Chavin De Huantar Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Chavin de Hauntar in Peru.
On the journey to Chavin De Huantar, one of the oldest cult locations in Peru, there's the fascinating world of the Andes that seems to touch the clouds. Radiant colour and pure Nature are constant companions on the 109 kilometre route from Huarez to these ancient ruins. The settlement of Chavin De Huantar has a history that dates back 3000 years. Even today little is known of the exact way of life of the Chavin culture as no written history of it has been discovered. Thus, research is restricted to the archaeology that has been uncovered that also includes various stone images. Snakes, animals, and birds engraved in stone have been among the most commonly found images of this mysterious culture. Assisted by beautiful flat reliefs even today numerous temples and fortresses show the artistic talents of Chavin culture. During the first millennium A.D., this seven hectare area was the most important place of pilgrimage in Peru. In the oldest section there are entrances to a subterranean world where an assortment of labyrinth-like passages and rooms extend down almost seven floors. The scant light that manages to find its way into the narrow passageways adds to the mysterious atmosphere of this ancient architectural masterpiece. For the inhabitants of Peru's mountains in the first millennium B.C., Chavin De Huantar symbolised the beginning of a colourful new age and today it is an atmospheric example of a mysterious and fascinating past.

Explore Peru, The Top Tourist Attractions in Peru
Peru is one of the great centers of ancient civilization. The Norte Chico civilization already flourished along the Pacific coast as early as 3,000 BC. Many other civilizations such as the Moche, Chavin, Chimú and Nazca would follow, leaving behind fascinating ruins and artifacts. The most famous ancient ruins in Peru were built by the sun-worshiping Incas who emerged in the 15th century and would form the largest empire in pre-Columbian America.
You do not need to be a history buff to enjoy Peru however. Other popular tourist attractions in Peru are some great natural wonders. The Andes run the full length of the country, rising to almost 7,000 meters (23,000 feet), and separate the arid coastal strip from the lush Amazon rainforest providing a diverse range of travel experiences.

Nazca Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Nazca.
Approximately 450 kilometres south of Peru's capital of Lima a desolate road leads into the vast terrain of the scant, desert-like highlands. In the midst of this almost lifeless world and surrounded by sandy mountains is the small airport of Nazca. Indeed, a single aircraft once made this region famous. One day while flying here in 1939, American Paul Kosok made an amazing discovery: long drawn-out lines that extend across the ground that are the traces of a mysterious pre-Columbian culture. These strange hundred metre lines were created by the Nazca culture and according to archaeological research date back to the sixth or seventh century B.C. Since their discovery they have created much controversy with regard to their origin, function and significance. There are more than a hundred lines and figures within the surrounding plains and mountains. Most of the markings were revealed by the removal of the top layer of dark stones from the ground. In recent years one of the images known as the Astronaut has captured the imagination more than any other. The proportions and geometric precision of the different images raise numerous questions. How could the Nazca people have created these gigantic designs? Recently a further image of perfect proportions and measuring a hundred metres was also discovered. But how were those who created these enormous images able to gain a true perspective of their work? Is it possible that a precursor of the hot-air balloon existed in those bygone times?

Mysterious Archaeological Discoveries (Top Truths)
Most Mysterious Archaeological Discoveries Ever Made
Digging up items from the past always remind us how creative the minds of our ancestors were. Such discoveries are also a great chance to see the remains of items which are centuries old. Here are the Most Mysterious Archaeological Discoveries Ever Made.
9 Voynich Manuscript
The Voynich Manuscript is an illustrated codex hand-written in an unknown writing system. The vellum on which it is written has been carbon-dated to the early 15th century (1404–1438), and it may have been composed in Northern Italy during the Italian Renaissance. Some of the pages are missing, with around 240 remaining.
8 The Mount Owen Claw
Nearly three decades ago, a team of archaeologists were carrying out an expedition inside a large cave system on Mount Owen in New Zealand when they stumbled across a frightening and unusual object — an enormous, dinosaur-like claw still intact with flesh and scaly skin. The claw was so well-preserved that it appeared to have come from something that had only died very recently.
7 Sacsayhuaman
Sacsayhuaman is one of the most stunning Inca ruins, located on the northern outskirts of the old city of Cusco, Peru, the former capital of the Inca Empire. Built like a fortress, the complex covers a huge area, but they constitute perhaps only a quarter of the original complex, which, at the time, could have easily housed more than 10,000 people.
6 Nazca Lines
The Nazca Lines are a series of large ancient geoglyphs in the Nazca Desert, in southern Peru. They are so large; they can only be seen when flying over the Peruvian desert. The largest figures are up to 370 meters long and they were designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Scholars believe the Nazca Lines were created by the Nazca culture between 500BCE and 500CE. The figures vary in complexity. Hundreds are simple lines and geometric shapes; more than 70 are zoomorphic designs of animals, such as birds, fish, llamas, jaguars, monkeys, or human figures.
5 Gobekli Tepe
Six miles from Urfa, an ancient city in south-eastern Turkey, Klaus Schmidt made one of the most startling archaeological discoveries of our time: massive carved stones about 11,000 years old, crafted and arranged by prehistoric people who had not yet developed metal tools or even pottery. These megaliths predate Stonehenge by around 6,000 years.
4 Terracotta Army
In 1974, a group of archaeologists in Xian, China made an excavation which became the discovery of the greatest funeral art ever, the Terracotta army. They found thousands of clay soldiers buried near the tomb of emperor Qin Shi Huang. He was the first emperor of China. The clay soldiers were buried with him for protection from different forces after death. This ancient complex is around 2,200 years old. The archaeologists also found different weapons along with the sculptures. They were perfectly arranged within different clay corridors.
3 Moai Statues (Easter Island Heads)
The Moai statues of Easter Island, also known as the Easter Island Heads, are one of most mysterious and iconic archaeological discoveries ever made. These statues are the main tourist attractions of Easter Island. The Moai statues were carved by ancient people of Rapa Nui between 1300 to 1500CE. There are 288 Maoi statues in total, situated on various massive stone platforms on the Island.
2 Stonehenge
Stonehenge, one of the most famous landmarks in the UK, is regarded as a British cultural icon. It is a prehistoric monument made up of a ring many large free-standing stones. Each stone is around 13ft high, 7ft wide and weighs around 25 tonnes. The actual purpose of Stonehenge is still unknown, although there are several hundred burial mounds nearby. Archaeologists have dated the human remains to be around 4,500 years old, buried at some point between 3000BCE and 2000BCE.
1 Great Pyramids
It’s argued that the Egyptian Pyramids are the greatest ancient structures ever to be created. Even though many civilizations built pyramids, the Egyptian pyramids are a cut above the rest. The Great Pyramid of Giza always makes it on lists of the greatest wonders of the world, and for good reason.
