Arthur's Seat - Mahabaleshwar

Arthur's Seat is the most popular point in Mahabaleshwar. Although, popularly it is called as Queen of the Points, original name of the point is Madhi Mahaal. Located at around 13 KM from Mahabaleshwar Market, Arthur's Seat point is at height of 1470m.

Arthur's Seat Point area has 6 points in total viz Arthur's Seat Point, Echo Point, Hunter Point, Tiger Spring Point, Window Point and Malcom Point.

Arthur's Seat is famous for floating of light objects. If you throw light things like cold drink cap in the valley, it comes up again due to air pressure.

This point is named Arthur Malet who lost his wife and 1 month old daughter in a tragic ferry accident in Savitri River. Arthur used to sit here and stare at the river.
From Arthur's Seat Point, one can see picturesque vista having Kokan on one side and Desh (Deccan) on the other. The stratification of rocks on southern side look like world famous Grand Canyon of Colorado. Beware of Monkeys here as they can grab your food or water (if kept unattended). Monkey grabbed our water bottle and made hole in the bottle to drink.

Named after Arthur Malet, the British actor, Arthur's seat was a discovery of British actor Arthur Mallet who had built a house for himself in Mahabaleshwar at the point. Views of Savitri River, Jor Valley and other adjoining valleys are truly exhilarating when seen from the top. To the left of the valley stand the panoramic views of Savitri river and its tributaries whereas to the left are the dense jungles of the Jor Valley. Just adjacent to these seat glimpses of Raigarh, Torna, Kangari, Mangalgadh and Chandragarh are hogged. Up at the Arthur's Seat a cement seat is constructed to aid the sight seeing for the tourists. The stratification of rocks arranged at the southern side of Arthur's Seat Point is compared to that of the Grand Canyon in Colorado. As said and experienced by many anything tossed from the point doesn't fall directly rather it floats in the air. The wind returns everything here. And yes, few mt before you to Arthur's Seat Point, on the way fall Tiger Spring waterfall famous its perennial source of water. This time I am sharing Day-4 MAHABALESHWAR...

Mahabaleshwar served as the summer capital of Bombay province during the British Raj. Panchganga Mandir in Old Mahabaleshwar is the source of five rivers: Koyna, Venna, Savitri, Gayatri and the Krishna River (the second longest river in India).

Arthur's Seat Point, located 12 km away from Mahabaleshwar market, is famous for floating of light objects. If you throw light things like cold drink cap in the valley, it comes up again due to air pressure. This point is named after Arthur Malet who lost his wife and 1-month-old daughter in a tragic ferry accident in Savitri River. Arthur used to sit here and stare at the river.

Venna lake is a man-made lake and a major tourist attraction in Mahabaleshwar. It was developed in the year 1842 by the Raja of Satara to cater to the water needs of Mahabaleshwar City. It is surrounded by lush greenery and especially during monsoon it is a sight to behold.
Timing: 8am to 8pm
Entry Fee: Nil
Boating Charges: Rs250 (30 Mins)/ Rs500 (1 hour) for Row Boat; Rs440 (1 hour) for Pedal Boat
P.S. Due to the high cross winds, be prepared to pedal long and hard; or consider a row boat to enjoy the beauty.

Mapro Gardens is a fruit processing unit at Gureghar, set on Mahabaleshwar-Panchgani road, where one can purchase all kinds of local produce such as strawberry jams, crush, etc. Mapro premises has a chocolate factory, a small nursery, a restaurant serving delectable food, children's play area and retail outlet selling mapro products.

Popularly called as Queen of the Points, Arthur Seat Point has been named after Sir Arthur Mallet who was the first man to build a house at this point. Arthur Seat is the only point that clearly shows the geological contrast between the Konkan and the Deccan territories.
