Chavin De Huantar Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Chavin de Hauntar in Peru.
On the journey to Chavin De Huantar, one of the oldest cult locations in Peru, there's the fascinating world of the Andes that seems to touch the clouds. Radiant colour and pure Nature are constant companions on the 109 kilometre route from Huarez to these ancient ruins. The settlement of Chavin De Huantar has a history that dates back 3000 years. Even today little is known of the exact way of life of the Chavin culture as no written history of it has been discovered. Thus, research is restricted to the archaeology that has been uncovered that also includes various stone images. Snakes, animals, and birds engraved in stone have been among the most commonly found images of this mysterious culture. Assisted by beautiful flat reliefs even today numerous temples and fortresses show the artistic talents of Chavin culture. During the first millennium A.D., this seven hectare area was the most important place of pilgrimage in Peru. In the oldest section there are entrances to a subterranean world where an assortment of labyrinth-like passages and rooms extend down almost seven floors. The scant light that manages to find its way into the narrow passageways adds to the mysterious atmosphere of this ancient architectural masterpiece. For the inhabitants of Peru's mountains in the first millennium B.C., Chavin De Huantar symbolised the beginning of a colourful new age and today it is an atmospheric example of a mysterious and fascinating past.

Megalithic Standardized Building Code: Chavin de Huantar, Peru
John Rick of Stanford University has studied the site with laser scanning in an attempt to determine whether it was planned by an elite or had resulted from some grassroots religious fervor.[8] Because details such as stair placement remain constant throughout generations of builders, the site may be a very early example of the use of a standardized building code.
[8] de Huántar is an archaeological site in Peru, containing ruins and artifacts constructed beginning at least by 1200 BCE and occupied by later cultures until around 400–500 BCE by the Chavín, a major pre-Inca culture. The site is located in the Ancash Region, 250 kilometers (160 mi) north of Lima, at an elevation of 3,180 meters (10,430 ft), east of the Cordillera Blanca at the start of the Conchucos Valley. Chavín de Huántar has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Some of the Chavín relics from this archaeological site are on display in the Museo de la Nación in Lima and the Museo Nacional de Chavín in Chavin itself.

Hacia 1.200 a.

The main purpose of Millennial Peru is to reveal the most magnificent and ancient archaeological sites in Peru, and the current experiences of andean communities, with particular emphasis in the continuities, parallels and differences between past and present.
The relevance of specific topics in both periods, the historical roots of current issues and the application of prehispanic technology in modern communities, will be some of the ways used every week to link the archaeological and historical evidence with the present.
This series will use a language and expositive ways according to a wide non-academic audience. Through visual resources, 3D-animations and texts provided by the conductor-narrator, the audience will be able to see archaeological sites, natural landscapes and the communal activities related to them. The show will present the points of view and comments of all the social actors involved in every subject in a very interactive way, with special attention to interviews and testimonies in these sequences.
Millennial Peru will also include the reflexive point of view, used -for example- in the long walks of the Chasqui. In each program, the Chasqui will explore a new and unknown route, leading the audience through a very hard -and sometimes extreme- environment.
Both Chasqui and the host-conductor, will begin a neverending journey to reveal the fascinating pages of America's most ancient history.

Archaeological Site of Chavin / History and Origin

The archaeological site of Chavin gave its name to the culture that developed between the 15th and the 5th century BC in this high valley of the Peruvian Andes, in the province of Huari, department of Ancash. Chavin was a ceremonial and pilgrimage centre for the Andean religious world and hosted people from different latitudes, distances and languages, becoming an important centre of ideological, cultural and religious convergence and dissemination around a cult spread over a wide territory of the Andes, as far as the north, central and south coasts, the northern highlands and high jungle of Peru.
Chavin is one of the earliest and best known pre-Columbian sites and represents the more important expression of the arts and decorative and construction techniques of its time. The ceremonial and cultural nature of the site is evident in its architectural, technological and symbolic creation, which is characterized by coated quarried stone buildings and artificial terraces around plazas, containing an internal gallery system with an intricate network of vents and drains unprecedented in South America. The buildings and plazas were decorated with lush anthropomorphic and zoomorphic symbolic iconography of extraordinary aesthetic synthesis, carved in bas-relief on tombstones, columns, beams and monolithic stone sculptures. The Chavin Lanzón, the Raimondi Stela, the Tello Obelisk, the Falconidae Portico, the Circular Plaza and the tenon heads, among others, are evidence of the outstanding and monumental Chavin lithic art. All of these features make the archaeological site a unique monument of universal significance.
The Chavin Archaeological Site, eponym of one of the ancient civilizations of South America, is an exceptional example of the architectural, technological and symbolic creations of the early pre-Columbian societies in the Peruvian Andes. Its appearance is breath-taking, with a series of terraces and squares, with a complex system of internal galleries, and decorated with anthropomorphic and zoomorphic iconographic elements of extraordinary beauty. It was an important centre of ideological, cultural and religious convergence and dissemination around a cult spread over a wide territory of the Andes.

The Chavín de Huantar temple shows complex innovation to adapt to the highland environments of Peru. To avoid the temple's being flooded and destroyed during the rainy season, the Chavín people created a successful drainage system.
The Chavin people also showed advanced acoustic understanding. During the rainy season water rushes through the canals and creates a roaring sound and creates a noise like a jaguar, a sacred animal.
The temple was built of white granite and black limestone, neither of which is found near the Chavín site. This meant that leaders organized many workers to bring the special materials from far away rather than use local rock deposits.

CHAVIN DE HUANTAR: The Theatre of Beyond
The ceremonial site of Chavin de Huantar, in Peru, appeared 3,300 years ago, where some sorcerers became theocratic rulers. There, they represented the theatre of beyond, a complex liturgy to reinforce their power against the pilgrims in search of answers. They used hallucinogen substances and all kind of sound effects to manipulate the perceptions of the neophytes. This was the base of a status quo that maintained this caste of priest in power during 800 years without any need of an army or such.
