Tokyo - Asagaya - Tranquility City
My first time ever in Japan and as usual with almost no advance preparation - what could go wrong?
I got off to a fantastic start in Tokyo based upon luck. (you have to have luck when you travel). My biggest worry in Tokyo was the cost of accommodations. In Southeast Asia the target for accommodations was around $35. $35 won't get you much in Tokyo (with one exception - more about that later). In the end I was thrilled to find on AGODA (internet hotel search) the Smile Hotel for $70. That was the good news, the bad news was that it was located in a part of TOKYO called ASAGAYA, a 20 minute train ride from downtown. In the end it turned out be an exceptional location for it brought me to a neighborhood like no other, perhaps anywhere in the world, How could such tranquility exit in the world's largest city within 20 minutes of downtown - see for yourself.

Shopping
The covered shopping street (shōtengai) Pearl Center, located on the south side of JR Asagaya station, is the largest in the area, though, smaller uncovered shōtengai also run to the north of the station. While Koenji to the east is known for its used clothing stores, most of the goods available are oriented toward household needs, though on the north side a number of used book and manga stores also do business.

Asagaya ~ Paper Mache Festival | patplustricia
After class, we dropped by Asagaya to explore the anime street that was CLOSED on Monday. Then we walked along the main street lined with festival foods, people dressed in yukatas, & awesome paper mache objects! Most of this vlog was looking at these paper mache objects (I haven't seen these anywhere in Tokyo & this festival was less busy compared to other festivals). Please subscribe for more, like, comment, & share! :)
