Badan Warisan Malaysia + Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman Tour
In 1995, Badan Warisan Malaysia restored and adapted a 1925 colonial bungalow at No. 2 Jalan Stonor into a Heritage Center. This building has seen many owners and uses throughout the seventy years that has passed since its construction.
The Rumah Penghulu Abu Seman is one of the oldest surviving traditional Malay houses. Built in stages between 1910 and the early 1930s, it was owned by the local headman of Mukim Bagan Samak, Bandar Baharu, Kedah. Originally located in Kampung Sungai Kechil, a small village in the northern part of Peninsula Malaysia, it was rescued, relocated and restored (1996-1997) by Badan Warisan Malaysia.
Today, it stands as one of the finest remaining examples of Malay vernacular architecture. Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur with its many high rise buildings, the Rumah Penghulu is surrounded by a traditional herb & heritage garden which has over 50 species of trees & plants of environmental, cultural & historic interest to Malaysians.

Kuala Lumpur is the famous city of Malaysia. The city is famous as the bench of the Parliament of Malaysia. Over 1.6 million people live there as per the records of 2012. The whole city covers 243 km2 areas. The urban and metropolitan area of the city is known as Greater Kuala Lumpur or the Klang Valley. Greater Kuala Lumpur has grown very fast in terms of economy and population over the years. Before the establishment of the judicial and executive branches of the federal government of Malaysia in Putrajaya, the home of the branches was Kuala Lumpur till the year 1999. But still there are some sections of the federal government which hasn’t moved from the city of Kuala Lumpur. The king of Malaysia- ‘Istana Negara’ found the city very charming and thus his permanent residence is in the city of Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur is not only the capital city but also a key city of Malaysia. That’s why the city is the economic, cultural and financial centre of Malaysia. The city is known as the alpha world city by people.

Foreign Policy’s 2010 Global Cities Index rated the city at the 48th position among the global cities of the world. Also in the 2thinknow Innovation Cities Index, the city was at 67th rank in terms of social and economic innovation in the year 2010. There are three Malaysian Federal Territories and Kuala Lumpur is among the three, defined under their borders. The city is situated on the western foots of the Peninsular Malaysia. Over the years many national and international cultural, sporting and political events were held and hosted in Kuala Lumpur. The Formula One Grand Prix and the Common Wealth Games of the year 1998 were hosted by Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lumpur is the home of many world famous buildings including the Petronas Twin Towers which are the tallest twin buildings around the world. The Petronas Twin Towers symbolises Malaysia’s futuristic development.

Warisan Lab Kuala Lumpur
Warisan Lab was a 2-day event that featured workshops, craft demonstrations and talks by industry experts in arts and media. A big draw to this event is the Rumah Penghulu was presented to the public as a visual-lab, where media technology was used to explore new ways to appreciate the exhibits and Malay traditional architecture. This project was initiated by Badan Warisan Malaysia in collaboration with DAM Interactive.
