Milan and Lake Como
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide | No trip to Italy is complete without Milan and Lake Como. In Milan we'll take a peek at Italy's highest fashion, fanciest delis, grandest cemetery, and greatest opera house...not to mention Leonardo's Last Supper. Then we'll cruise along Lake Como, settling down in the lakeside village of Varenna...classic honeymoon country, where Italy meets the Alps.

Milan: Duomo, Armani Hotel, 10 Corso Como, Arch of Peace & More
I spent 2 days in Milan, Italy and these were the things to do:
Day 1:
Took the metro to drop off my bag at BagBnB.
Visited Duomo and the Arch of Peace.
Went to Armani Hotel/Lounge for dinner following by the Il Bar/Rooftop which had beautiful views of the Duomo.
Day 2: Went to get some breakfast on the way to Quadrilatero de la Moda, shopped in the area and visited Aqua di Parma store where I chose the perfume based on different questions. In the afternoon I went to 10 Corso Como and hung out at the Piazza Gae Aulenti, checking out Bosco Verticale - Vertical Forest.

Milan Luxurious Excelsior Hotel Gallia - Breakfast Buffet - Signature Suite- Piazza Del Duomo
Milan in March was drenched in cold rainfall and all gray sky but that doesn't diminish the fact it's such a great city and the Excelsior Hotel Gallia a charming luxurious place to stay.
Sampling the incredible Milano pizza in the heart of Piazza del Duomo has to be the most amazing part of my trip.
You'll love the beautiful voice of the singer outside Milan Cathedral.
Enjoy :)

1) Instead of paying the Cathedrals entrance and going up the many steps to the viewing spot, go to the Rinascente rooftop and buy yourself a glass of wine.
You'll first have to go through the Rinascente mall, pass the several shops and boutiques, go to the very last floor where you'll find a cafeteria. Opposite to it there is a terrace! You're welcome!
We paid 4.5 Euros for a cecchi red wine (which is my favorite wine by the way) and they brought us chips, olives, peanuts and mini sandwiches!
2) The Cathedral Duomo di Milano was originally created in the 14th century but took over 600 years to build. You can visit the rooftop of the Cathedral for 10 Euros and enjoy the spectacular views and architecture from above. It's the fourth largest church in the world.
3) The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele the second, is Italy's oldest active shopping mall and a major landmark of Milan. The Galleria is named after Vittorio Emanuele the second, the first king of the Kingdom of Italy. Completed in 1867.
4) Trattoria S. Filippo Neri: With ONLY 40 Euros 3 people eat first and second course, a side dish, a desert and wine. That's 13 euros per person! That's a crazy price for Milan! You can join the folk outside playing cards! Super cool environment you can't get anywhere else!
5) La Scala is an opera house in Milan. Built in 1778 it's regarded as one of the leading opera and ballet theatres in the world.
Greatest artists and finest singers from around the world come here.
6) Public Transport: we recommend buying an option that nobody talks about and its called Settimanale 2x6:
it costs 10€ and it allows you to travel twice per day for a total lenght of 90 minutes each ride.
7) Rent a bike: All you do is register online, select the daily package (4.5 euros) or weekly package (9 euros) and after you've paid, you get a username, password and unlock your bike. DONE!

1) Lake Como, the town of Bellagio and Secret spots with zero tourists!
2) Famous Villa del Balbianello where James Bond and Star Wars was filmed
One place we recommend is the Villa del Balbianello in the Lenno town.
Why is this Villa so famous? Hollywood!
Villa del Balbianello is one of most beautiful destination wedding venues we've ever visited. It is in the Lake Como surrounded by amazing mountains and luxury villas.
One of the scenes of James Bond Casino Royale was filmed at this place and so was Star Wars Episode II the Attack of the Clones.
In Bellagio try:
1) Taking this signature picture of Bellagio once you reach Aperitivo Et Al. This is the place we recommend for that perfect picture.
2) Taking a coffee at Bar Sport in the main square next to the San Giacomo Church. Alternatively take an Aperol Spritz if the weather is hot!
3) We recommend antichi sapori Bistrot. This place has pizza for 7 euros.
4) Walk to The punta spartivento Observation Deck and witness the dramatic views and relaxing tranquility this beautiful lake offers.
5) Visit our secret spot for the best sunsets ever to be seen. And it's zero tourists guaranteed!

MILAN: Duomo rooftop and all the pastries!
December 21st, 2016 (*typo in vlog)
Milan was definitely a city of luxuries and indulgences. We stopped here for a day on the way back to the London flat, and although it was a short time to spend in the city, we definitely saw and ate our money's worth!
Climbing to the top of the Duomo was an unforgettable experience, and although we had very little to spend, we managed to stuff ourselves with delicious Italian pastries and treats.

Milan Duomo Roof Walking Tour
Milan Cathedral Rooftop Tours.,
Buy a ticket and way you go up, yes you can choose to walk or take the lifts.
Lake Como ~ Ferry Hopping
From Varenna we ferried to the other mid-lake towns of Bellagio, Menagio, and Tremezzo where we walked around Villa Carlotta. One day, we cruised to the town of Como, well worth the day-long excursion to see the silk museum, duomo, and Volta Temple - a museum dedicated to the electric battery inventor Allesandro Volta. See another video on Como to be posted soon. Enjoy the cruise!
Milan Duomo Rooftop Tour
Read below for details and links...
Quick tour of the rooftop of the Duomo aka Milan Cathedral in Milan, Italy. This structure is insane and took ~600 years to build in it's incredible Gothic style. You can take tours of the rooftop so that is exactly what I did!
It costs like ~15E if you want to take the elevator up and less if you want to walk. That said, the line to climb the stairs is huge so if you're not short on cash just take the elevator like I did. That said, I did take the stairs down and it wasn't as fun as I would have imagined.
Don't forget to also go inside the Duomo as it's also a sight to be seen. Seriously, this is a one of a kind building and if you're in Milan, you should really look into it...

