WE HAD TO HITCHHIKE TO PAI // MOTORBIKE RENTAL FAIL // CHIANG MAI TO PAI // THAILAND TRAVEL VLOG
On the 1st of November this year we checked out from our studio apartment in Mai, where we had stayed for the last month, and headed over to Aya Service to rent a motorbike and drive the 130 kilometres and 762 curves to Pai, just northwest of Chiang Mai. It didn't work out as we'd planned and a couple of hours later we found ourselves trying to hitch a ride out of Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai to Pai Scooter Trip
There is no better way to put it than.... this was a wild ride! 726 mountain turns, and by mountain turns I mean full out cliff drop u-(off the mountain) turns with trucks flying from the opposing direction that you are yet to see.
This is our scooter adventure from Chiang Mai to Pai in Northern Thailand. We rented scooters from Aya Services in Chiang Mai, brought our bags to the Service and dropped them off. Our bags were brought to Pai on one of the tourist buses, well we got to ride! We brought day packs with our important values, and warm clothes as the mountains cold pockets are unbelievably chilly and you will only understand us when you've tried this trip for yourselves!
We encountered 3 deaths, and many injured tourists on our way only making our journey that much more cautious. Be ready for a trip like this, do not bother trying to learn how to ride a scooter from Chiang Mai to Pai unless you are quite experienced. The truck drivers hog the road, and we are lucky that we made it to the other side!
A friend of ours left a couple hours later, (with others!) and got in a wreck with a truck on one of the mountains bends. Her bike was split in half, the half tucked under the truck had her purse that was around her body.... you would never believe that all she had was raspberry scuffs by the photos and damage to the bike. Be CAREFUL.
Also the roads from Chiang Mai to Pai are slowly but steadily being paved..... which means before we know it Pai will no longer be the grand oasis it once was as the tourism in Thailand is booming. Get there!

We had a flight to catch from Chiang Mai to Phuket at around 10:45 PM. Drove down from Pai and reached Chiang Mai at around 6 PM.
Selwin used the Backpack transport to destination service by Aya Bike Rental in Chiang Mai / Pai in Thailand.
They lost his backpack. Later, they found it still sitting in Pai.
But the question is would it make it in time to catch the flight that night?
