THIS IS AZERBAIJAN? | Baku Travel Vlog
We only had one day to spend in Baku, Azerbaijan, and we loved this beautiful city! We couldn't believe how big and modern it was. Reminds us of Dubai! Highlights of this travel vlog include a huge delicious traditional Azerbaijani lunch in an underground restaurant, getting lost in the Baku Old City, and riding a funicular to the top of the mountain to enjoy the sunset over the city. We also tried our first Turkish ice cream experience!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Baku | Day 1 | Travel 2019 | Azerbaijan
Day 1: #Baku
Our flight from Dubai @ 08:10 in the morning and landed in Baku @ 11:00. The flight took almost 3 hours - UAE and #Azerbaijan have the same timezone.
Supposedly, this trip is solo ???? (I booked a ticket week before my flight) but this friend of mine loves to go too so Mary booked her ticket the night before the flight. lol
When we reached Baku, we lost our way going to our hostel. It's a long story why! But really appreciate the help of some #Azerbaijani locals and policemen at subway stations. Very few can speak English but we all managed to understand. Thank you so much. ♥

Gobustan & Mud Volcanoes ???????? | Day trip from Baku
During my visit to the capital of Azerbaijan, I also took a day trip around Absheron peninsula to some of the nearby attractions.
I decided to book an organized group tour, as public transport outside of Baku appears to be rather inconvenient. Be advised that prices and packages may vary substantially.
I ended up paying 50 manat, around 25 euros, but I was quoted up to 130 manat, so shop around when you are in town!
The first stop was Gobustan National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ancient petroglyphs, or rock carvings, which depict animals, humans, chasing scenes, ritual dances and other things. Most of the rock carvings are estimated to be 5,000-20,000 years old. There is also a museum showcasing the history of the region and some exhibits.
My next stop took me to the nearby mud volcanoes, which are located on a nearby hill which can only be accessed by 4x4 vehicles. The 15 minute ride to the top was quite a bumpy experience.
Azerbaijan is home to around 300 of the world's estimated 700 mud volcanoes. They are not actual volcanoes, as there is no lava involved, but rather formed by the eruption of mud from deep below the Earth's surface.
Azerbaijan is often called The Land of Fire because of its seemingly endless reserve of natural gas. In some places, there are flames that keep on burning for decades or even longer.
One of those places is the Ateshgah Fire Temple, just east of Baku. For many centuries, this site was the holy place for Zoroastrians, a fire worshipping religion and also for Hindus.
The present structure dates from the 17th century and was built around a flame that was thought to be eternal, but went out in the mid-19th-century. At that time, pilgrims interpreted this as punishment by the gods so the site was abandoned and neglected. Some decades ago, the temple was renovated and turned into a museum for tourists, including an artificial flame.
However, there is one place outside of Baku where you can still see a natural gas fire in action. Yanar dag, meaning Burning Mountain, has been on fire since the 1950s and the flame never went out.
Coming back to Baku in the late afternoon, I had the chance to take pictures of the Heydar Aliyev Center, an arts museum and conference center designed by Zaha Hadid. Its distinctive architecture made this building the symbol of modern Baku.
On the whole, this was perhaps not the most spectacular day trip I've ever made, but it was still interesting to spend some hours outside of Baku and broaden my understanding of the history and culture of Azerbaijan.

Peshawar To Baku (Azerbaijan) Part 15 | Baku City (Azerbaijan) 8 | First Travel Vlog
A Tourist's Guide to Baku, Azerbaijan 2018
From Tbilisi we fly into Baku, located along the Caspian Sea. Staying the Fairmont 'Flame' Tower Hotel affords us an excellent view of the long sweeping city coastline.
In the city, we see the giant flag, walk past the carpet museum, see the twists and turns of the old medieval walled town, which included the magnificent Maiden Tower. We catch a metro to the Heydar Aliyev Centre, and then walk back, stopping off at the sprawling central market.
All in all, Baku is a pleasing mix of new and old, mixing glitzy modern skyscrapers with ottoman architecture.

BAKU IN 4 DAYS || Solo Travel in AZERBAIJAN ????
I booked a four-nights trip via Holiday Factory.
**What's good about booking a trip with them?
-easy for first time female solo travelers
-a representative will meet you at the airport to transfer you to your hotel
-they give information about the country, whilst on your way to your hotel
-they also offer tours, but I prefer not to book and just did my own DIY city tour.
**I booked a free walking tour
-you can visit freetour.com and put in the place where you will be and you'll see a lot of free walking tour options.
-after you booked, you'll receive an email confirmation and details as to where you will need to meet them up
**The rest of the days are just on my own, went back to the Old City and wander.
I booked a free walking tour, which is cheaper than booking from the company ;)
DM me with any of your questions :)
BAKU - THE CAPITAL OF AZERBAIJAN
Hello Guys,
Click here to support my channel:
In this video, I have shared my experience of the capital city of Azerbaijan Baku . Baku is entirely different from the rest of Azerbaijan, the rest of Azerbaijan looks closer to Asia and Baku looks closer to Europe.
Baku, also known as Baky or Bakı, is the largest city in the Caucasus and the capital of Azerbaijan. Baku is on the coast of the Caspian Sea on the southern tip of the Absheron Peninsula. There are three major divisions in Baku: İçəri Şəhər (the ancient city), the Soviet-built downtown, and the newest part of the town. The population as of January 2012 was 3,202,300.
Things to do in Baku, Azerbaijan
Atashgah Fire Temple. You can take the Baku Electric train from the Baku train station to Suraxani station for 10 qapiks. (No train service any longer.) Simply walk through the station to the outdoor platforms where a schedule is posted. You can also take Marshrutka 191 from Qara Qarayev metro station or bus number 184 from Azizbeyov metro station. You can pay on board or buy a ticket from a kiosk on the platform. From Suraxani station walk about 100 m (330 ft), and you can arrive at the temple. Children 0.20AZN, student 0.40AZN, adult 2AZN. If you want to take pictures, it costs 2AZN in addition to admission.
Yanar Dagh, (Take bus 217 from Koroglu metro station. The last stop is Yanar Dagh(March 2014)). Yanar Dagh is a mountain that has been continuously on fire for one thousand years. The natural gas vents ensure that hot flames roar out of the sides of this hill even when it rains. 2AZN.
Qala, (Take bus 101 or 150 from Koroglu metro station. Leave the bus when you see a new build fortress tower(~30Min) Walk down the street for 1km(April 2014)). Qala has an open-air Archeological and Ethnographic Museum. You can also find some camels, sheep and rabbits in the Museum. Next to it is a new build fortress from which you have a beautiful view of the city. 6AZN.
Artem Island, (Take bus 150 from Koroglu metro station. Goes directly to Artem Island (April 2014)). Artem Island was the first place for oil exploration in Azerbaijan. The island is not the most beautiful but worth a day trip. Hike up the lighthouse and walk over to the island and enjoy the southern tip first before you go off wandering around Artem city. In the side streets, you can find several tea houses, shops and other places.