TOP Things to EAT, SEE and DO in Milan - Italy Travel Guide!
If you are planning a visit to Milan in Italy, then don't forget to visit these 5 places for amazing foods, experiences and people!
Introduction:
Hey everybody and welcome back to another episode of Triple P where we explore people, places and palates. So today guys I am in the fashion capital of the world, where else than Milan in Italy, and I am going to be taking you guys through the 5 things that you have to eat and see on a day trip to this fantastic place. So let’s go!
Number 1: The Milan Cathedral “Duomo”
This iconic structure is extremely special! It is the second largest church in Italy after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and the third largest catholic church in the world. Not only that it also has an impressive number of sculpted statues and spires built onto this building - guess how many? 3159! It is not wonder that it took over six centuries to complete. It is definitely worth not only checking the altars inside, but to also make your way onto the roof for amazing views across the city.
Number 2: Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
Right next to the cathedral you have Italy's oldest luxury shopping mall and a major landmark of Milan, named after the first king of Italy. The beauty of its arched dome, its glass and iron roof as well as its spectacular mosaics will absolutely mesmerise you. It is here that you will find some of Milan’s legends such as The Camparino which gave birth to the tradition of the aperitif, or even the famous Savini restaurant-cafe, where you can savour the traditional Risotto Milanese as well as their pistachio and hazelnut gelatos. Take a break from your shopping at Gucci or Prada, and savour Savini’s 150 year old delights.
Number 3: The Sforzesco Castle and Park Sempione
This castle has had a rich history and surprisingly has been transformed for a plethora of purposes. It originally started of as a Visconti fortress, but later turned into a stunning palace ruled by the Sforza dynasty. Did you know that it was during this time that it was decorated by artistic legends such as Leonardo da Vinci! It then went on to become a military complex and finally in the early 20th century was turned it into the headquarters for Milan’s Civic Museums. In between this castle as well as the “Arch of Peace” lies the beloved Park Sempione, the largest park in Milan and a favourite amongst the locals.
Number 4: Panzerotti at Luini
Since 1888, the shop Luini has become a household name and a local’s delight. Everyone is making a bee-line for these pillowy fried dough parcels from heaven for less than 3 euros! You can get it with various different fillings including the original tomato and mozzarella, the classic ricotta and spinach or even the delicious salami. There are tons of flavours to chose from! Unfortunately I was not able to take any photos or videos inside the shop due to their policy. Their guard informed me that they wanted to keep the famous recipe a secret. Exclusive eh?
Number 5: The Navigli District
If you are looking for a great hang out spot that is charming, vibrant and filled with life than head on over to the Navigli area. Enjoy the happening night life at the restaurants and bars, or just visit some of the cozy shops and book stores right by the canal. If you are looking for something more unique, then visit the “smallest bar in the world” called “Backdoor 43”, a tiny 4 square meter place in the wall cocktail bar that you may just easily miss. Through a hatch you’ll be greeted by a barman wearing a V for Vendetta mask and the rest of the experience, I won’t give away. You’ll just need to go there to find out for yourself!
Ending:
Alright everybody that takes us to the end of the video. I really hope that you learnt something new and that you are planning your next trip to Milan very soon. Please click on the LIKE and the SUBSCRIBE buttons below so that you can continue on this travel journey with me and I will see you guys next time. Arrivederci!
Firenze Card - Guide to visiting the Dome (Cupola) of the Duomo in Florence
How to: use Firenze Card to visit the Duomo Cupola (the Dome) in Florence. Admission included with Firenze Card, however, reservations are required to book date and time.
--------------------------------------------
If you obtained a Firenze Card to visits the museums in Florence, you'll need to obtain a special reservation to visit the Cupola of the Duomo. This reservation is obtained at the Duomo Museums ticket office.
When entering the Piazza San Giovani you'll see the baptistry on your right, the Duomo in front of you and then on your left, 7 San Giovani.
Enter here for the Duomo museums, passing through the courtyard with the automated machines and into the rear ticket office. At the back of the ticket office is the Firenze Card priority line. At the counter, you will present your Firenze card and you will be provided with printed tickets allowing access to the Duomo museums. Return to the main court yard to select a date and time for your visit to the cupola.
Using the machines, select the skip the line options from the main menu.
At this point, you will scan your tickets with the bar code facing up. As each ticket is recognized it will be displayed on the screen. You can see the tickets being displayed on the screen, here. Touch the next button.
Touch the date button next to the Dome item on the screen and then select a date you would like to visit, touch Set, then set a time. Touch Set when complete.
Confirm your settings and touch next.
Confirm again and touch next.
The machine will print a receipt with confirmation of date and time for visiting the cupola. You will need both your tickets and your receipt to enter the cupola so keep them safe until your scheduled date and time.
Ten minutes prior to your schedule date and time, line up to the door marked cupola on the left side of the Duomo.
Upon entering the Duomo, you'll need your tickets to pass through the turnstile. Simply scan your tickets with the bar code facing up on the scanner and the turnstile will permit you through.
There are approximately 450 steps up to the top of the cupola. It is quite a climb but there are various stop along the way where you can rest. You'll enter the inner dome where you can view the artwork up close.
The passageways can be quite narrow and steep. If you are claustrophobic you may not want to make the climb.
Once you reach the top of the cupola, the platform is about 8 feet wide and circles the entire circumference of the dome.
As some of the passageways are used for both reaching the top of the dome and exiting the dome, the best time to visit is the last scheduled time of the day. This will allow for more time at the top of the cupola as well as a less crowded decent.
When you exit, you will be on the other side of the Duomo.
