CHURCH OF THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD, PLOVDIV
The Church of the Holy Mother of God (Bulgarian: Църква Света Богородица) is a Bulgarian National Revival church in Bulgaria's second largest city Plovdiv. The church is situated in the Old town of Plovdiv on one of the city's seven hills, Nebet Tepe. A small church existed on that place since the 9th century. The church was renovated in 1186 by the bishop of Plovdiv Constantine Pantehi and it became part of a monastery. Both the church and the monastery were destroyed when the Ottoman Turks conquered the city in 1371 during the course of the Bulgarian-Ottoman Wars. The current edifice was constructed in 1844 as the main church of the city. It was a large three-nave pseudo-basilica was built by craftsmen from Bratsigovo and the first ktitors were wealthy merchants from the town of Koprivshtitsa. The iconostasis was made by carvers from Bulgarian School of Debar. Most of the church's icons were created by the painter Nikola of Odrin.
Bulgarian monastery - Sokolski monastery
Sokolski Monastery is located on the Balkan mountain near the town of Gabrovo and historical-ethnographic complex Etara. Etara is also called the City of the Masters or the City of Craftsmen.
Before the appearance of the monastery in 1834, a small church was built here. During forty years, new buildings have appeared here. Thus there was the monastery of the Assumption of the Virgin.
In the twilight of the Ottoman Empire at the monastery often stayed Bulgarian partisans who fought against the Turks.
During the Russian-Turkish war, the monastery was used as hospital.
It was originally built as a mens monastery but in 1959 it was turned into a convent.

THE BACHKOVO MONASTERY,BULGARIA
The Bachkovo Monastery Assumption of the Virgin is located in the southern part of the village Bachkovo, 10 kilometers south of Asenovgrad. The monastery was founded in 1083 by the Georgian Gregoriy Bakuriani, who donated the land. For a long time the monastery was Georgian. The two-story ossuary some 400 meters from the monastery was built during the monastery's earliest days.
At the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century, The Holy Archangels Church was built, for services during the winter months. It was attached to the terrace on the second floor of the west wing where the monks had their cells. It is thought that after the fall of Bulgaria to the Ottomans at the end of the 14th century, Eftimiy, Bulgaria's last patriarch, was exiled to the Bachkovo Monastery.
Construction on the new monastery began at the end of the 16th century, most likely with the eastern wing and the fortified main entrance. In 1601, the southern wing was rebuilt, where the refectory now stands, with its spacious dining area and marble table. Visitors will note that the year of the table's construction is carved on it. In 1864, a mural was painted on the northern wall of the dining hall, The Presentation of the Miraculous Icon. In 1604, The Assumption of the Virgin Cathedral was constructed, which has three naves, an apse, a narthex, and a cupola.
Etropole Monastery. West-central Bulgaria
Etropole Monastery, is in west-central Bulgaria. Etropole is 86km from Sofia centre, 242km from Bansko and 383km from Varna airport.
The monastery was founded in the 12th or 13th century, its heyday being from the 16th to the 18th century. It was the dominant literary centre of Ottoman-ruled northern Bulgaria.
The closest inhabited place is the village of Ribaritsa, which is 4 kilometres away. The monastery lies among maple woodlands at the foot of the Balkan Mountains
The monastery was originally founded during the Second Bulgarian Empire, either in the 12th or 13th century. According to a stone inscription reportedly placed into the foundations of the church, the exact year of its foundation is 1158, during the Byzantine rule of Bulgaria. The Etropole Monastery reached its apogee between the 16th and 18th centuries, when it emerged as the most important literary and cultural centre of the northern Bulgarian lands under Ottoman rule, with its own scriptoria and a calligraphic school with a characteristic style. Under abbots Anthony, Zachary and Raphael, who were in charge of the monastery from the 1620s to the 1640s, the Etropole Literary School was a major centre of production for chiefly religious manuscripts. Its influence spread throughout the Balkans to other schools of the time. Particularly active scribes of this period were the priest Valcho, hieromonk Daniel, John the Grammarian and Basil of Sofia. Thanks to the successful literary efforts of its community, the monastery was able to sustain itself through the sale of manuscripts, in addition to donations from wealthy locals.
In the late 19th century, during the last decades of the Ottoman rule of Bulgaria, Elephant the time of Bulgaria's struggle for independence, the monastery provided shelter to national hero Vasil Levski and other anti-Ottoman revolutionaries. Levski even had a hiding place specially built for himself at the monastery.
The monastery's present main church is a large cruciform three-naved church that features five hexagon-shaped turret domes. The church was constructed in 1858 or 1859, though its exterior decoration was not finished until 1860 and its current set of interior frescoes were only painted from 1896 to 1907. In addition to the main church. The chapels are each dedicated to Saint John the Baptist and Saints Cosmas and Damian. Among the valuable items in possession of the monastery are two 15th-century crosses with rich silver decoration and a gold-plated ossuary. The oldest icon from the Etropole Monastery is a rendition of the Holy Trinity of the Old Testament from 1598 painted by the teacher Nedyalko from Lovech.
In the woods in the vicinity of the monastery are the Varovitets Waterfall, 15 m high, and its source, named karst spring.

Cathedral of the Assumption of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary - Videoguide
Pope John Paul II greets Benevento with high solemnity: ‘Town of dukes and lords, with its monuments, it reminds us of its past civil and prestigious value, that made it stand out over the centuries. Its name indicates a good wish (it means good wind) and was attributed by pagan Rome to replace the previous name, Maleventum (meaning bad wind). However, its true strength came from new Rome, the Christian one, that transmitted the good news of the Gospel’.
Benevento has a glorious memory thanks to its noble artistic and religious heritage, an admirable fusion of the Samnite, Roman and Germanic civilizations. It is a proof of social devotion, a mix of art, faith and history. Tourists are welcomed by the so-called Rocca dei Rettori, the administrative seat of the papal governors.
The cathedral is dedicated to the Most Holy Mary of Assumption and is full of precious spirituality. It is the first temple to witness the arrival of Christianity in the town and, among its bishops, it is proud for having had St. Januarius, a saint honored by all the inhabitants of Benevento. Here the remains of Apostle St. Bartholomew are worshipped. They were brought here by Lombard Prince Sicardo when the population was converted to Christianity by St. Barbatus.
The battles, mythological characters, knights and amazing animals that you can see in St. Sophie’s cloister represent man’s knowledge, the frenzies of our fears and hopes, and the passing of time is visible in the pictures of agricultural works.
Each decoration that links the arches and coloumns, called pulvinus, is the essence of human knowledge concerning the earthly and the divine: they are in contrast with the peace and silence of the cloister and celebrate a perennial invitation to recollection. The monks, closed within the monastery walls, contemplated the Creation to understand the universal mystery.
The cloister is a protection and salvation monument in these places, where prince Arechi put its capital and continuous battles claimed many lives.
