Lamanai Mayan Ruins & River Tour, Belize ~ Carnival Breeze
We wanted to visit some Mayan Ruins while in Belize and chose to book the Lamanai Mayan Ruins & River Boat Safari through Carnival. The tour was great and I highly recommend this excursion but the phrasing used in the description was a bit misleading.
Here is Carnival's description of this excursion on their web site:
Your adventure will begin when you hop aboard a comfortable air-conditioned bus for a one hour drive through the scenic Belize River Valley. You will pass through the historic villages, which were the original settlements of the colony of British Honduras; all of which form the Belize River Valley, on the way to Ayinha Eco Park. You will then board a riverboat for a 30 minute cruise of the New River Lagoon, with its spectacular rainforest teeming with exotic birds, deer and iguanas, mangroves and orchids. Experience the thrill of gliding along the sparkling New River Lagoon, while viewing the spectacular rain forest. This includes exotic animals and birds en route to Lamanai (from Lama’anayin, “submerged crocodile” in Yucatec Maya), once the largest Mayan ceremonial site in Meso-America and occupied as early as 1500 B.C.
We had an amazing time and I recommend seeing any of the Mayan Ruins if you are heading to Belize. Ayinha Eco Park is beautiful and they have taken great care with their landscaping but this is an all day excursion so we didn't spend much time there.
If you would like to read what is stated on the excursion web site and the reality of the trip, check out my post about our adventure here:

Lamanai Maya Ruins and New River Boat Ride
Lamanai is one of many Maya ruins that can be found in Belize. It's very hard to reach on land, and therefore taking a boat ride down New River is the best option for getting there. Some of the temples in Lamanai include the Mask Temple, the Jaguar Temple, and the High Temple

Land Feud in Lemonal; ComPol’s Wife Takes on Relatives for Choice Property
For the latest news across Belize, visit:
Hell broke loose in the village of Lemonal, Belize District, early this morning between relatives over a problem that had been brewing for some time. It has to do with a prime parcel of land claimed by feuding families. Sharon Mae Whylie, the wife of the Commissioner of Police, says she owns the land in question and has title to prove it. But village resident and retired police officer, Tony Anthony, is also claiming the land saying he has invested in it and has been working part of the parcel for years. Today, the police were called to the village as the dispute escalated when Whylie’s surveyor began to work on the land Anthony claims. News Five’s Isani Cayetano spoke to all sides and has the following report.

Rebuild St. Luke's Church in Lemonal Village, Belize
Please Donate:
The inspiration for St. Luke’s begins with the birth of my Grandmother in-law, Lucy Amanda Banner “Ma Lucy” was born November 19, 1919… in the heart of Lemonal Village, Belize. She was a mother to 16 children that are just like You and I hardworking and loving people who put Jesus and family first. Ma Lucy has 74 grandchildren, 189 great grandchildren & 29 great-great grandchildren. They carry on her legacy of generosity and love for Christ and family. Ma Lucy left this earth to join Christ on January 27th, 2018. I got to understand her legacy while attending her funeral in Lemonal Village. Her generosity and love for Christ was often mentioned in her eulogy- “she surrounded herself in faith. She attended church services regularly. She believed strongly that each parishioner should contribute generously to the development of the church. She gave her offering constantly… when the priest came she gave everything. She liked to sit with her hand in her pocket. I asked Auntie Lucy, why do you constantly have your hand in your pockets?” her response….checking if my offering for father is still in there” Hearing of her generosity was an inspiration in itself… I know how little money this village has. There are less than a handful of vehicles…almost no work for the villagers. People ride a bus to schools or jobs…hundreds came on buses to the funeral. Village life is not easy but they don’t complain, they march on, and on They are poor in money but rich in faith, family and love. However, one thing I learned from this experience is my inspiration for this letter. As Rev. George Banner spoke during the Eulogy, he informed us why the service was under tents; the reason why my grandmother was temporarily placed under a thatch roof of a hut by the river. The reason is, St. Luke’s Church which sat next to Ma Lucy’s home since 1958 collapsed. He pointed to the debris left behind and the tent that is now used as the church. Under blue tarps sit an altar, pews, images of Jesus… breaking down from the harsh weather The original bell sits at the entrance reminding us that Jesus has a home in this village. Once strong, built by man, and filled with Christ… St. Luke’s is now a tent! Ma Lucy wants us to know…. and would want us to rebuild it. My Uncle Rev. Constancio Perez on the importance of the churches construction- “This church has been here over a hundred years and serves the community as its major place of worship. Bishop Wright placed myself in charge… to construct a new church for our dedicated worshippers. First we erected a tent under which we have been conducting services for over two years… with the church committee and faithful… we have raised just under $7,500 US While we do not yet have the funds to fully construct the church we believe in what Jesus said: “Seek and Ye shall find”…this community truly needs a place to worship they believe… as we do…God answers prayers! Therefore, we seek your help so our dreams can be a reality” The priests continually struggle to provide sacramental services in its temporary state. Sunday Mass is a challenge in pouring rain or sweating under the hot Belizean sun; The regular attendance at mass has dropped by 50% and there is no other Church accessible. As I listened…I heard Christ speak to me. Realizing this is too much to ask any one family, I felt Called to ask Christs Family. The purpose of this letter is to seek your help in building a new St. Luke’s Church. Our goal‘s to raise $65,000 US to cover all costs of the project. The church will hold 80 people and will be about 2000sq ft. It includes a vestibule, office, bathroom and mission room. In addition, a road will be made to the church doors so funerals can properly transport and place in a proper setting the caskets of our deceased We have an online fundraising campaign set up directly with Rev Bishop Wright at the Anglican Diocese of Belize to collect donations and distribute payments for the construction through Rev. Constancio Perez in Lemonal. Friends… I have seen the impact this church and Jesus’s teachings have had on this community. this church is the light that breaks through the darkness of this village… and the people of this village need a permanent home for the Christ they follow. Christians, I ask you to answer this call; join me in rebuilding St. Luke’s Church For more information or questions contact matt@hiddencreekcampground.com

There was a second fire on Sunday. It happened in village of Lemonal, also in the Belize District. The fire broke out at around three-thirty p.m. when a family of six was inside the house.
