The History Trust of South Australia, based at the Torrens Parade Ground, operates three museums – the Migration Museum, the National Motor Museum and the South Australian Maritime Museum. Complementing these established museums is The Centre of Democracy – an exciting collaboration with the State Library of South Australia. The History Trust is also responsible for the State History Collection, a collection of objects relevant to the history of our state.

Keswick Museum
Keswick Museum and Art Gallery in the Fitz Park was built at the turn of the century for ‘the inhabitants of Keswick and the visitors thereto’. The grand opening of the museum was on Easter Monday April 11th 1898, and it has remained unchanged ever since, apart from the provision of electric lighting and heating. Its Victorian style, and the range of exhibits make it a fascinating place to visit for all the family. The picture gallery was added later through the energies of Canon Rawnsley. It opened in July 1907.The local history collection stretches back to Roman times, and includes such items as the famous 700 year old cat, a penny farthing cycle, and a man trap. One of the prime exhibits is a set of musical stones (below), variously termed the stone dulcimer, the rock harmonicon or the geological piano. It has travelled to London where performances were given to Queen Victoria. its a good Museum to visit I enjoyed it.

Launch of Onkaparinga and The Overland Weekend. 13-4-2013.
On Saturday April 13 and Sunday April 14, 2013, as part of their 50 year celebrations, the National Railway Museum at Port Adelaide held the 'Launch of Onkaparinga and Overland Weekend' event.
Former Victorian and South Australian Railways timber bodied sleeping carriage Onkaparinga which was used on the Melbourne Express later renamed The Overland from Adelaide to Melbourne had been fully restored (which included being painted into an authentic livery) by the National Railway Museum and was returned to service.
A replica Overland train, formed with carriages BE42, Onkaparinga and 12 wheel brakevan 276, was hauled by vintage 1956 English Electric locomotive 801 who had also received a repaint back into her original livery of South Australian Railways 'Mustard Pot', after spending many years wearing Australian National Railways 'Green and Gold'. This train ran from the original Port Dock Goods Shed to Port Adelaide Junction and return throughout the weekend.
This video shows events which occurred on Saturday 13th of April, 2013. These events included the official speeches, video of the official launch run and on board footage taken from Onkaparinga on the first public run.
To all who were involved in the restoration of Onkaparinga, you are all to be congratulated on the outstanding job you have done in preserving another very important piece of South Australian Railways heritage and history.

Major Chris Roe - Anzac Day: no perfect answer ... some different perspectives on 25 April
Speaker’s Host: Steve Larkins
Major Christopher Roe graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in December 1987 and has served in Australian Army roles for all bar a few of the almost thirty years since then.
This includes some fifteen years as a Regular Army infantry officer with a variety of postings around the country, research and analysis roles with the Defence, Science and Technology Group and, since February 2014, the position of Manager of the Army Museum of South Australia at Keswick Barracks, Adelaide.
This last position has enabled him to match a passion for military history with his regular employment, one of all those all too rare but very valuable confluences where work and interest match closely.
Public speaking is an important function of the Museum, as is the Museum Schools Programme, both designed to assist the community and encourage visitation to the galleries.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them

This is the first time in several years that the ADF have actually done the flying display for the Cadets as the last few days have been done by the museum, who did the flypast during the parade this year. I have got a video of the Harvard doing the flypast, but due to privacy/security reasons I will not be uploading that video.
