Tanzania Arusha / Moshi - things to do, Oasis Chemka/Kikuletwa hotsprings
One of the best days of my life. Chemka/Kikuletwa hotsprings (about 27°C): an oasis with a mineral blue hole spring about two hours from Arusha in the middle of nowhere - with a decent current and skin nibbling fishes that feed on your feet and legs when you stay or sit on the edge (but not when you swim); also good for snorkeling

Volunteer trip abroad to Arusha, Tanzania (Spring 2019)
Asante sana Tanzania for all the amazing memories and experiences! Coming home now is a reminder of the community that has raised me and the responsibility I hold to each one of those who have guided me here today. The most fulfilling and impactful friendships were made here and for that, I am forever grateful. Thank you to all those who have reminded me to reflect on things important to me, leading me to this experience and where I am today.
Arusha Safari Lodge
MOIVARO LODGES AND TENTED CAMPS
Moivaro Lodges and Tented Camps offer holiday accommodation in Tanzania, Zanzibar, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Morocco. They have a passion for the African continent, and they like to share that with you!
From the endless plains of the Serengeti to the snowy peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro, from the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar to the crowded outskirts of Nairobi, they know their way around, and they are happy to show you the way!
In their lodges they try to maintain the unique culture and style of the area. They support the community by working mostly with local staff, local suppliers, and local builders and building materials. When you are staying at one of their lodges or camps you will be assured to get a real African experience, without having to give up the comfort that you are used to back home.
ARUSHA AREA
Arusha is located in the North West of Tanzania, and is the nearest city to the big national parks of the Northern circuit, which has made Arusha into the “safari capital” of Tanzania. The town itself seems to be run down, crowded and dusty, but if you get to know it better you will find that there are some nice venues and there is plenty of culture and nature in the surrounding area to be discovered.
ARUSHA SAFARI LODGE
Welcome to Arusha Safari Lodge, a grand private residence set in lush expansive grounds complete with a swimming pool and an “Out of Africa” style restaurant for afternoon tea and sundowners. Arusha Safari Lodge is a small-secluded hideaway equipped to cater for discerning travellers and consists of 9 rooms in total, 7 spacious and comfortable guest cottages plus 2 spacious rooms in the main building.
The lodge is tucked away on volcanic hills with spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru, located only four kilometers outside of Arusha. The lodge goes to great lengths to ensure all guests are personally taken care of. All cottages are privately set with views of the swimming pool and lush gardens and furnished with Zanzibar beds.

Visiting Orphanages In Tanzania (Arusha & Moshi)
We wanted to donate to an orphanage but it is very hard to know which orphanage is real and needs it the most, so we took it upon ourselves to personally visit and see the living conditions of the children. As you can see from this short film, the standard of living can vary tremendously depending on which orphange you visit. These diffrences are very hard to see through a website. I would encourage anyone who can, to personally visit.
It was truly a life changing experience.
The orphanages we visited were:
- Happy Watoto Goodhope
- Upendo Orphanage (Moshi)
- Tuleeni Orphanage (Moshi)
- Neema Village (Arusha) *Off Camera*
Please donate to these orphanages links below:

Arusha is a typical small, dusty Sub-Saharan African town and that is part of its charm. Set at the foot of Mount Meru, it has bustling markets next to old, rather delapidated colonial buildings interspersed with more modern shops, all set on pot-holed roads filled with hooting taxis (daladala) and crazy drivers. It's hard not to feel the beat of Africa here.
First settled in the 1830's by the Maasai people, the town was conquered by the Germans in the early 1900's, who built the fort (Boma) which still stands. The British took the town during WW1 and it remained in their hands until independence was granted to the then Tanganyika in 1961. In July 2006, Arusha was declared a city by Tanzania. This chequered past adds to the mixture of architecture and culture still found here.
in the middle of Arusha, is the Clock Tower circle. Built in the 1950's, urban legend has it that this is the central meeting point for tourists and locals.
Getting Around
Speak to the Tanzania Tourist Board in Boma Road, or your hosts, to get a feel of where to go for safaris and where to avoid.
