In the early eighteenth century, shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune planted many cherry trees in the area and opened up the land for the enjoyment of the Edokko or citizens of Tokyo.The park was formally established, alongside Ueno Park, Shiba Park, Asakusa Park, and Fukagawa Park, in 1873 by the Dajō-kan, as Japan's first public parks. In 1998, three museums were opened inside the park, designed by AXS Satow: the Kita City Asukayama Museum (北区飛鳥山博物館), the Shibusawa Memorial Museum (渋沢史料館), and the Paper Museum (紙の博物館).

Asukayama Park is located near JR Ohji Station in Tokyo. It is very famous as a good place for cherry blossom viewing. But even in summer it serves as a kind of oasis in Tokyo with lots of greenery. It should not be forgotten that there are some wonderful facilities and important cultural assets here. It's only a small hill but it offers us visitors even a mini-cable car.

Hydrangea flowers at Asukayama Park (飛鳥山のあじさい)

In Japan, Hydrangea (called ajisai in Japanese) is a flower that is associated with the rainy season before the before the summer arrives.
There's a narrow passageway along Asukayama Park (in Oji, Tokyo; a park that's actually famous for cherry blossoms in the spring) that is lined with Ajisai of many varieties. It's a well-known spot to see such flowers, but doesn't attract *that* many people, and it was rainy this day, so there were even fewer people.
The flowers are located near the tracks for 3 rail lines and a Shinkansen bullet train, so I hope you enjoy the juxtaposition of the loud and busy trains and the quiet and calm of the ajisai.
