the far reaches of west Texas in between Alpine and Presidio, people there call it the hidden gem of west Texas.
Sot - nathanael goldpark superintendent
I love it for its solitude. There's not any other natural wilderness in the state of Texas really anymore, Nathanael Gold, Big Bend Ranch State Park Superintendent said.
Making it the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors.
It's a different world out here. We have all these amazing guides to take you on fun trips, Gold said.
Our crew took advantage of Gold's advice. We strapped up with Angell Expeditions for a day of outdoor adventures. The day included mountain biking, hiking and a river tour; we left no stone unturned.
While canoeing along the Rio Grande we met up with the McCraw family from Houston. They're soaking up everything the Big Bend region has to offer on their family trip.
Just to be here and walk through it, walk through the canyons where there's no advertising or TV or pollution, it's just gorgeous, Lori McCraw said.
She says it's the perfect place to unplug and make memories with those you love.
There are so many places that are touched by man and this is one of the few that's not, McCraw said.
