Antpur is a village in the Jangipara community development block of the Srirampore subdivision in the Hooghly District in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is around 20 km from Tarakeswar, the famous temple town and railhead for the Sheoraphuli–Tarakeswar section.
The most famous temple in Antpur is that of Radhagovindjiu with exquisite terracotta carvings depicting stories from all the 18 puranas. This 100 feet high temple was constructed by Krishna Ram Mitra, the Diwan of Bardhaman Raj in 1786 (1708 Shakabda). Its Chandi Mandap and Dol Mancha have beautifully crafted wood carvings and terracotta.[1]

Antpur Radhagovindjiu Temple
The period when the temple was built was curious. Muslim rule was ebbing out and the Europeans were making forays into the country. It is said that Krishna Ram Mitra built the temple to enthuse the Hindus. Terracota work which was earlier an exclusive preserve of Bishnupur artisans was no more so. While Radha and Krishna are predominant in the carvings, there also is the goddess Durga, whose worship had been revived in a big way by Nabakrishna Deb of Shovabazar Rajbari in 1757.[2]
Besides the main temple of Radhagovindjiu are the temples of Gangadhara, Fuleswara, Rameswara, Jaleswara and Baneswara.
Antpur was the village home of Baburam Ghosh (later Swami Premananda). It was at Antpur where Swami Vivekananda and eight other disciples of Sri Ramakrishna took their vow of ‘sannyasa’ on 24 December 1886. The Ramakrishna-Premananda Ashram of Antpur has built a temple on the birthplace of Swami Pramananda.

The rail company was shut down in 1971, and the tourist flow to the village declined gradually after that.

Terracotta Temples of Dwarhatta and Antpur (Hooghly District - INDiA)
DWARHATTA:
The major attractions of this place are its terracotta temples. The Vishnu and three Shiv temples constructed by Singha Rai family, the zamindars of this place, are the most popular sights. One of the three temples is Rajrajeswari-Shiva terracotta temple, constructed by Pannalal Singha Rai. The walls of this temple are adorned with scenes from Ramayana, Indian mythology, and Radha- Krishna.
Though the temples of Shiva are in dire condition, they are being restored by the Archaeological Survey of India, who has acknowledged this as a heritage site. There is the temple of Dwarika Chandi, where a large fair and puja is organized every year.
ANTPUR or AATPUR:
The Radhagobinda temple in the village bears characteristics of the Bengal school of architecture. The aatchala or Bangla style, typical of the school, is completely different from the design of north or south Indian temples.
The temple is rectangular and covered by two sloping roofs, one over the other. The real beauty of the temple is on its facade, replete with carvings from Hindu mythology, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
Episodes from the life of Krishna are also depicted. In fact, figures of Radha and Krishna are the most conspicuous.
Mahishasurmardini Durga with her family can also be seen. At the time of the construction of the temple, Durga puja was reintroduced among Bengalis by Raja Nabakrishna Dev. The impact of the move can be gauged from the fact that Durga is depicted even on a Vaishnav temple like this.
Social lives of the royals and commoners are also sculpted on the walls of the temple. A few panels even illustrate the lives of the Europeans. Hindu symbols like lotus and shankha are abundant, as are scenes of fighting and sporting activity, of elephants and tigers.
A massive snake statue reaches up to the first floor from the the front side of the temple. The terracotta figures are mostly bright red. A few have turned black with age.
Besides the temple is a wooden chandimandap that Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa had visited.
HOW TO REACH
Dwarhatta can be reached by availing any of the options stated below. Firstly, you can get on a bus from Kolkata, that will take you through Arambagh, Bankura, Bishnupur and finally stop at Gajar More, which is 6 km from Haripal in Hoogly. From Gajar more you have to turn left and travel a small distance of 1.5 km to reach the village of Darhata. Or you can also get on a bus from Howrah to directly reach Antpur, from where you go to Darhata. If you want to go by railways, you can avail local train to take you to Tarakeshwar from Howrah. On the way you have to get down at Haripal and then take a trekker to Antpur. You can also hire a car from Kolkata to reach Haripal and Antpur. Rajbalhat, 15 minutes by bus from Antpur, is famous for handloom saris. There's also a 500-year-old Rajballavi temple.
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Since the place is sunny and hot all round the year; you can visit Darhata anytime in the year. In the summers, the green shade of the trees will protect you from the scorching rays of the sun.

Historical destination- Antpur & Rajbalhat
Shri Aurobinda wrote “In the district of Hooghly which is within Bengal, the heart of India, the heartbeat is heard. The district of Hooghly is indeed rich in tradition of religious practices what with its education, culture, society, history and the arts. A one day trip to the village of Antpur and Rajbalhat should definitely be included in the bucket list of all Bengalis..
